In this episode we explore the intricate relationship between hormones, gut health, and functional medicine with certified functional medicine practitioner Rachel Scheer. Rachel sheds light on how hormonal fluctuations, particularly progesterone and estrogen, significantly impact women's gut health, often leading to symptoms like bloating, constipation, and IBS. We discuss the prevalence of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) in both men and women and the critical role of a balanced gut microbiome. Additionally, Rachel shares insights on the calming effects of progesterone, dubbing it "nature's valium" for its benefits on mental health.
Listen in as we journey through the essential elements of gut health, from the benefits of prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics to practical tips for nourishing a diverse microbiome. Rachel recounts a personal story of overcoming severe gut motility issues without undergoing colon removal, emphasizing the power of alternative healing strategies. We also examine how environmental toxins and nervous system imbalances, including stress from mold and heavy metals, can disrupt overall health and contribute to conditions like neuroinflammation and autoimmune diseases.
Discover the profound connection between stress, self-worth, and authenticity, particularly for high-achieving Type A personalities. Rachel emphasizes the importance of inner work and reconnecting with our true selves to address health imbalances effectively. We touch on the benefits of meditation timing, managing chronic stress, and functional medicine testing for optimal health. Wrapping up with a focus on men's health and testosterone optimization, we discuss the alarming decline in testosterone levels and the holistic approaches to improving hormonal health. Join us on this enlightening journey toward holistic well-being and self-healing.

I had a hard time watching your video as the editing was distracting. The almost constant frame changes was very annoying. The content was good.

Excellent information, yes I have over achieved myself almost into the grave. I now have Hashimoto’s, IBS, SIBO, and was always an anxious child. I had to self diagnose myself, and eventually my GP caught up, and thankfully RUclips functional medicine videos have led me into remission, after so many changes to my diet and lifestyle. I have a heightened nervous system response, and am working on control, I cry while watching movies and am quite an emotional human being. I can’t even tolerate caffeine at all.
One tip, do your best not to swear on a podcast, it can lose you credibility, and you deserve more, because your info was really great, thank you!
