@MajestikSkillz i think some of them had a issue with the wiring that made the gauges act funny. look it up or call your closest dodge shop and ask might even have been a recall. dont know if its this body style or the one after either cant hurt to check
Still got my 02 with the 5.9L.. What a Tank, thing is 22 years old and fires right up like a brand new car... well thats a lie, it fires up like a 360 V8 with an explosion of badass noises, where new cars sound like a tingy vaccuum cleaner under water.
Actually I am a general expert on Mopars I live and breath them, Early Hemi Engines & Magnum Engines are my specialty. Clearly you're either adding too much brake to your brake stands or your engine needs a damn tune up with properly routed plug wires to Mopars TSB to prevent crossfire & power loss or you need to get your PCM checked out. Any healthy magnum motor from 318,360 & 4.7 liter can bake tires with as little as 1/4 throttle & sometimes less depending on the time of day!.
Remember its not an explorer or expedition lol, durango's are surprisingly stable. I've had mine balance on 3 wheels off-road when starting down steep hills, not a single notion it was going to flip.
Dude my sisters 4.7 Durango will slide sideways with an abrupt 1/4 throttle and no brake. I found myself laying 5 feet of marks with just that taking off from the stop light one day on dry pavement!. My Ram with the 360 is very similar, bakes the tires with 1/4 throttle and goes nuts with half-3/4 throttle.
@MajestikSkillz no it didnt lose pressureduring that. maybe you got a bad pressure sensor or an electrical issue with the instrument cluster. then again it could be something with your oil pump or oil pan
You can flip anything if your enthusiastic enough. That being said, a suv roll over generally occurs when an excessive amount of grip on one side of the vehicle, which clearly not the car here, lol.
any truck is relatively easy to get and keep sideways since you really dont have any weight over the rear axle and most of the weight distributed up front
you would need half throttle or more to brake the tires loose if you are on dry pavement. maybe a little less if you had a truck. If you brake too much the rear brakes will engage too much and make it harder so just use as much as necessary.
Atleast they got some fun out of this perfectly fine vehicle that would have made a good family vehicle had the cash for clunkers program never been put into action before it got crushed into a square cube and melted down. :/
A good modern day family vehicle this does not make. 8 miles to the gallon, limited safety features, and at the age it's at; likely constant repairs. I know this, because I own one. Thanks to the Cash of Clunkers program (a voluntary one mind you) that family was given more money for a new vehicle and our auto industry was able to recover from the brink of bankruptcy.
I have to agree with you since my heat just stopped working and I have a p0601 ECM Failure and p0302 Miss-fire cylinder bank 2 code I can't seem to fix on my 01 5.9 awd rango. Nothing is reliable as my old 1952 dodge m-37 army truck. My mother has a 08 Cadillac sts that needed a trans last year it has 62k miles on it to date. I mean come on what is with the quality of cars now days?
cjhawk67 Quality of any modern car now a days? Depends on what shift was working when it was built;) No manufacturer is 100% reliable all the time every time to everyone. You speak of your cylinder misfire , my '99 I believe had that same problem. Cold engine starts it was fine, but get it running for about five minutes and it would to spit, sputter, and have no engine power what-so-ever. Did some digging and it turned out the whole ECM computer was shot. The local dealership wanted $600 dollars to replace it. A Google search found me a new computer for $150. Just had to give them the mileage (digital odometer) and that was it. No major problems to date but, the fenders, front bumper, and rocker panels have since rusted out. The transmission slips, and the rear axle is threatening suicide. But this is after 150,000+ miles.
nwvfd22 It runs fine but it shakes a slight bit while idling when you start it and even after its warm. The ecm keeps failing because it's in a bad spot. Where my dad lives I frequently drive through 3-4inch water/mud and I've had 2 ecms fail. As for the Missfire its a ghost It did it with the old ecm and the new ecm which now failed. I replaced the coil the pickup plugs wires cap and rotor tps iac and replaced the plenum gasket and plate with the hughes brand and it still has a slight shake 50-100rpm stutter on the rpm gauge but it tows my 3k trailer with my 6k mud truck no problem and takes off like a bat out of hell. It's at 155k miles and the trans does some weird stuff every once in awhile but it really was just a beater. I'm driving my 2wd 98 ram atm till i can fix the heat on the rango I hate driving this thing in winter with the salt its mint and only has 55k miles and those are all summer boat towing miles too. I have a black 97 ram but it's geared 4.56 and welded posi front and rear so it's not the best for on road especially with my pricey 35" tsl super swampers. I drive that thing on the road the posi will tear those tires up in no time so I'm stuck driving the only 2wd vehicle I have lol.
On another note they need to bring back solid beam front axles on suv's and trucks. I wouldn't mind if they did it with leaf springs either the coil setup rides nicer but they tend to get death wobble fairly often later in life where as leafs have the occasional sag over time but do a better job at keeping the axle centered.
@raineyj the one in my dads 03' explorer is a 289, or so I've been told. It's a 4.6 litre. I'm not sure if that's true, but even if it is as you say, then the dodge 4.7 still has to be more than those other guys were guessing at, I'm just sayin
And, they never made all three engines. At first it was the six, the 5.2 and the 5.9, and then (in 2001 I think) they changed it to the 4.7 instead of the 5.2 because it made the same power but got better milage, but still offered the 5.9 in the r/t. I don't know if the six was an option anymore, they didn't sell any of those. The 4.7 is the smallest 8 in these, and the hemi was only available in 2004's and up, with that whole redesign. They only came with 4.7's and 5.7's. I know that for a fact
awesome !! did you know that in a certain state they made these 2 door ? man i want one !!! put some nice rims and paint it black!! great burn out bro!!!
change the plenum gasket and give it a tune up, I'm a broke sob who spends all my money on beer and even I can afford to drive my 360/5.9 liter truck around ;-) With the plenum gasket out they eat gas, once fixed its pretty respectable for a bigger small block V8 on gas.
