  • We're cutting open and taking a look at some rocks we found on the Nooksack River in Washington State. We're new to identifying so any help is greatly appreciated 😊

Three nice pieces, but then again I am a sucker for anything with bands. Or facets. Or shiny. Or, well fine, rocks.
Going to be hounding up through Washington on the way to BC in a week. Will spend one day hiking around Swift and Rainbow creeks on the east side of Baker, but pondering some stops along the Nooksack as well. How far upstream on the Nooksack do you hound? Any suggested spots with access? Thanks!

haha, same! We're on the west side of the mountain and we just moved here in November so we don't know that many places, especially on the east side. We go out most weekends (when the weather is nice) looking for spots. There's a lot to be found if you drive alongside a river and pull off at creeks. You could spend a whole day at Swift creek and exploring the surrounding area! Take a spray bottle to check rocks while you walk because a lot of them are covered in dirt but there's some nice stuff out there. Have you read about finding crystals at Hansen creek? It's down and to the east of Seattle. That's on my list of places to check out. Safe travels and have fun!
edited to say Maple Falls is the furthest upstream we've gone hounding. That's a pretty area with potential.

@@thebroadhouse Sorry, no experience at Hansen. We're based out of Oregon and only hit the wet/North part of Washington once a year for this annual trip. Limited knowledge of your area.
Welcome to the PNW! Green things and rocks on the west side. Brown things and rocks on the east.
And for those who find this thread in the future, Swift and Rainbow creeks on the east side of Mt Baker. Mile and half hike from parking to their confluence. Moderate incline down going in. Trail is in good shape. Red jasper up the wazzu. Green. Some blue. Some agate. Tumbler size up to 'I am not packing that monster out'. At least what I saw on my first visit.
