Setting up multiple outputs in Kontakt

- There’s a blurred line between feature packed and incomprehensible and I’ll leave you to decide which side of the line Kontakt sits on. However, there’s no denying that, whilst wanting to give users the freedom to configure the outputs from Kontakt in a way that suits their individual needs, NI could have set the default outputs from Kontakt more helpfully than a simple stereo pair to get you going. In this video, I look at the one time process for adding extra outputs and making multis in Kontakt come alive.

Dang, this was 8 years ago... I have been looking ALL OVER for this. Thanks a bunch!!
Thanku for keeping the 'It didn't save in there' exactly the same thing happened to me as I followed along! Excellent video. Have been looking for this information for hours and glad I came across this video. Thanks very much for your help :)
You have indeed made something ridiculously incomprehensible, finally, into something usable. I can't thank you enough! Whoever created Kontakt is truly evil, or has no experience with how actual signal flow works for audio professionals. Excellent tutorial!
Not knowing how to do all of what you explained in this video is literally the reason why I uninstalled Kontakt around 8 or 9 years ago lol…meanwhile this video was floating around that whole time! 😅
I randomly found the same old boxed copy of Kontakt 5 in my closet when cleaning my room a few days ago and not only did I get a bunch of free updates from throughout the years that I forgot about it, but there’s also WAY more easily accessible content regarding how to use the software lol.
Very thankful I held onto it….unknowingly anyways lol
Came for the tutorial, stayed for the relaxing voice. Instant asmr.
Wow thanks man that is what I've been looking hey stay blessed thumbs up for you.
I'm enjoying your videos, keep up the good work!
Thank you man. I was looking for it for 4h. Love you
Great video... thanks for this comprehensive info!
Paul, thank you very much! Awesome tutorial.
Thank you so much for this dude!!!! Happy 2020
Best Ever Instructions
Nice and helpful videos. I just wanted to point out that you can actually see your instrument outputs in the project window when you open the automation lanes.
That is one convoluted piece of software. Perhaps I'm not familiar enough with it yet. I hope that's what it is.
honestly because kontakt is so powerful they kinda had to compromise with some ease of access stuff but ull get used to it.
Thanksssss this help so much!
Youre a life saver.. thank you!
Thanks man! You really help me
tthhhaaaaannkkkkkk youuu ssoo ssoo sooo much brother it helped a lot now i can push my boundaries in kontakt
Thank you so very much !!!!
Many, many thanks!
Extremely helpful, but quite prolix.
Nevertheless, I thank you for your help, mate!
You made my day.... Love ya
Thank you... I think :)
Hi Thanks for this video. It's the best one I've found on the topic so far. I was just wondering why you started a new instance of Kontakt for the drum kit? Can you just use the initial instance of Kontakt for the drums as well? Thanks, Jeff
TRULY.......AWESOME INFO!!!!!.......LOOKS LIKE YOU "FINALLY" GOT 8PO!!!!!.....JUST KIDING!!!!......I "STILL" HAVE A WHILE TO GET MINE......SIGH!!!!......GRRRRRR.....
Thanks very helpful
Thank You!
Hi thanks so much for this tutorial, just a question I've velocity issue with Albion One and almost every library which has String on it Velocity just doesn't response to it's changes but it's OK with other library such as Una Corda, Piano in blue, how should I fix that?
Thanks!!!
Very helpful;
THANK YOU!!!!
hi thanks for info.
i deleted my output settings is there any why to restore it from backup?
where doese kontakt saves all output setting?
thanks.
Great thanks a lot

Thank you soooo very much, this was extremely useful!!
After everything is set up properly and I save the settings for the individual drums going to separate tracks, will it load again for different songs or do I have to assign each drum part to individual tracks every time I start a new project?
Tracks 1/2 3/4 all the way to 9/10 plays just fine. Any mixer outs beyond 9/10 play in mono. For example 11/12 13/14 15/16 all play in mono. Also instead of being through one mixer channel on FL Studio's mixer, it comes out 2!
I'm using the 16 out version to so I don't know what could be happening!
Does this process work for kontakt in its native state instead of as a plug in? I use it for live performances and I’ve trying to figure out how to rout outputs to channels 5 and 6 of my Playaudio 12
I bought a cubase 9.5 artist but I dont have kontakt 5 in there, can anyone help me with that??
Great!
Wondering if you can help me I’m having huge difficulties setting up my edrum kit with slate drums how do I make channels for each drum separate for instance I’m hitting my toms and 2 of them are making the exact same sound some how there not right
Ian Macrae I think you need to rename or select on different channels so your Tomms ch1 your cymbals ch2 etc try it
Get to it!!!
thanks !
Thank you for this tutorial. Unfortunately, the additional outputs I have created in Kontakt are not shown in Cubase if want to activate the new outputs there. But instaed of the new created stereo channels, I could activate 53 Mono Channels from the output section. This is very confusing me. Any idea what went wrong?
I have the same issue with Cubase as well. Standalone it works however.
Also having issues with cubase. Did you figure it out?
I know the video is a year old, but wanted to say WB = Wood Block :)
can you not layer the sounds so they all play at the same time?
About as clear as mud!
I'm working with kontakt 6 portable. When I open kontakt into the DAW (Cubase 5.5) I can add the 15 channels and conect them from Aux 1, save it as default, and everything is ok, but when initializing kontakt, the new chanels doesn't appear. I've tried to do the same in kontakt standalone mode, but Aux connections doesn't appear, only OUT 1 and OUT 2. Any suggestion, please? Thank you
2:20 the reason there isnt anymore predetermined "output channels"(*8 or 16) is so that you can choose how many you want now = up to 64
5:15) how to add more output channels
9:25) Troubleshooting, forgot to save
Thanks for the timestamps Gene!
TheHighlander no worries buddy~
Ok... great and all but how do we record midi on each individual rack?
Set up different MIDI tracks in your DAW that send to different channels (1-16) in an instance of Kontakt...real easy.
When you are assigning it to different outputs there is an arrow in the box to go to the next channel
Any reason why I would only see 2 channels on the dropdown when selecting outputs? I see you have a long list of channels but I only have two.
Danny Acuna same question
@@joshuaboazlam someone in an NI Instrument FB group suggested it might have to do with their latest update. I commented on an open thread in a NI Support thread and I'm waiting for their answer. They seem to be a little overwhelmed after Christmas at the moment.
True
Thanks so much for the tutorial - I don't know how I would ever figure out something so unintuitive as Kontakt otherwise. Who designs this NI stuff anyhow? Please take a look at every other plug-in to see how output assignments work. Kontakt intuitivity reminds me a lot of Maschine. (I think I know why!)
Wait a second - I'm an idiot. All you need to do is go into batch functions and select the right function. (Not a bad idea!) Guess I should have read the instructions! (Right.) Good job NI!
Aha! There's no stereo channel 1-2 to assign an output to in Kontakt they all start at 3-4. Genius!
Oh Yeah . . . that's the bus coming out of the plug-in. Ooops!
I did exactly same as you but my outputs start from 11/12 and not 1/2..
My kontakt looks different than yours. I don't have the same buttons at the top. I have much fewer. starting with a disk icon followed by the settings cog/gear icon
start in 5:20 the noise gate is annoying, thank you anyway
When the guy making the tutorial gets stuck ....
NI, help!
Noisebreathing af, cant unhear it
Your videos are very interesting, but... it looks like you do everything for first time. please prepare all you actions before you start to record. or cut all mistakes.
