DRAMATIC wood & paint dresser makeover - FURNITURE FLIPPING

  • This dresser needed full refinishing, new drawer slides (which I make myself with a table saw and some scrap wood from furniture deconstruction), and hardware. I opted for a wood/paint combination, using a custom mixed stain and one of Fusion Mineral Paint's new colours, Chestler.
While it always pains me a little to paint over walnut (even if it's veneer), that was the vision I had for this piece, and I left a lot of the beautiful woodgrain showing.
I did add new legs and new hardware, though I went back and forth MANY times over my choices. In the end, I AM happy with it and, best of all, I'm going to be donating this piece to 10,000 Carrots Rabbit Rescue, the rescue I help out with and foster for, and we will be raffling tickets (local only, sorry!).
In addition, you'll see a bit of our brush with Hurricane Fiona, and Nacho's new sombrero. 😍

One of my favorite things to see you address is the stewardship of caring for what an owner may want to do with it down the road, and protecting the piece beyond your current transformation. It really speaks to the durability of quality furniture. Also, it lacks the vanity that is apparent in the way some people attempt to “salvage” a piece and potentially ruin it without knowing it.

She sealed it before painting! I love that! I was still doubtful but the paint turned out to really accent the beauty of the wood, & it's gorgeous.
I was rooting for the rounded drawer pulls & I'm so glad she chose them. They are absolutely perfect for that piece.

Angie, you are a wood savant. A wood whisperer. I’m convinced that you talk to these pieces and they tell you what they dream to be! Your knowledge of wood and the products that best work are just incredible. As for Nacho I feel so bad that he was so terrified in the hurricane! Lol. I’m glad y’all and safe and no big damage was done. I have family in Florida and it’s been quite the scare.

Every once in a while, if we get lucky, we find a animal, a precious pet, who just fits us and for whom we fit. Like mates...a fit. You and Nacho found that fit. Those precious times, when the fates brought you together, are some of the best memories. Your art and your pal, Nacho, are a delight to behold. My heart wept for your family when Muffin went off to search the universe. Time moves on and leaves us in its memory. Celebrate the time and memory! Lucky animals who found us and those we stumbled upon!

I normally hate to see lovely wood grain being painted instead of being brought up to its natural beauty, but with this piece you have created something very artistic. The painted parts break up the great expanse of wood and compliment it perfectly. The handles and legs are imaginative and make for great balance. Congratulations!

As a former neighbor (4yr old), would say 'that was a Hot Mess Express!'. (She didn't know what it meant, she just enjoyed the adult's reactions.) You transformed it into a classic piece. And your rabbit seems to find it acceptable - definitelya strong recommendation. The devastation from recent storms has been nasty. So thankful to know your damage was somewhat minor. It seems Taco knows how to remain stress-free during a storm - perform a horizontal hat dance. (All 4yrs of high school I tried to take Wood Shop classes. Females were not allowed. I graduated in 1968. I understand that restriction no longer exists.)

I was in the same restricted environment. Girls were not allowed past the sacred threshold of the woodshop, "boys only" allowed in the temple. I am 70 now, and learning about woodworking and refinishing. I have never used a table saw but sure would like to try it! I'm glad girls now have the opportunity to learn when they are young, it becomes so natural and there are more decades ahead in life to enjoy the plant life that supports our needs. I pray that trees are someday more respected for all they give us.

A cor escolhida é perfeita e o tom da madeira uma riqueza, os pés um glamour total e o coelho na gaveta um toque à mais...mas quem roubou a cena foi o Nacho dormindo de chapéu. Too bad, I have the handle you are missing. Mine was from Ontario along with other handles. People were just putting in the dumpster when I came along and had them bring it to my apt.
The top turned out to solid maple. Turned out beautiful. I left the drawers in natural maple and painted the sides because the bottom edges were very damaged. I kept original feet, just cutting 2 inches off the bottom. I love it. Im newly subscribed. So glad to find another great furniture refinisher, rather than someone who just paints over everything. I watch a friend from Estonia who is an old world furniture builder and refinisher.
He does furniture hundreds of years old and does such a very thorough job. I must say you do very fine work. You make me proud to be a wood working woman. Although I’m 73 and my healthy keeps me going slower than ever before, I have 4 more projects to do before I shuffle off this mortal coil. Love your music. Lived through the 60s and 70s myself, I can appreciate. Hint for great wood is to buy old oak table tops, kitchen table tops and legs. Anything that’s offered at really great prices is really worth having on hand to make new tops for dresses, drawer fronts, legs, aprons, etc. Great watching you. Bravo! Linda

Nacho approved it with his thumbs!! Gorgeous combination between the warm tones from the wood and the blue tones from the paint. Beautiful result as usual!

In my opinion, of all the RUclips furniture restoration people, you are the absolute best. Your attention to detail and care of the furniture is just amazing. I have a piece of furniture that I would love to have restored, but I simply do not trust anyone with it. If you I lived in my area, I would have you refinish it for me because you take such good care and do the absolute best job every single time! I love watching your videos!

What beautiful wood was underneath that chipped up, destroyed original finish. This video has it all: cat with a hat, bunny floofs in drawers, hurricane survival and a gorgeous rescued piece of furniture. Binge watching your videos since I discovered your channel and enjoying every one of them! Give little Nacho a tummy rub from me.
