Yea, its been a road with the 6.0 but nock on wood, its always given warning before leaving me stranded. Believe it or not most of the money spent so far has been on axels and suspension 👍
Dude! Your too goofey genius for me. I have a 2001 Excursion Limited, 6.8L V10. Its got the same color scheme as yours. I love it and am trying to slowly rescue and restore it. But you've gone to the SUPER EXTREME! I never seen a Rock-Crawler Excursion EVER!! I'd be happy with some new wheels, tires, and coilover shocks. Throw me a response if u ever wanna sell yours though😎👍
Everything is for sale 😎 Just got back from a trip, the mind boggling thing is that it still tows like a dream. Jacob@Chesna.us Thanks for reaching out!
Rear is 2005-08 factory axle with ARB air locker with stock leafs & 1" blocks, Fox IFP 2.0 shocks. Nothing fancy in the rear, all the magic is up front.
@@owlclawthanks, how much of a lift overall? You mentioned a 6” lift kit in the front; I’m basically trying to figure out how high to go to get the 37” tires where you have them. I love how you have kept the lift at a minimum,
Mostly a basic four link but with the custom coil buckets. So far these are the only set but they're pretty straight forward to make. One day I'll be able to just make 10 of everything 🤞
@@owlclaw 💯 I wanted a diesel 'scursion so badly, but they are so expensive that I gave up hope. Then I came across this guy's Tahoe SAS and due to the lower cost, bought an '04 Tahoe and am going to start the swap as soon as ski season ends (SLC area). I'm gonna try for 37s since the 35s fit his really well with minimal trimming. You guys are truly an inspiration. Thanks for sharing with the rest of us. www.youtube.com/@tahoverlanding/videos
I've been kicking around the idea of doing a spring under for the rear, then you don't have to link it up for wrap, etc. Also wondered of using revolver shackles for the rear while SUA for a lot of droop/flex. Seeing what you've done with yours is definitely inspiring. I'm looking at doing the axle swap and just leaving it like that for awhile, seeing as how it seems like the coil front end is already a pretty formidable platform. At least until I get more money and a better idea of exactly what I want out of it. Thanks for your uploads, I want to what you're doing with your X aha
Rear is pretty flexy already and surprisingly I don't have wrap problems, even the few times I was doing burnouts 😂 Yea, Mercinary's Ex had 40's on leafs and rocked Moab, nothing wrong with leaving it as is and spending elsewhere!
@@owlclaw did you swap the longer springs from the donor truck in the rear, too? I hear the leaf springs from the 05+yrs are longer which helps with wrap/flex, too.
@fluffykittynoodles the 08-16 rear leafs are longer. PMF sells the brackets to swap them over, its a pretty straightforward install - just time consuming.
I would be interested in a kit. I want to run 40's with no lift / cut / tub the fenders. Also seems the rear should have a similar 4 link to get rid of axle wrap.
Factory front sectioned and covered in tubes. Rear is just tubes over the raised hitch. There is another video on the channel showing how we did the front sectioning.
Lots of persuasion 😆. Not because I couldn't part with it or I think its worth a million bucks, but because I'd have to go through all the growing pains of finding that perfect recipe again on the next build. DM me and lets chat about it if your serious, better yet book a flight and we can go pound on it! owlclawfab@gmail
If I were going for more than 10" of travel I would be more up for it. But it being the trailing axel (not steering) it doesn't have to be as rigid for towing. But what I would have to do is a 5 link (4 link with panhard) just like the front. Triangulated four links can get pretty sloppy if everything is not brand new.
@@owlclaw Thinking about 4 linking my rear on my 01' Excursion, since I 4 linked the front similar to yours (Except it was only an 05' dana 60 axle swap & not the entire front frame swap). Great point about making it a 5 link. Triangulating a 4 link while getting around the exhaust seems to be a problem back there... Then again, looking at yours, I may not need to go coilover in the rear to get a softer ride, just need to get rid of my Add -a-leafs(It will jar your fillings loose)!
You mention a video how you go over this in a different video, I’ve gone over all your videos and do not see The one you are talking about. Are there other videos that are not listed anymore?
I think you found it? Come on out to an event like king of the hammers and we can go wheeling. See what you like and what you'd like to do different first hand!!
@@owlclaw yes I found it, it wasn’t under videos. I had to look under playlist. I haven’t wheeled since I was a kid. It’s pretty amazing it does what it does with factory suspension. Since it came off of a 250, so 250s already have this much flex in the rear?
@@robdmau yea all the flex comes from the rear on a f250 with arms. Its like taking two pipe wrenches to the front axel when trying to get only one side to go down. It is still pretty impressive what it can do from the factory tho. www.owlclaw.us/builds/diesel-excursion/ I had more opportunity to post pics here showing the extended coil buckets without the fender liners on this build page. I pushed the coil buckets up as much as I could without moving the batteries; that's why I used the 1.5" blocks in the back, just to be level with the front.
@@owlclaw so these springs are from a 6” lift, to avoid the lift you pushed the buckets up as high as you could which still left a little (1.5”) so you just blocked the rear to level it out. How’s the squat towing 10k lbs?
@@robdmau Correct, but with the rear springs being 20 years old, its prolly right at factory height and the front would be "leveled" (+2") like a typical leveling kit. The spring rate is about 300/in on each side so squat should be about 2" at the hitch with 1K lbs on the ball. On that trailer I use a distribution hitch so there no sag. With our latest trailer and with the hitch moved up and strengthened, I just hitch it up but its around 6K total with ~1K on the ball, and it sits and tows much better.
Love these videos. It’s been part of the inspiration and resource for my swap. Axle getting gears now
Gotta make some vid's too! When you get down, lets get the cameras rollin!
Love the Ex. I really like the front bumper. Not a fan of those heavy gage steel bumpers. I have the v10 but wish I could afford the 6.0. Nice vids!

That Biden clip got an instant like. Also, awesome approach to the suspension. I'm considering an ex and would totally want to do it like this.

Thank you

did it end up lifting the truck at all? or just increase the droop?
