    I got a new baby grandaughter coming in April I got so many projects started but not finished. I must just sit and focus and work through them all one at a time. I did get one little dress finished today though. You have inspired me ❤

      Congratulations on the Grand Baby! I totally hear you - I sew for my little one mostly on the weekends, together with her (she's 5) and anything that needs a lot of concentration, or maybe a technique that I haven't done in a while and I just need an hour of total silence - I have to put it aside to finish up later. She is a great helper though - she cuts the paper pattern out after I am done drafting it. Her latest obsession is helping me ironing, which of course we need to be very careful about, but she loves it. I hope when Your Grand Baby is a bit older you will share many crafty memories :)

      Right? Me too! I spotted those buttons since the first episode, where I was doing decluttering, so I had my eye on them and then of course I forgot about them until I went to put the snaps BACK into the basket, and then the idea came to me. I did think to maybe leave them off, so that way the jacket goes with everything a bit easier, but I do think that the result is super cute! I am happy this video gave you a bit of motivation :)

    I have a random sewing question. I am making a wedding dress for a friend and I was wanting to add bishop sleeves to a strapless dress...do you have any suggestion on how to do that? I can't seem find a video that will show me how...thanks!

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  4 месяца назад

      You need support of some kind for the sleeve cap (top of the sleeve that will sit on the shoulder). You need 2 things - a bishop sleeve (you can draft your own or use one from pattern, you might need to adjust the top of it) and you can watch the summer top tutorial from my Sew Easy series - you will see the yellow and blue tops on the thumbnail. The the sleeve isn't held by a neckline and has elastic in it at the top - you can use that as a starting point for your project.

    What did you do in order to avoid splotches of dye on your fabrics. I tried to dye a few natural fabrics recently (a cotton blend, 100% rayon), and all of them came out with darker and lighter spots on the fabric. I followed the instructions on the bottle. I used Rit dye for natural fabrics and dyed the fabric manually. Do you have tips to avoid uneven dye uptake? Thanks!

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  4 месяца назад +1

      Great question...I have dyed in a pot/bucket with some great results and then a few times I did get splotches. I find that if your fabric has enough room to move and you keep stirring it = it gives a more even result. This time however I did use the washing machine method for the first time ever. I was paranoid, but the result is great. It did result in a full blown washing machine scrubbing session - that's something to keep in mind :)

    • @m.b.ortega544
      @m.b.ortega544 4 месяца назад

      @@ThoughtfulCreativity Thank you much for the reply! I did use a pot on the stove that I think might have been too small. I think I might have to use the washing machine too for an even result.

    • @doriscassan6996
      @doriscassan6996 4 месяца назад

      @@ThoughtfulCreativity On the same topic... do you use a fixative after you dye? I tried dying without it and the colour just washed out, thankfully it did not ruin anything else.

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  4 месяца назад +1

      I do not, but depending on what I dye I use I will use mordant. I have a video for fiber reactive ice dye and for onion skin/avocado dye and I used mordants there to lock in the color. The pink shirt that I wore at the beginning of this video is actually done with ice dye and I have washed it many times with other things - no color bleed and as you can see - the color iS BRIGHT! :) Then I also dyed a linen with Rit liquid dye a few years back and also made a pair of pants and those I wash very often and also, no color bleed. On the package of Rit Dye it does say what water temperature, and what to add if you dye wool, cotton, nylon and etc. I hope this helps!

  • @kristine2916

    I love your videos but this one was bit... strange. Yes, unfinished projects happen. If something does not fit just right or is very complicated or something else that takes time to sort out (like fixing mistake) it is totally understandable but to have in unfinished pile project that just misses buttons or top-stitch? For such an organized person like you? It is hard to believe for me and this episode looked kind of staged for me.

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  4 месяца назад

      Uhmmm... it might feel however it feels, but if you have seen the first episode and the second episode of this series - you saw me put stuff into this box and I clearly said I will be dealing with them later :) That white t-shirt has been on a dress form, I am sure it has been in the background in other videos, and in my sewing room with the topstitchigng missing for a bit, so was the jacket, I actually posted this sweet little jacket as a picture with extra tips and the inside construction for my Members about a month ago, with a note that I made bound insides because my little one would wake up from me using a serger, and that was when the schools were closed due to snow... so, now looking back - that's why I did not insert the snaps - because it is SUPER LOUD to do it and I needed to concentrate. The skirt was made last year, along with the Se Easy skirt tutorial... and I really don't know why I did not finish it. Videos take a lot of work, more than anyone can imagine, and I don't actually get much time for my personal "off-camera" sewing, and the time I get is very limited. Anyway, I am not here to explain myself. I am sorry if it looked staged to you... I guess I wish it was - would be less work for me, but isn't :)

    • @ThoughtfulCreativity
      @ThoughtfulCreativity  4 месяца назад

      On the same note - guess what - the jacket on the dress form, right behind me in this video - STILL NOT FINISHED! I said in the original video that I am thinking about adding tiny shoulder pads for the shoulders to hold shape better, so I left the center back of the lining basted together - guess what? I haven't had a SINGLE CHANGE to sit down and construct shoulder pads... sad, but that's the reality... and I completely forgot that it is unfinished. So yes, it happens :)
