There are two ways of looking at it. There was an article in The Guardian following the interaction which put it in a different light. Some of the criticism of Sunak on this occasion was unfair. Language is constantly changing, and most usually it's a result of subjective preferences, tastes and prejudices. Not that there's anything wrong with preferring 'borrowed' over 'lent'. At least I hope not, as I prefer that too. It's just that I don't think, and I hope you'll agree, that this particular hill isn't the one for someone who cares about language to die on.
