    This is everything DLC should be - it’s completely unnecessary to the game, but it offers a really cool experience (basically recreating a scene from the movie as the character with new voiceover work from the actual actress) using the full game’s controls.

      The Alien was just not interested in him (primarily because it doesn't pose a threat to its survival whatsoever). The creature in this movie was almost like human in a sense - unlike other Xenos that kill like animals, this one feels like it savored in its victims' terror before ending their miseries.

  • @REgamesplayer

    Last survivor puts alien in more organic environment. That is, it is not scripted to check objectives once very minute. This leaves a lot more breathing room to a player, almost to the point that you could with some luck completely miss the alien outside the forced sequences.
    Also, I''m always perplexed when player dodges the alien and then makes run only to ward it off with flamethrower.

  • @EternalRoman
    @EternalRoman 8 лет назад +132

    Excellent DLC, It would had been even better if they added a mission to get Jones the cat, or run into Capt. Dallas cocooned as well as Brett and burn them before you can escape the Nostromo. Wow, it's crazy how THIS game and all it's DLCs captures the original visceral fear factor of the original 1st film, I love it. One minor gripe is that through all it's greatness the ONLY minimal detail missing in the game as well as in the DLCs are the CHESTBURSTERS. I believe this is the only game missing them. Someone should point that out to the makers, who knows and they can make some DLC with one as either a flashback or a scene. Btw, you played this game perfectly to try and channel Ripley greatly, well done!

    • @LorenHelgeson
      @LorenHelgeson 8 лет назад +6

      Right. At the very least, I was expecting a flashback with Ransome in that DLC mission where you play him. As Waits put it in an audio log, "the guy had a front row seat to the whole show." Seeing as you do find the captain's corpse in the med bay at one point, I almost imagine a recreation of that dream in the beginning of Aliens, taken to its logical conclusion.

    • @EternalRoman
      @EternalRoman 8 лет назад +1

      Loren Helgeson I suppose that they may be thinking of a good story for the sequel in order to give us another good game. Sometimes the success of a game can bring failure to the sequel and also we need to look at it from also a plot point. Something that is still interesting enough to complement the franchise. Sigourney Weaver loved the story on this game, as did the original ALIEN stars, and even William Hope (Lt. Gorman) from ALIENS was part of this awesome game. The question is, how to continue the story of Amanda Ripley after finding out what happened to her mom, and not be a target of Weyland Yutani, sufficiently to "die" married and of "cancer" two years before ALIENS? After having knowledge of these events, do you think a sane person would just stay quiet or not form some sort of underground renegade group trying to topple the Company and try to keep the aliens to ever reach human society, while still possessing the same mystery as to the creature's origin? This group of people whom made the game have been phenomenal, they have a free range of story plots to create and expand the universe of the Alien franchise...you know...if Ridley Scott fixes the crap of Prometheus and Neil Blonkamp's (probavly mispelled that) Alien sequel has the ok and also works out. So in that sense, I think they didn't give us all of what we love and left the fans to fill in the gaps with what we know with our imagination and still they were able to induce the original ALIEN fear in order to maybe give us more on the possible sequel.

    • @LorenHelgeson
      @LorenHelgeson 8 лет назад +4

      EternalRoman I really do hope they are planning a sequel. This game had its flaws, but it's one of the best horror games I've played in a long time. Plus, I've had a long-running love for the Alien series, so I'd like to see how else they can branch out.

    • @EternalRoman
      @EternalRoman 8 лет назад +1

      Loren Helgeson I hear ya, and I agree 200%. This game to me was able to resurrect a lost link to the real terror of ALIEN and the vastness of space as well as it's sheer loneliness. It's funny too, that it had more than one Alien and yet it didn't betray the creature's sheer horror factor I saw it lost in ALIENS and onwards. It wasn't a bug, it's an unknown biomechanical parasitic organism almost unkillable. Now yes, the game had some major flaws, like although it was cool to make the alien impossible to kill, when you shot it, it's acid wouldn't do damage to either the player or the environments to make you lose. That was a big mistake since it was the greatest fear in trying to kill the alien in the 1st movie. In the 2nd we saw the damage but not enough to be of much concern and they made the aliens so weak and dumb to an extent. Like you, I hope they DO make a 2nd game and that they incorporate the chestbursters and the acid factor to be of serious concern, while still making the alien terrifying. I like the Alien "Queen" concept, but I don't like the "hive" idea, I even have a very cool idea for the cocoons that could be new as well, and based on some of the original concepts. So who knows, maybe some of the people involved in this game can make more cool things as well.

    • @SadAndVengeful
      @SadAndVengeful 8 лет назад +4

      You're a true Alien fan. Not one of those Aliens unreasonable fanboys, who adore it, just because all the America does with no clue. They got some "bad-ass", american soldiers and a lot of shooting and they're satisfied with that.
      You, on the other hand, are very objective (even if you like Aliens as well) and show the rightful respect to the original movie without which there'd be no Aliens. If it comes to me it is not AVP, which ruined the franchise, but Aliens all along. If there wouldn't be Aliens with it's all-action and no horror plot there'd be no blockbuster with Predator ect. You pointed out every flaws of Aliens' "bugs" - weak, stupid and not scary at all. Early Starship Troopers movie. It's Alien: Isolation which is the right sequel to Alien.
      This game has returned the glory of Alien franchise, if you ask me. Alien: Covenant will do the job as well if it won't have Prometheus absurds. I don't want that Blookamp's shit to ever come out, as it'll move things to point 0 again. I can see another swarm of silly FPS shooters based on Aliens-only again, like we have them all the time.

      On Jones
      In the Commodore 64 game, Alien (Published by Argus Press), Jones was a major part of it. If you decided to try and escape in the shuttle then picking up Jones was a REQUIREMENT and he would be notoriously difficult to catch until you got the cat box for him. Once caught though he effectively acted as a second scanner as he would be uneasy if the alien was in a neighboring room.

    As a near lifelong fan of this film this DLC along with Crew Expendable were everything anyone could ever ask for in an Alien game. I have but one, single complaint with the ending. Being able to blow the Alien out of the shuttles airlock is one thing, but what I would've really loved is if when you reached the Narcissus there was a small segment were you strap in, lay back and watch as the shuttle races away from the ship with Mother counting down before it fades into the far distance and explodes. I still love this DLC tho.

    I still say that most videos when an analog controller is used look better that the ones using mouse+keyboard.
    Yes, you can aim better in Counter-Strike when using mouse and keyboard.
    However, this game is not a classic, strict FPS. You must sneak, using speed changes, veeeery slow creeps, slight peeks.
    Using a mouse and keyboard results in controls (uniform speed, full tilt leans) that the character moves around not like a human, but more like an RC car.
    Like in this very video :)

    • @ashleysmall2718
      @ashleysmall2718 10 лет назад +5

      I agree. I played this for full effect, so I moved my keyboard and mouse aside and plugged in my controller. Everything seems smoother and more fluid with a controller, at least for me. It's certainly not optimal for performance, but in my opinion it's optimal for immersing yourself in the world.
      Most people say it's blasphemous to use a controller with PC games, but it's a preference of mine. It also means I can lean back in my chair (not that I was ever relaxed playing Isolation)

    • @MoonsingerMedia
      @MoonsingerMedia 10 лет назад +3

      Well I can only disagree. I can't use a controller to save my life. Mouse and keyboard are extremely fluid for me. Basically it shouldn't matter what you use .. as long as it works for you. I think we can all agree on that.

    • @grarghov1
      @grarghov1 10 лет назад

      ***** i also tried both (and both worked), "fluidity" is not about like choppy controls. I meant that movement is too "digital" with mouse and keyboard...using analog controller is like hand drawing, using mouse and keyboard feels like drawing with an industrial plotter machine :) (that's why te "RC car" analogue for movement)... my point was not usefulness, but immersion :)

    • @grarghov1
      @grarghov1 10 лет назад

      grarghov1 actually using a controller with real FPS games is certainly harder and it is more difficult to aim, but just try to aim with a REAL gun :) you cannot do the tricks with a fully laden rifle in real life as in e.g. CS :)
      it is ok that it is not "real life", only a game, but then why most gamers fetishize realistic visuals and physics while sticking to cartoonish controls :)

    Upon watching that, I feel that it seems shortened a bit to where all it amounts to is an escape level. Back when we had Commador 64/Spectrum, one of the best things I liked about playing Alien on that is you have to actually control the crew, fix the ship and use all manner of strategy to defeat the Alien and none of it was scripted. Either kill it, blow it out the air lock, etc and anyone could be the android. Of course someone has to be the host and it's not a surprise to see Ripley dead at the start.
    Much of that I wished would have been a main focus here.

    The only problems I have with this DLC:
    1.They should have used original 1979 movie audio for "Mother" as well as the self-destruct alarm; The "Mother" voice in this DLC is a pale imitation and the alarm isn't present in certain sections of the ship when it should be heard at all times everywhere Ripley goes.
    2. Weaver's voice in this DLC just doesn't have the terrified, frantic and frenzied sound to it that was present in the 1979 movie; She sounds more calm and composed here.

    • @Mechasonicrocks
      @Mechasonicrocks 9 лет назад

      +thedevastator1994 True, but you have to admit they messed up with the "Mother" voice and the alarm. I guarantee Sega had access to the original "Mother" voice audio as well as the alarm. For instance, one of the alarms you hear is from "Aliens" when Ripley is entering the reactor to save Newt, which further proves Sega had and could've used the actual alarm from "Alien" instead of smooshing together random alarm sounds from the first two movies.

    • @conatcha
      @conatcha 8 лет назад

      +Mechasonicrocks I guess that:
      1) They couldn't have got a clear sample of the original Mother voice from the movie.
      2) Sigourney is not a dubbing/voice actress, and you can tell when you hear this. In the Spanish version of AI we are so lucky we got the original dubbing actress for Sigourney in Alien and her voice acting is superb. She captures all the mood of the original movie and it's so awesome for an Alien fan to play this DLC with this Spanish dubbing.

    • @Mechasonicrocks
      @Mechasonicrocks 8 лет назад

      +conatcha I can maybe understand point 1 about not being able to get a clear "Mother" voice sample, and I was a bit harsh about Weaver's re-dub. However, the "alarm" problem still seems like the creators were a bit lazy.

You sound like you are great fan of the Alien series however .. the fact that the problems you had were those is kinda mind boggling .. the re dubbing of Ripley and Mother is understandable. The alarm was great i understood why they used it to create even more tension. But the reason why im mind boggled is the fact that you didn’t mention the fact that the Cat is non existent in the Dlc plus that we didn’t kill the Alien ..

      For that, the player would have to play on nightmare mode and ditch the motion tracker. (You can tell that he isn't playing at the hardest difficulty because the motion tracker isn't faulty.) Also, don't get seen by the alien. Also, don't use the flamethrower to scare off the alien. Also, after activating the self-destruct and getting almost all of the way to the shuttle, go all the way back to the self-destruct mechanism, wait about a minute, then try to get to the shuttle again.
