Small heads up about base limit stretching, you'll have to do it all in one sitting. Once you log out, your base limit will be reverted back to normal and you won't be able to stretch it again. I've done this for some mega farms i've built to have 3 mining spots, a gas spot, and EMG. You gotta plan all this out and do it in one sitting or you'll lose your chance to do it. So be prepared to be building for potential a few hours, to get everything outside your limits, built.
@@WhiskyBarrelGaming np. Ive found it out the hard way when I tried to go back and add more that I couldn't. It sucked cause I couldn't keep adding to my A class Activated Indium spot but fortunately found another B class AI in my space to add to it.
You can still do it, you just have to re-stretch the build limit every time you leave the area. Building outside of the 300 limit doesn't add to your claim, it only extends where you can build while you're in that area. So every time you come back... you have to stretch it again.
If you ever get on the new capital of the Galactic Hub Eissentam in Survival I built a community base with either 5 or 6 hotspots. It has landing pads, refiners, a galactic trade terminal, and carbon planters, and also at least one biodome of every plantable in the game.
I found a really cool floating rock on an amazon-like planet, started building my base there before checking for hot-spots. Turns out there was a EMG, gas and mining hotspots all withing 4-500u
Another way to extend out is to daisy chain Batteries! I also take the SHORTEST ROUTE. This means tunneing THROUGH terrain to keep the distances short. On Hostile planets it also keeps you protected from weather and Sentinels! Each time you connect a new battery you can build from that spot up to 1000u. BUT the wire MUST BE LIVE so use some tempory power like the reactor so the line is always charged!
For solar farms, you can just build a cylindrical room and fill it to the top with solar panels and batteries. Put it on the outskirts of your base so you can load into your base with no glitchy, loud solar panel noises Run power from cylindrical room to a battery closer to your base for a nice power junction
This is great. I have found that half arches make great electricity pylons. You can stack them up in hilly terrain so the wire is level. Then you can us them to extend your build area towards the EMG generators. It's nice to see that you have quantified it for us. Thanks.
You can build a separate base for the generators if you want but you have to make sure you are building from the base you want to power. Look for the little 🔧 if you want to make sure.
I use the stone pillar thingie or half short walls. I experimented with the cylinders and they also work. For decoration I also use pipes that point directly to whatever is at the end of the line, while also popping a solar panel or battery on top of the cylinders. If I run a tube from a miner to a depot I run them over the pipes.
Knew I could extend and bring the wire, did not know you could use it for non electromagnetic hotspots.. thought they had to be in your base for the refiners so Awesome!
I've been able to extend older bases (from before the hotspots) to a hotspot using a flooring panel every 300u or so on Xbox One. On some I've not bothered if I don't need lots of power and just built a small power farm by digging a hole, then flatten a space, put the solar and batteries down, wiring them up then filling the hole back in. Solar still works underground! I actually hope they don't patch this in future or I'm gonna have to go digging! Your method here is better than what I've been doing and I will use it for future bases. Great video, well presented, not a wasted moment.
I just found a dope paradise moon! Has a huge planet to the left of it and in a short distance of space it has a Saturn looking planet with the rings, looks really cool. Just started setting up a small base there with some great views! The moon seems to have really long days and short nights, no bad weather, amazing sunsets! My main save alone has 400 hours. And I am always watching nms content on YT. HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS? Great video, useful info. And teaching me something I didn't know in this game. You earned the sub!
Great video! I will add a couple of notes that might help others - when you are placing the EMG, and you are looking for the spot with the strongest emanation of power, the measurement of distance is literally under your feet (not where you are pointing). So, if you are moving about, and you finally get the sweet spot, it is directly under you at that moment, and you can back off a few steps and drop the generator. Stacking more directly on top is a good idea too. 🙂 The other thing is - if the base extension isn't working out, you don't HAVE to put the EMG directly over the hotspot. You can place it relatively close and still generate power - albeit, much less, but I have seen it work fairly well if you have enough resources to build several.
Now we can pick up and move parts it's easier to find the middle of the hotspot. I just place down a square of four, then cluster them around the one with the highest reading.

While this method can work, nothing beats the non-stop reliability of solar and batteries. Extending the base seems to often result in glitches and stuff turning off in my experience.
If you build on extreme planets, the solar panels shut down during every storm. So not as sure fire reliable unless you build enough to charge up and run everything between storms and night cycles. Its very inefficient for activated metals, but on a regular planet, it'll work.

I make pylons from narrow walls to carry the pipes/wires. they look great & you can put lights on them to see at an instant if there's any issue with power. Plus I always wire the incoming power straight into a switch & battery so you can easily tell your power consumption.

I’ve been using cube frames to build pylons with a cuboid room at the top to anchor and distribute power while also extending base range. Works well and allows me to see the flow of power. Each pylon draws power though but if you’re generating enough you don’t really notice it. This way I get to leave them in place while having it make sense/look somewhat sensible. You just solved my problem! I am on a moon, it looks like a Paradise environment but its a "grassy one", S class activated indium yet no power endless power for at least 1000u. Now I have both!
YES. THIS. YES. thank you. Perfect. Now. Can this not require this, lmao, how you figured out, how todo this, without ripping out your hair is beyond me. But thank you.
OK lol so if you are having trouble with this like i was theres a way around. for me it wansnt extending the base but when I saved and reloaded back in my base was extended
started a new game since i havent played in a long time got a s class oxygen spot right next to a power spot was super nice since they made it i cant buy oxygen and i like that update cuz now i have to have a diff play style other that just buying and selling
Just started to play this a few weeks ago. I keep getting distracted by exploring Systems instead of building bases. However, a couple of days ago, I figured out I can build Pylons from the Power tower thingy. Couple of those blank Cuboid blocks stacked and a Battery on top. It actually looks ok (surprisingly) and if I decide I want to build other stuff near a Pylon then there's no power problems at all and connectivity isn't a pain in the arse. Just add a wire to the Battery on top and you're good.
Gosh I had to figure this out the hard way ages ago, wish someone had made as good a tutorial as this. For me it was serendipity that I found the scanner bit, heard the ting while it said out of range and decided to follow it, and bingo! The expansion I came across while making a base, then having issues building while outside the 300u in one direction while on another base I didn't. Nowadays I take such knowledge for granted and don't even thing about it, just do it. And yeah the game itself doesn't really tell you anything about it.
Not sure if you modded the game or where in creative mode but you can not run an electrical wiree the distance you showed. There has to be a battery or some sort of junction every 100 U or so.
Thank you very much for the help... I was using battery's to connect my power lines and I couldn't figure out why it wasn't powering. I even put down a base computer at both locations
From base computer, the limit is about 1000. The 2000 comes into play when connecting an EMG to a hotspot. If you place your base computer at the center point between those two, you can provide EMG power to that hotspot despite them being approximately 2000u away from one another. Hopefully that makes sense.
I've tried this many times on Xbox, never has worked for me. I just put a computer down within the limit of the hotspots, indium mine, Electro magnetic field.
Quick trouble shooting question : I am trying to compeat the industrial surveying task/quest. And i got very unlucy with the location of my first base meaning that i am on top of a gas or mineral spot but over 1,300 for any power hotspot. I will try the listing method. although i made a base at a different location(see below) and built an electromagentic generator directly on top of the hotspot i found. unfortinetly i can't see to get that to reguster with the quest, and i am still being insttructed to find a power hotspot and build on it. if anyone has any ideas of what the problem is please reply here. I am trying to compleat all secondary quests before i compelate The Purge. (sorry about the spelling and grammer quality. I have struggled with it my whole life. Numbers and enginering make perfect sense to me. Geometry and other sorts of math are just plain easy for me. ( i think in numbers pretty easily) Proper spelling and puncuation not so much.)
In would just delete the base that has the hotspot for it and just put a new base computer down and build an EMG again. You should get the milestone for that. Also keep in mind you cannot use an EMG which was built with one base to power another base.👍
To be honest with you I just tried your thing where it was under 300 U and I use batteries to try to transmit the power from the electromagnetic site to mineral extractors to try to get it up get dioxide out and it's not working at all
Been trying for the past 4+ hours to hook my oxygen farm up to my electromagnetic generators about 950u away, and I would've been there for another 4+ hours if it weren't for this video. Thanks a ton!
Just found A LOCATION with power hotspot a meneral hotspot and a gas hotspot all within 350 units of where i was standing I didn't know that was possible.
4.2u per second, so your 1626u approximation is really spot on. However, the farther away you get, the less accurate that approximation becomes, until you finally reach the maximum build limits. That being said, an Oxygen and Nitrogen farm is a pretty sweet idea. I personally would just stick with a Nitrogen farm, and make my own Oxygen by refining Nitrogen+Salt (Kelp Sac), Condensed Carbon, and local plant life (Cactus Flesh, Star Bulb, etc.) to get a 1:10 stack of Oxygen. The EMG is the best way to go. Sure it's a little more work tracking down a hotspot, and building back to your desired location, but as far as I'm concerned, the best use for a solar panel right now is pairing it with a power inverter to illuminate my base at night :P
Watched this video to see if it's what I do and sure enough it is lol pretty much all bases I have that aren't "place holding" outposts (in systems that have either upgrades for living ships, or s class derelict freighters, ect) have all 3 hot spots. Trickiest part is finding all s class hotspots around one base and my HQ has that lol
I pre-ordered No Man's Sky... I have over 1000 hours played... I have sought out numerous S-Class resource nodes. I have written posts on extending bases literally dozens of times.(Copy & Paste, I'm not an idiot) Never... Not once did I notice the change in sound from outside the Hotspot range. I'M SUCH AN IDIOT... Where was this channel... whenever resources were introduced... PS: go watch Whisky Barrel Gaming's NMS Web series: Handful of Cogs Now... why are you still here? Go!
I never thought about placing the bace computer in the middle between a hotspot and where I want my base. I have found a really nice spot. My only problem is there is no S Class EM hotspot. It’s a stupid C Class. Now I know I can stack generators and get more than enough power. I just was hoping there would be an S Class somewhere close
Why can I not get my head around this at all? It’s driving me absolutely nuts. I’ve been struggling for hours and hours and hours with the cartographers expedition. I didn’t think ahead and put my base computer miles from any hotspots. Now I have found a refiner spot but it won’t let me build an EMG about 300u from it???
Great video and I like the way you present it... you made it so you can understand it.... I though they took that away? cause I've trying that same trick and it doesn't work any more.... I will try it again... and one other thing I see that you still have the OLD BUILDING PARTS YOU USE TO BUILD LIKE, WOOD, METAL, CEMENT..... HOW??????? anyways thank you for you video , because you make your video easy to listen to I have subscribe , there aren't very many videos like this anymore... I pray that God will keep you and your family safe.... THANKS AGAIN... from Canada .....
When I try to extend my building range after toggling camera it does not let me move any further even after building a wall in or outside the build limit.
This issue ive always had with power spots further away is that after building and saving etc. Later on id come back and I wouldnt be able to connect new stiff to the power
Wires can stretch up to 200 so need to extend them. Then there are few other limits. Soft one is at your claim limit. Then the hard one, like X times further than the soft one, which just doesn't allow to build or do anything at all.
I set up solar on a 50k unit activated indium base. I didn't want to set up solar on the base beside it that had 96 extractors and 700k units of storage.
I found that after a certain amount of solar panels placed it severely impacts performance. First tried putting them away from the base but that didn't do any favours really, performance was still impacted and noticeably present as a problem, which is due to all the moving parts/animations of each panel operating every single one of them at the same time. Plus the EMG towers are more efficient and save vast expanses of space in comparison to an equivalent of solar panels and batteries, especially when you stack 5 or more towers on top of each other.
@@Mr_.G I definitely agree EMG towers are more efficient. The one's on the right are the way I build mine now. I don't know who the one's on the left belong to. They just appeared one day. i.imgur.com/9lSw4Bw.jpg
@@Mr_.G Well, if you get a kick out of optimized performance... sure, then that is an issue. I personally didnt really feel that I needed more performance out of my mining, i am rich there, and got full stocks on everything. Gratouitous levels of income seem easily accessible, for the less optimized loving people. Like my kick is more out of getting a nice location, rather then the best deposits. I ran some A class deposit, and it yielded me fine.

Building outside of the 300 limit doesn't add to your claim, it only extends where you can build while you're in that area.
So every time you come back... you have to stretch it again.

You just solved my problem! I am on a moon, it looks like a Paradise environment but its a "grassy one", S class activated indium yet no power endless power for at least 1000u. Now I have both!
that’s awesome - happy to help!
YES. THIS. YES. thank you. Perfect.
Great video and awesome base planing ! Will definitely try !
I distinctly remember being able to extend it using power cables when nms was like maybe a year old. I wonder if that still works.
Thanks Arturo ✌️
Not sure if you modded the game or where in creative mode but you can not run an electrical wiree the distance you showed. There has to be a battery or some sort of junction every 100 U or so.
Thank you very much for the help... I was using battery's to connect my power lines and I couldn't figure out why it wasn't powering. I even put down a base computer at both locations
The extension limit is 2000 units from the base? So it’s 300 units first then it extends to 1700 units? (I thought the limit was 1000)
From base computer, the limit is about 1000.
@@WhiskyBarrelGaming Thanks!
I THOUGHT WHEN IT MADE THE ''NO'' SOUND IT WAS SAYING ''LEFT''
Thanks man, you really helped me out. Liked and subscribed.
appreciate that! 🥃👊
Thanks! This was really useful information that I had no idea about.
Glad it was helpful!
For some reason whenever I leave the area of the generators all of my wires are deleted anyone know a fix?
Idk what I don’t but now my ping is going absolutely crazy 😅 1000 pings a second…still no hotspot
To be honest with you I just tried your thing where it was under 300 U and I use batteries to try to transmit the power from the electromagnetic site to mineral extractors to try to get it up get dioxide out and it's not working at all
Thanks for the info and what a classy way to say like and subscribe
Thanks Jeff - appreciate that!
Great Tutorial as always. Thanks!
Been trying for the past 4+ hours to hook my oxygen farm up to my electromagnetic generators about 950u away, and I would've been there for another 4+ hours if it weren't for this video. Thanks a ton!
Of course! Glad you got it worked out!
Good video! I have been doing this, but I didn’t know the building radius’s (not sure of the plural). Thank you very much!
Super useful. You're a god.
Just found A LOCATION with power hotspot a meneral hotspot and a gas hotspot all within 350 units of where i was standing
I didn't know that was possible.
Ha, anything is possible!
Great points Jonathan!
I have written posts on extending bases literally dozens of times.(Copy & Paste, I'm not an idiot)
Never... Not once did I notice the change in sound from outside the Hotspot range.
I'M SUCH AN IDIOT...
Where was this channel... whenever resources were introduced...
PS: go watch Whisky Barrel Gaming's NMS Web series: Handful of Cogs
Now... why are you still here? Go!
🙏 Very kind!
I don’t understand why it’s not as big as the bigger channels. This and Nolo Pada ❤
actually yopu are slightly wrong, you can use batteries to extend your build range, i use these as points to place silo's for mines too
What do you mean, extend your build range with batteries?
Great tips, thanks for sharing.
Great implementation tips!
Thank you, Chad! ✌️
Many thanks, Billy. Appreciate the subscribe and the well wishes!
Many Many thanks brother
Great guide .... really appreciate!
Thank you KAT! 😁
Great analysis and nice suggestions!
Appreciate it! 👊
Does this still work in 4.0?
Nice guide, thanks!
Anytime, glad it was helpful! 😁
Cheers for the tips. Subbed.
Thanks James 😁👊
Thanks for the video!
Wish i knew this before discovering a gas spot and EMG 650u away.... there was also some C mining spot close by
great information, thanks for sharing
When I try to extend my building range after toggling camera it does not let me move any further even after building a wall in or outside the build limit.
Save reload should work
Double press the build camera button twice fast every time u run into the border
This issue ive always had with power spots further away is that after building and saving etc. Later on id come back and I wouldnt be able to connect new stiff to the power
Can anybody help me? When i try to expand the base limit with walls it wont expand it at all
Man, ive tried everythng. The wire stays red. I dont quite get what your saying and ive got loke 400 hrs on this damn game
Wires can stretch up to 200 so need to extend them. Then there are few other limits. Soft one is at your claim limit. Then the hard one, like X times further than the soft one, which just doesn't allow to build or do anything at all.
I liked your video, it was difficult to find a good speaker with also good content 👍
Can you build multible base computers to connect to a base I already built 700u away from power generator?
No - but no need. Just extend current base to your EMG hotspot.
Solar farms are perfectly fine, you dont need EMG really. I never bother with it, if it aint there.
@@ice9ify. No, I meant PC Performance. Not production output.
