- There is a new prefab home builder looking at the USA for expansion. It was announced on their instagram that Ilumhouse is planning to offer their prefab home in the United States starting now so I decided to stop by and have a look at a few of their homes in person. In this video I tour the Ilumhouse Nordic Plus, a 395 one bedroom prefab home with a loft space for extra sleeping. Watch and learn more about Ilumhouse and their plans to expand into the United States.

I’d like to order 20-40 units. How soon can it be ready and shipped to California?
@@vaspet8213 if you Google their name you will find them. The website also has their phone number.
❤ looking into your site!
@@vaspet8213you have to be joking. What are you trying to be another California landlord?
Good for you! I would recommend adding a page on your site listing locations and experiences -shipping time and cost. Any code challenges and solutions. Results may vary, but it helps to see challenges overcome.
I'm VERY impressed that you went to the effort and time and expense to travel that far for us!
Gad to hear, hope you enjoy the video!

Yes!! Thank you for reminding us that Kerry has really taken this on, & He Deserves our Real THANKS!
--esp. when so many are $400 per sq ft-why go tiny when We could build it with average builder for $200 ish sq foot-50% savings?
- OR if this may help any on the fence with Tiny bc of sq ftafe chg-I found a couple Park Modle Size Manufactured Homes Comfortsble-under 500 sq ft w many Windows across whole front as the Vaulted w front windows & also many including sliders, painted white-very close to this look for $100 + sq ft/ much under $200 sq ft.-could add own skylights no leak -yes they exist if they are installed correctly, & sliders come w plan-
- Can Really save by - ordering a Manufactured home-FRAME/SHELL-from Manufacturer, VERY notable cost savings per sq ft-If do own or hire only HVAC simple under floor radiant or put in a small furnace even outside system. Most Non-Manuf. prob be higher quality for the same price-b careful w some things are "off" sizes for exchanging some regular stick built doors--for non- manufactured homes, to Manufactured- verify measure & check that your (Home Store) purchase will fit into the Manufactured Home Door frame-may need whole frame-
BUT- Doors, cabinets, bathtubs, etc-trim, gutters, outside stairs, shutters, etc., lights, doors, anything else that is basic or charged as an "upgrade"-- if do a few extras outside yourself--on your land w/foundation -Basement? Crawlspace? Or Park lot.....
Tiny Village?
Just ordering the Basic Shell of a Manuf Home-which is up to Boca Code (stick built national code U.S.) then building inside, walls, cabinets, trim, flooring, lighting, etc.
Yourself or even handyman highred-should be able to by being frugal, with standard Building supplies, Save significantly & better quality 4 price-- Regular Manuf. Homes, this is where they make their income-by upgrades, which most ppl will want, & most are still highly marked-comparatively, so please be respectful!!
Pay the salesman a % or don't get them angry-BY Just wanting to walk away free & clear-if not buying at wharehouse! Still *signifivant savings-most likely!!
Wanting to give them zero-Not good- bc they will stop offering it or cancel your sale, they like to feed their families!- but they charge 17k for a heating system for under 500 sq ft- & anything attractive outside & inside is very overpriced to create a profit-which is their Business so remb they are working with you-be knowledgeable b4 hand which will help with your gaining a deal but not being insulting to the dealer if they have the modle you like etc-& not directly from manufacturer.
Great way to have the Shell, or Outside & enclosed-& plumbing already finished-& prob. the drywall/sheetrock-windows-which in the U.S. Shortly- Will require 2x panels windows that are also High Efficiency & appliances that are only Electric & High E. also-even if you hate electric burners- (not my decision).
A/C & dishwashers will be a thing if the past also, as they are not considered sustainable-to prepare everyone....
May want to invest in a few ceiling fans for sure well energy rated! Maybe a dehumidifier-which is actually what causes most of discomfort & paint Manuf H. roofs etc., with White reflective paint/Solar?
**(Used) M.H. Trailers -Nicer than construction site- are even More $$ economical if they are priced correctly-& can save more if bought right & remb to add the Shipping costs by licensed co, & Permits-esp. TRANSPORT INSURANCE 4 the Delivery!! (Read horror stories) Etc into anything shipped!!
@@KerryTarnow Mate yr there so why not do a vid on the place or at least one on the sauna lol
But he didn't bother to find out about the fact that U.S. Inspections will be difficult if not impossible.
This has got to be one of the best bang-for-the-buck offerings out there.
My favorite feature, besides the high ceilings and natural light which make it spacious inside, is the fact that there is NO PAINT !!! Yes !!! I can't stress that enough. Paint gets old, dirty, and peels and crumbles... and then you have to repaint the entire interior again, usually every 5 years. Such a headache. It never looks as good as the first time and paint splatters get everywhere. The wood walls and ceiling are stunning and will age with beautiful patina over time... just like Kerry Tarnow.
Yeah I like no paint also. I like the how the wood will age with cough cough..dirt.. I mean patina.
@@marshallallied 😆
Maybe you're just a sloppy painter...
You know you have to wet sand any painted surface before you put more paint on it, right? Otherwise, it gets flaky and you have to layer it on thicker for it to stick. Also, newspaper and drop cloths exist. If you're gonna complain, at least complain about VOCs or toxic pigments. But then, with all the particle board and plastic in this house, it would really invalidate such an argument. It is really annoying when people refer to manufactured board as 'wood'. That's not what it is. It is a bunch of sawdust held together with glue or plastic. Now, if you made particle board using casein glue or bioplastic resin as the binder, it might be able to be considered as 'green' at least.
@@Lurch-Bot Maybe you're just an a-hole... A sloppy painter? It doesn't matter. I push two elements of interior architecture. 1) NO PAINT 2) NO POT LIGHTS. I don't need to explain myself. If you want to paint your house, go for it. If you want to buy a horse and buggy instead of car, go for it.
Every 5 years, huh? How cheap is the paint you have been using? I’ve had the same paint on my home’s walls for 25 years and they still look good.
On their website they have floorplans and pictures of their "Nordic Sauna" home. Having an in-home sauna would be amazing.
I have a tour coming! It's cool
Can the sauna be bought without the house?
Pricepoint? Of course, that's great. I am older, nearing retirement, and could probably be happy in 1000 to 1200 sqr ft. What I want is a very smart one-level (no stairs/ladders) design with a bedroom separate from the living space. IMO 2 burner cooktops are sufficient but a lot of these kitchen sinks are too small to wash pots and pans. You have given me a lot of options to look at. Have yet to find my Goldilocks of space, design, and affordability. Keep the videos coming!
AWWWWW MAN KERRY YOU DONE DID IT!!! This is the price range and the aesthetics we love and need. Something that can be both contemporary and modern but also easily made into a cottage or a lake house vibe. 👏🏻 THANK YOU!! 🙏🏼
Thanks Alexandra 👊🏻
Thanks for responding to the price critiques. I was very impressed you went all the way to Latvia!
The Nordic house is a great option at a great price. I'm hoping they have lots of sales in the USA and other small home builders take notice.
Excellent video, you've given me hope that there are very some nice options at a reasonable price.
I hope they have enough sales to justify a north American plant in Mexico or Amish country.
It's nice to finally see some shipping charges from Europe to USA. 👍
Excellent, I am very interested in what else they have on their website. Hoping 2024 has more home builders like this. When you go to visit These builders, Kerry, let them know that Arizona is building warehouses like crazy.. This is all I have been building for the last 5 years in Phoenix. Warehouse after warehouse after warehouse. Maybe we can work together to get some of these home builders in the United States.
Instead of shipping to the United States. Keep up the good work, Kerry..
Now THAT'S what I'm talking about!!
Nice design, awesome price even including shipping. Beats the American prefab market options by a longshot!
i just wish the house was 1m longer, just so they can include a spiral stair, instead of that ladder.
Viewership may change as people make a decision and purchase. Don’t read too far into it. I always enjoy your videos when I have time to stop by. 50k is my budget, although I’m approved for much more.
Thanks Mimi, appreciate that
This is the best value in a manufactured home that I have seen on your channel. It compares favorably with high end "Park Model" homes in the US that lack the same style.
Better than a park model in that it appears to have full size doorways instead of the very narrow ones found in park models.
@@uteruspower1862 Yes but these don't have even half the enclosed storage space and I don't see anyplace to put laundry machinery. Even the ladder to the loft is extra, while park models have fixed stairs. I am left wondering about code violations... For example, local building code is R-18 walls and R-48 ceilings.
Edit -I watched again and they have a washer next to the commode and the water heater suspended above. US Code???
Park models are certified RVs
FINALLY, a Company that's has an Idea of what the Customer Wants...... Quality/Price/Economical(BINGO)!!!
💯💎🤙🏽
Love the in person look. Thanks man!
Glad you like it!
WOW! I'm super impressed that you traveled to Latvia Kerry! And also impressed with this home & it's layout. I'd drop the dining tàble and add a bar for dining & storage. The deck is beautiful & adds a ton of space. I hope more builders in North America start offering really great deals like this. I'm tempted to order one.
Your influence is spreading !
LATVIA!!!
You lucky dawg. Thank you for taking us with you on RUclips. This was super informative and AWESOME!
Welcome to America Ilumhouse! 🇺🇸
Great first house. The wood interior is gorgeous. And I love the exterior colors which fit in well with the northeast USA, where I’m at. 🗽
The loft looks fun. But my eyes really went big when I saw the washer/dryer combo in the bathroom. That’s a home run in my opinion. As is the whole house in general. And it fits into a small property space. What’s not to love? 😍
Awesome video Kerry. Hope you set a new personal record in views for this one. 😎
Thank you, thank you! Thank you for finally showing something that you don't have to be terribly rich to afford. The high dollar homes are fun to look at but unrealistic for many people.
It's the exact look I have been searching for a second bedroom slightly larger kitchen and an open concept slightly larger main living room excited to see the other floor plans
So happy to hear that Ilumhouse is going to start providing to the US. I really like their Helsinki model
Wow, this onsite visit is a welcoming change of pace. Thank you for making that huge trek and for your relaxed tourist video interludes today as well!
THOSE TINY HOMES LOOK AWESOME, AND ARE PRICED WELL --- EVEN WITH THE SHIPPING, A VERY GOOD VALUE DEPENDING WHERE YOU MAY BE DOING SETUP AND ACTUALLY LIVING...
One thing I wish you would ask about is snow loading strength, especially when a house or portion of it has a flat roof.
Very cool that you were able to travel to bring us this video!
I have to say, even with shipping, the price is very good.
Hope you enjoyed your trip.
Thank you Kerry!
❤️🌵☀️⛈️🌈☮️🐎🐕
It was an amazing trip, thanks for watching
Nice home ,thanks
Wow, above and beyond the call of duty. Way to go Kerry! I hope you are taking advantage of the trip and doing some sightseeing.
I did! It was a quick trip but packed a lot in
Interesting. I appreciate the in-person research you do. By the way, nice sidestep around the fridge, which I assume is the briefly shown little gray box up against the wall to the left of the mini kitchen. I only saw a closet in the bedroom, which is nice, but you'd have to use the loft for other storage. People have stuff other than clothes. Thanks for the tour.
There was also a shed outside.
I think there was a closet in the bedroom...It had a mirror front on one of the doors. There were clothes on top like a shelf.
yeah, you can't really expect 2 kids (or even just 1) to have that loft as their bedroom, either. that setup seems more like a short-term vacation rental situation.
Now you’re talking! You did well Kerry! Love to see the larger models.
Very cool. 50K seems to be the magic number for smaller prefabs with good design. U said U’d put the Euro price and USD conversion on the screen near the end of the video but I didn’t see it. Go do this right now ha. Cheers💜🐬
I love Latvia, their story and their women (they're very European and authentic) Now, I love their prefab house's they compare in price to Boxabl but are bigger ... Great video !!
This is a great home. I really like the videos where you actually tour the homes, great video!
The more of your videos I see, the more I'm convinced that you would be comfortable anywhere, and probably can sleep standing up.
Thanks always Kerry!
Latvia and Estonia seem to be making real waves in industry since they left the USSR. I have a family friend who retired to Latvia after going to a language immersion thing. He loved it there.
I’m sure if they can keep this pricing after they get their houses established they will want to build a factory here. Well, states are clamoring for them. One sure way to get the price of housing down is build good houses cheaply. There is a ton of need.
410 thumbs up. (*395)
I hope other companies can see what these guys are doing.
It would be cool to see you visit some NA installations once they do deliver on this side.
Out of ALL of the tiny homes/prefabs that I've seen, Ilumhouse seems to be the best in terms of quality and affordability :D
WOW!!! That's a winner!!!! Unbelievable prices, very affordable & stylish....on my list. Thanks Karry, for sharing this!
These are beautiful amazing homes for $70-80K including shipping. Thank you for doing the interview/visit and taking us along!
Good on you for making the long trip. I loved the design of the house!
Kerry I don't know you but I love what you are doing! I'm sharing your channel with my friends and anyone I meet that is looking for an affordable home. I really believe this is the answer for affordable homes as well as meeting population growth and sustainable living.
On another note about myself I'm living as a nomad so I can save money to buy a small plot of land and do my art. We all need to figure out how to live that makes us happy about our lives.
Thanks Shaun!
Great prefab, thanks for traveling there to get this footage.
My pleasure, thanks for watching
Gorgeous! Well planned space. Clean lines. Contemporary.
Yeah!!!!! Thank you Kerry and Ilumhouse for this awesome prefab!! Be well, happy and keep on trucking Kerry!!💛
Thanks!
Interesting choice. I may have missed it but I didn’t see a refrigerator. Thanks for traveling to Latvia. As always, great job!
Good point-I need a decent refrigerator. I could probably live w/a mini stove & microwave & am not interested in a dishwasher.
There was a grey mini fridge sitting on the floor across from the sink area. The space appears large enough to fit a larger fridge than that.
After watching this video, I want to design my own dream home. I hope to grow my channel to be like urs
You can do it!
I'll check out some of your videos. My version of daydreaming is thinking up houses, cars, and food recipes. I think I'd have made a good engineer or architect if the military thing hadn't worked out.
Nice I'm hoping you found a couple more companies to visit while there great tour!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for making that long journey for this great video Kerry!
Great video, Kerry ! 👍
Enjoy your time in Europe.
Yay! Good job Kerry, amazing homes.
Thanks 🙏🏻
Wow, Kerry !
You must be so impressed that people in Latvia speak Canadian !!
😏
haha very impressed
"If you haven't guessed, this is the bedroom"...with the way you had your head not even looking a the camera, brilliant and maybe unintentional but that started me laughing as you always do in your videos all the while really enjoying learning about all these tiny houses...bravo, well done!!
Haha thanks
Hi Kerry, all I can say is WOW ! That was an awesome home. Thanks so much for taking us along can't wait to see there other homes. Safe travels
Would be Nice to see "here" floor level Bedroom, with room to walk as old persons are majority of buyers for such homes, walking on walker needs space to get up of bed, Glad to See European Manufacturer Vs. china flimsy made. Great Vid, thanks.
I'm glad you went out there, I just found your channel randomly, bless thee random YT algorithm gods, anyways, now I have put this on a list that I may actually buy one of these one day (depending on reviews/cost/customization/durability/quality).
Thanks for stopping by 🙌🏼
Kerry, they're great-looking and the prices are very reasonable. Do they say anything about whether or not the homes will pass the building code requirements in the US?
Yes, Im wondering that also, if they are code compliant for California etc...
For one thing, the bathroom toilet next to the washer/dryer is not code compliant. There’s too little space for the toilet.
They will definitely not be code compliant in most cities and neighborhoods as a primary house. Maybe as an ADU, depending on local guidlines.
Of course they’ll not be code compliant, I’m in FL and unfortunately hardly anything passes.
AMAZING! Finally style and design with normal pricing! Good job and THANK YOU!
Glad you like it!
Thanks, Kerry!
Thank you for showing Latvian homes
Love this one. Would also like to see the Skara if you're still there and can video it. I'm interested in about 700 sq ft.
I really like all the questions you ask in interviews with brief edited answers to maximize info swiftly.
Thanks!
Great video. Thank you!!!! Best always
Totally agree with exorbitant cost for small homes. I quit watching your videos as it seemed this lifestyle was out of reach as a cost effective solution for a retired couple in Canada (Ontario). So I appreciate your effort here. Still want this type of home to be my next step. I’ll have to see if I have the energy for the process. Thanks for your awareness of what consumers are looking for.
Glad you are visiting the homes you feature and building frequent flyer miles . Yes keep making on-site vids. Thanks
Very good one Kerry. Enjoy your lighthearted delivery with solid info. Fly if you must
Even with shipping, that’s still a great deal for such a cool house. Thanks Kerry for another informative and entertaining video.
Kerrryyyy!! You are a rock star. Can't believe you made the trek to Latvia for us! These homes are so much more affordable for seniors like me on a tight budget. Thanks for looking out for options for us.
Second time watching. Excellent Q and A , with the producer of these homes, Kerry. and entire vid wonderfully done...I want to add that i think your reviews in these vids are better than any cost of any advertising would even come close to doing as well. And the exposure with the consistent audience you have who appreciate what you say and show us knowing your integrity and knowledge you bring to it must be worth a lot to those you review as well as to the audience who consistently love your work.
Thanks Marian 😃
I've half-expected you to block me on several occasions because of how angry I've gotten about prices. When I started exploring these homes a while back, being very low income, I found places that were *hugely* misleading about costs (outright deceiving) and nowhere near affordable in this atrocious administration's economy, that is hitting the poor hardest of all. WHERE are the low cost homes??? It seems we're finally getting close to it becoming a reality, and the demand is *certainly* there.
So thanks for your efforts, you're doing half the work for me. And thanks for not blocking me for yelling so much. ;p
Edit P.S. HUGE bonus that this has a loft area. A loft for me will always be the stand out deciding feature if it's priced right. Cheers.
Yeah, they all seem expensive to me. Also with all the windows including slider doors it will be expensive to heat.
I like it! Price & shipping are wonderful ! Thanks for letting us in on your Euro vacation. I’ll wait for the USD exchange rate to get stronger … it’s pretty lousy now.
Spot on, as always, Kerry! Thanks for taking a trip across the pond to really take a good look at this beautiful tiny home!
Glad you enjoyed it
Love it!! especially the realistic pricing. I'm saying this as I reach for the phone.
Great value for money!
We appreciate you Kerry 😊
Thanks for making the trek
Thanks for watching
What they really need to do is start a manufacturing plant here in the US. The shipping puts it into a price-range that's not really competitive with some homes in the US. I do like the idea and I subscribed to your channel to see more possibilities. I'd love to know if there are off-grid fully self-sustaining homes that are reasonably inexpensive. I prefer more room on one level than less on two. Some of these companies could apply for federal funding to help provide these kinds of homes to low income, elderly, and disabled. If they were full solar with battery back-up it would also cut monthly living costs tremendously.
That would be fabulous but even with what it cost to ship and send crews to install it's still probably cheaper. Once they hit the American market the price of materials, labor etc skyrockets. I've been in Europe the past five years and will be returning in 6-9 months. Reverse culture shock as in only five years I will have to triple my income to even rent comfortably in the US. It would be nice if they could have a warehouse with display homes in the states and maybe build in Europe then ship and store them. Maybe this will happen. I'm sure they want to test the market first. They've obviously brought their teams up to date on what housing regs are required in the US. Definitely a company to watch. 👏🏼
Such a nice design, and love the light, wood, and clever kitchen.
Thanks for watching
@@KerryTarnow HI Kerry, some spam hit your site offering a prize from you. Thought you'd like to know. I labeled as spam to report it. I appreciate you.
Finally a good looking prefab home that has a nice pointed roof with heightened ceilings. I'm tired of the shipping container aesthetic of most prefabs and modulars. This airy design is fantastic. It's important to have more overhead space when your home's outward structural footprint is constrained by limited property space, or you'd like to have more usable yard. The loft design provides a nice efficient layout with more usable space below.
Glad you like it 🙌🏼
@@KerryTarnow Thanks for the content. Living in WA state, finding reasonably-priced land to build a home on the western side is a bit tough, especially with the high amount of red tape. I hope to have a nice space like this some day near a wooded area.
Amazing video, man! Thank you for all the details!
Another great prefab home! Thank you for your video! Another thing to consider is the 21% VAT that will be added in addition to the import fees at the US border. Keep up the good work!
What'd you put in your locker? Lofts are so fun as a kid, it's a secret fort🥳
Thanks Kerry
Is anyone in EU or US creating communities with the Nordic models? I felt relaxed and lighter just seeing you in that environment! If you need more accessibility will the designers work with you or would that be for a contractor stateside? I am a proud ‘wheelie’ and can see the possibilities for me with adjustments. The loft is a bit of a kicker though. Have to put my thinking cap on to solve that one. Many thanks Kerry for the information and inspiration!
I have heard from a few that are looking at it
thank you for taking the trip for this tour, they look gorgeous and as a lender I appreciate the quality and style! Might just have to order one myself!
Thanks for watching
That was fantastic..
This is the most exciting thing I've seen on your channel in quite some time. Even with shipping costs it's very affordable for the U.S. market.
WE LOVE THIS TYPE OF VIDEO!!!!!!
This would be a great house for an air bnb type situation.🎉
It looks like that was what it was designed for. More like hotel than a home.
Thanks for always being amazing. 🎉
Thank you!
Another fantastic video 😊 stay safe have fun 😆 we’re enjoying the new format 👍🏾
Thank you 😁
Great house - smart.
thanks for watching
Hey....more footage of Latvia would be nice too. Tiny home travel blog.
Oh interesting idea! I like it
This is a beautiful home and this is what I'm looking at. Thank you so much for putting out these tiny home videos. Do we need a homework for us❤
Shivering black bell thumbs up! AHH there's the video I missed! Thanks for traveling so far!
Thanks for watching!
The first time I saw these models on the internet, I emailed them and begged them to come to the U.S., as I'm sure many other people did. Great news!
Yeah I’m guessing they got a lot of interest
I would stay away from companies advertising in metrics only for warranty purposes because of the difference in sizes. Yes you can convert it but its a way out for foreign companies to not honor warranty especially if its off by 1/2 inch. US uses imperial units of measure. So if a foreign company refuses to publish the conversion equivalent but would argue that "YOU" need to do the conversion, id stay away from it. I learned the expensive way.
love the tiny but giant space to live and love!
These look good!
Nice to see you take the show on the road! 😃
It's been fun!
There's no question that aesthetically the home looks very nice. And it's hard to beat the price point. That being said, other than the closet that appeared to be in the bedroom, I saw no other storage elsewhere. Where does one hang up one's coats or store things like a vacuum cleaner, sports equipment, etc. The kitchen was pretty small and looked it only had a 2 burner cooktop, but no stove, and I don't recall you pointing out where the fridge was. You mentioned how cool the loft space was for 2 kids. Where do they store their things, (ie. clothes, toys, etc.)? So again, aesthetically quite lovely, but as a full time home for more than one person doesn't seem very practical.
More "Instagram" than "home" for sure. This model is the same size as a "Park Model". Lately PMs fully equipped with absolutely everything high end are ~$100k.
PMs have more window area but these have bigger unobstructed windows. Visually these look 1/3 bigger, but they have less than 1/3 the storage.
What you said goes for all their floorplans I could see. Aesthetically very nice, price seems great, but the layout itself just...lacks practical livability due to some very strange choices
@@Lockke_problem is you need a bigger structure to make the floorplan better. Then the price goes up, it has to play by different rules, the quality expectations of components goes up, the needs of the prospective client change because you moved from one price bracket to another... suddenly you have 1200-1800sf of usable house that costs 350k
Hi Kerry, another great video. When will thry deliver to Canada, specifically NB and NS?
