Awhile back I went on a road trip with my wife's PHEV Pacifica which was awesome. EXCEPT having to go to gas stations. People occasionally spill gas or diesel, right where you need to stand to fill up. And using the credit card scanner sucks. Plus (believe it or not) When I fill up. I have to stand out in the cold windy gas station for a couple of minutes waiting, because you never know when the pump will disengage, and you need to restart it. Which can happen several times. And then there's the sketchy people hanging around wanting you to give them money. I really enjoy just plugging in my car at home and NEVER having to go to a gas station. Ever since I put in 220 charging at home, I haven't even needed to supercharge once.

I drove Lexus LS models for two decades, so my first Tesla was a 2021 Model S LR, and it was delightful. However, at this age, sedans require me to fall into and crawl out of them. Plus, my wife wanted to sit up higher, because she drove an SUV. So, we bought a 2022 Model Y LR, and never looked back. We traded some luxury for more fun! Furthermore, we gained ingress and egress comfort, the parking and maneuverability is superior, and the minimalistic interior style is our preference.

I bought my 2020 model x P used with 50k miles and bought a 3rd party extended warranty. The warranty was 2k and it’s already been reimbursed in repairs, door sensors, steering buttons, suspension, half shafts. I also had the car die and the HV battery had to be replaced, so make sure whatever you buy still has a battery warranty most importantly

Buying a Used EV Info: Charging overnight on 120V regular outlet gets you about 40 miles of added range. If you want to install a 240V outlet then overnight you can fully chanrge most batteries. Charging in the rain is no problem the car and charger do constant safety checks to make sure no one gets shocked (like a GFCI plug). Just traveling around town? Buy any EV they are all good. Traveling long distances often? Get an EV that can charge on the Tesla Supercharger network. Super road warrior? Get a Tesla for now. Maintenance is just tire rotation, tire replacement (me: ~45k miles) windshield washer fluid.

Range matters, but charging speed is overrated. My 2020 Bolt EV which charges at 50 kW max is fine for road trips. I drove it nearly 285 miles from my home near Athens to Stephen C. Foster State Park at the Okefenokee Swamp a couple of weeks ago. I charged to full overnight before leaving, spent half an hour charging to 80% while eating lunch after 130 miles and charged for another half hour to around 75% after another 108 miles, 45 miles from my destination. I arrived at the State Park with more than enough charge to get back to the second charging station. I could have spent less time charging and still have had plenty of range, but I'm generally very conservative.
Maybe I spent an extra 45 minutes on the trip compared with pumping gas, and I spent much of that time eating. The rest of the time I spent reading or roaming around the small town where I charged. I was on vacation anyway. The charging stops were no inconvenience at all, and I never use a public charging station except on long road trips, so I spend a lot less time fueling overall even while limited to 50 kW.
If you like kayaking or canoeing, camping in the Okefenokee Swamp is the adventure of a lifetime. It's the Appalachian Trail of paddling. I'm definitely going back later this year.

This is for Brandon - My wife's first Tesla was a 2016 Model S 90D. I talked her into it cause I wanted to use it but wasn't ready to give up my Corvette. She was commuting about 70 - 100 miles roundtrip per day. She considers a car a transportation appliance and says she would be more excited about a new refrigerator than a new car. Her first comment was "I'll never learn all this stuff. After a couple of weeks she started telling me different things the car could do. Then it was "it's just like an iPhone". JUST LIKE AN IPHONE!!! Then after a couple of months she came home and said "I could never go back to a regular car". The Model S is a great car. I've driven a Model 3 Performance but it just isn't the same. GOOD LUCK.......

EV Data Point: Driving an EV puts about $1000 back in my pocket each year. I mostly charge at home for 14 cents per kilowatt hour (my electricity cost). Gas is $3.50 per gallon in my area. To drive 15,000 miles a year cost me ~$700 in electricity and ~$1750 in gas for my two cars of similar size. That is an easy $1000 difference.

To make it look clean, I borrowed a conduit bender for 1 inch conduit and bought electrical wire from Home Depot. Had to drill a hole into main breaker box then the rest goes real fast. 2.5 hours later I am done. Costing only $250.00.

Initially had similar thought, but I do love the way it looks now personally, it took me some time to get used to the "blunt nosed soap bar" shape based on reveal pictures.
In person I actually ended up liking it, or maybe it grew on me, the pictures just didn't do it justice I thought. But looks are subjective anyway.
I do prefer the look of the Model 3 too though, and I had that one prior.
The main reason I moved from that to the Y was because I wanted more of that "mini camper" space in the back. Model Y's open glass dome shape is much more convenient for that purpose versus the 3's metal sedan trunk hitting your knees.
So from a practical angle the "chubbier" shape was worth it.

Buying a Used EV Data Point: Get in, read the battery charge % then read the battery charge miles then divide miles by the decimal equivalent of the percentage to know the full charge range (e.g. 80%, 228 miles thus 228/0.80=285 miles when full). Now decide if the current predicted range is far enough for you AND if the battery degradation is OK. If the EV has 15k miles or more on it, it has seen most the lifetime battery degradation it will experience.

Is Tesla changing their gig-casting strategy? TESLA LAID OFF A GOOD PORTION OF ESLA'S SUPERCHARGING STAFF? FSD isn't really Full Self Driving so don't get confused Tesla needs buttons to their infotainment system, especially if your left handed. There are some great 3rd party addons to compensate for the cost-driven center screen. Tesla's center screen is a great example of contradicting No part is the best part. The "S" compensation a bit with added functionality by using the scroll wheels. ENHANCE makes a center console dial with quick access buttons

My biggest fear is capacitive buttons. When there is cold outside like -20C then those buttons are usually not working has Tesla done something different or i miss something. When I leave car to my work place there is no plug and when I come back then -20C is not weather you drive without cloves on gas cars get warm like 15minutes heatpumps doesnt wokr well at -20C should i put climate controll on like 20minutes before or how it is done. I'm not native english speaker so voice controlls are off limit for me probably no voice controlls in decades since Tesla has not made even their website at my native language as 1/3 EU lanuages still missing. I have not a single official service station nor single Tesla native supercharger in my country. So to me is still like question why Tesla and not Hynday or Škoda yes Tesla is cheaper but not safer bet for me for first car in family it is not ok because of range and other issues and second car in family will be like 20k€ car Tesla is not offering or in my case I use Bolt Drive or Citybee service for daily commute. Tesla is not gloval company at all for me when i use like VW, Toyota or other car on minute rental service then my monhly bill is 300€ max but Tesla is like 600€ month. Those rental servixes are killed EVs because of price and people getting EVs as second car as first is now not an option when range has limitation below 800km -50% for cold climate since I still want to visit my mother at christmas when -25C outside. I'm still hopibg that new battery technologies are coming and supercharging is not needed at all so I get Tesla😂

    • @casperhansen826
      @casperhansen826 Месяц назад

      You should calculate it yourself:
Yearly mileage divided by the actual mpg multiplied by gas price that will give you the yearly gas cost
Yearly mileage divided by 3.5 miles per kWh multiplied by kWh price that will give you the yearly electricity cost
Then you just need to subtract those two from each other

Who cares about how the car looks? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You cannot say you are an EV sceptic and focus on how the car looks (unless you care about how an engine bay looks). The conversation should be on functionality and value. Someone who doesn't care about how Teslas look can still get other brands' EVs as long as the value is there. Now, if the title is "Can an EV skeptic be converted into a Tesla buyer" then you can talk about the looks all you want.

I bought our 2022 Tesla Model Y exactly 2 years ago
worst mistake of my 60 years of driving.
No other car manufacturer has ever screwed me as bad as Elon has - none even close.
That same exact car can be bought today, 2 years later, for $25,000 less.
So anyone thinking that an EV is a "great investment" - that's bullshit.
On top of that, I asked Tesla for a price quote yesterday and the car has lost 2/3 - 66% of its MSRP value
that's because Elon knows BEVs are dead and he's unloading them as fast as he can
and firing tens of thousands of his employees
    to keep afloat.
Elon you need to sell off a gigafactory and fire 25,000 more employees to do that.
You know Elon doesn't have his head on straight when he fired the ENTIRE supercharging decision.
You know the one that is now open to any EV and the lines now clog up and you could spend half a day charging u your Tesla.
    2 things killed BEVs:
    1) Range anxiety and lithium batteries are maxed out - the only way to improve range is to make the car smaller.
    2) Charging anxiety - where you spend time figuring out if the charging station you picked out is full and what the alternative is.
    3) A bonus - depreciation anxiety where 5 years later, your Tesla can be traded in for a small electric bike - if you are lucky.
And Elon fired the ENTIRE division that deals with charging anxiety. What a moron.
Buy a hybrid instead if you want to go electric - no range or charging anxiety.
but my advice is to just buy a gasoline car and wait 5 years and I'd bet you thank me....
