I am going to do this with my 05 excursion. I tried to go to Kentucky from Washington with my excursion pulling a fully loaded 36ft bumper pull. Got 5 miles down the road and became fearful our lives it was all over the road uncontrollable. Came back home and got duramax. Fuel pump and injectors on duramax went out in Montana had to trade in duramax for a 2017 ran with cummins. Finished trip 10k miles. Most expensive trip ever.
Most of Fords death wobble comes from a lack of caster. Ford only runs around 2 degrees of caster. If you have the adjustability to get closer to 5 or 6 degrees the death wobble tendencies will be gone.
To fix your abs issues , take your old speed sensors off the old axles front and rear and swap to your new axles and light will go off, plugs are the same for the sensors
Yup this is the fix, I removed the sensors on this truck and pulled the light. I don’t want the abs trying to not stop when I dropping down an obstacle.
Not sure if you figured out the abs, but do you have a scanner to read data? That will tell you where the issue is. Wouldn't you just need to swap the flange on the rear drive shaft? Easy as changing the u-joint
The abs issue is what the newer sensors don't talk to our older computers, so swap in the original excursion sensors and ABS if fixed. Yes rear DS you could change the flange, I wanted to upgrade for my purposes.
@@Geeks4x4 Good info. I plan on doing this in the future so knowing the details beforehand is good. My Ex is also a 2000, same color, but a 7.3 with 300k on it. Still going strong.
Do you happen to have a link to the ream you used? I’ve been doing research on this swap for years on the forums and finally came across your channel. Just bought an axle today for my ‘00 f250. Great work man!
Welcome to the channel! So first check out the whole playlist here for all the details but I actually have zero luck with a ream, I ended up using grinding stones on my drill and making the taper as best as I could. It did work and was tight but you really need to swap the steering box out as well. Actually the video dropping today at 2:45 (pst) goes into that swap and shows some issues with running the stock box. Here's a link to the ream that would have worked best if I hadn't figured out the grinding stone amzn.to/45qerTb I think I got my hole to hot with a not sharp ream and ruined my chances. You may have better luck, and you can use the stock box, but I'd plan to upgrade in the near future.
Coil spring compatibility, D50 axles vs D60 axles strength for power transmission (D50 is machined down smaller), and the steering knuckles have more mobility for better turning radius. That's the big 3 reasons most swap over.
Its hard to compare, considering I ended up with a dana 60 and the tighter turning radius is one of the biggest things I love about the swap. But over all I'm very happy with it. Finally got some proper 4 link bars on it so next week in moab will show its true colors... we shall see!
For abs I had read something about swimming thr wheel spoed/abs sensors. What springs did you go with? I'm on 35s and can't decide between 2.5 or 4.5 from pmf.
If I'm understanding, I need to swap the wheel speed sensors from my old axle? I haven't tried that but I will. Front springs are stock 2005 f250 rears are stock excursion. Stock f250 front springs give you 25" center hub to fender.

Wow! Ya that’s costly trip for sure.
Great info! I have a 2003 Excursion. Can't wait to see the rest of your content!
Thanks! glad to help!

Very true, For me I was having issues because of the 40's being unbalanced. Got the tires balanced and no more issues.
Caster is what did it for me too, got 5 degrees and new tires at the same time… never got the death wobble again

Thanks for the info. I have a donor truck I'm currently stripping to do this within the month. Your videos have been extremely helpful
Your the type of folks I was hoping to help. I am glad to hear it! good luck with the swap, take your time and get it right you'll be glad you did!

Sounds good and will be giving that video a watch! Will definitely be running a redhead in the long run
@@keatonchance6289 Their customer service is bar none and I have yet to have any issues with one of their boxes (installed 3 now)
Coming back to this comment, I just did the swap last weekend with a Carli back country kit. Your video made it an absolute cakewalk. Thank you!
Where did you find the axles/donor trucks? Local or do you have any online recommendations?
I found mine on Facebook marketplace…. Just keep your eyes out🔎
Why did you need to get new axles? Is because the coil sprint system won’t attach to the excursions original front axle???
Yup, exactly

Cant wait to see your feedback, i went with the full traction 4 link setup for an 05+ superduty, but have been curious how this compares

@@Geeks4x4 I did the dana 60 as well. I'm still amazed over a year later how much tighter I can turn with my 37s! Lol
Ya the 40’s even clear, with these new arms

@Geeks4x4 not sure I need to find the forum post again but it mentioned shimming the sensors. When I do I'll post it here or to facebook
Awesome, or email me. Love to make this info easy to access
The real question is how does it ride with the coil swap
10/10 would recommend 😎 ya it’s much better
Where is the parts at on the pmf website? I have a complete 2011 f250 4wd I wanna put axles out of it under a excursion . But don't see the brackets
You have to look under 2005-2007 ford f250 parts. Or you can email me and I can set you up (I'm a dealer) Geeks4x4@gmail.com
Is caster adjustable on that setup?
It will be with new control arms 🤙 but not factory
What’s the gear ratio in the axle? You going to keep it OEM or change it out?
These axles are 4:10's, it needs lower gears for the 40's for sure.
