  • Have you wondered about the ford excursion coil spring conversion? The 05+ axle swap has become more common in recent years so I thought I'd give it a try with the bobbed excursion. In this video I go over everything front start to finish and show how I used the PMF conversion brackets. This swap takes some time and I sure hope its worth it!

    First Time Viewer.....good video. What about using some parts from an 2005 - 2007 F250 / F350 to avoid reaming out holes on the Excursion parts? FYI - The next time you have the front bumper off...replace the 3 bolts that secure each tow loop to the frame. Take one of the junk OEM bolts and go to Fastenal and purchase or order 6 of the same size Grade 8 bolts. The OEM bolts can and will break if the truck is ever stuck deep in the mud. I had a 2006 Ford F350 that was stolen and the thieves got it stuck in the mud up to the frame. Tow truck winched it out, but all three bolts on the left (drivers side) busted and the tow loop hit the tow truck driver in the chest and knocked him on the ground.

      Thanks for watching, and commenting. Yes so you can and I did in a later video install an 05-07 steering box, the newer pitman arms does not fit the older box. Great tip… again in another vid I have upgraded the bumper and actually chopped the frame and made it stronger.

    Nice video. The 05+ frame have gussets on the back side of the engine crossmember to each frame rail. Have you found these to be not necessary?

      Quite a few excursion guys have done this swap now and I have not heard of a bent frame yet... But I should probably build some for the wheeling this rig is going to see....

    @Geeks4x4, did you have to add any spacers between the Excursion frame and PMF radius arm brackets and coil buckets?

    • @Geeks4x4
      @Geeks4x4  7 месяцев назад +1

      Nope, bolts right on. Spacers would misalign it with a hot rivet that the brackets have a hole for.

      This video is an old one, it was shot before EJS this year. (copyright issues so I remade it) Next Moab trip is planned for EJS 2024

    Most guys change the steering box...I'm not gonna do it because of the manifold access even though I already did them. I have a 3/3/98 f350 dana 50..

      @Geeks4x4  7 месяцев назад

      I ended up doing the newer steering box a little later this year, its not enough bigger to change the access to the manifold bolts, but its a huge improvement in strength for my 40's.

      I mean the axle swap.. The upper mount. I might go d60 but use leafs.

    • @Geeks4x4
      @Geeks4x4  7 месяцев назад

      Oh ya, very true, but the gained travel, ride quality, turning radius and apparently bigger brakes make the newer 60 swap worth it… older 60 is just a strength upgrade, but if your not wheeling I don’t see any reason to upgrade for just strength. I’m ready to swap my other truck, this thing drives better on 40’s then it does on 33’s

    What about the sway bar?

    • @Geeks4x4
      @Geeks4x4  Месяц назад

      It bolts in. You need the bar and bushing mounts from the 05. But I’m not running any sway bars.

      @@Geeks4x4 sweet that’s what I was figuring, I have a 2012 axle under mine

      You will see the tabs on the frame right behind the radiator. Did you add a tone ring for the Speedo? I was under the impression those years didn’t work because of that.

    Did you get the ABS working ok? I did the same swap, 2005 F-350 axle into my 2001 Excursion but the ABS light is on.

    • @Geeks4x4
      @Geeks4x4  8 месяцев назад +1

      For this build I didnt want the ABS working, so I actually removed the bulb... BUT according to everyone on the Excursion pages you can put the stock Excursion abs sensors into the 05 axle and that solves the ABS light 👌
