iirc people created dedicated discord server, mainly just to find all the "Face To Face" samples and (am not quite sure if it was them too) they found some "Too Long" ones on the way
I don’t know whether I’m more blown away at how Daft Punk found and chose all those samples for Face To Face, or how fans have managed to discover (heh) nearly all of them just from small snippets in the song
The ability to hear a 1sec part of a song and sampling it into another totally different song is what makes daft punk so unique. These guys were ahead of their time
I've seen the Face to Face samples be deconstructed a billion times, and it still never gets old. Also, I have to say they way you presented it was probably the best I've seen it done. Good job!
Face to Face has always been one of my favorite songs. Seeing how Daft Punk chopped it up and put it together makes me appreciate the song and their genius even more.
I like how so many 70s and 80s songs are used in this Considering discovery has a sort of nostalgic vibe which makes sense from the amount of samples It's likes a fading memory Truly great music artists
i'm just so obsessed with how many samples Face To Face uses... they took the term Plunderphonics and just went with it and what's crazier is that it's 2023 and we're still finding new discoveries (pun not intended) regarding which samples were used
For some songs you just need to say "ADD CRUNCHINESS" because the samples are crunchy in the songs But this literally blows my mind. 15 SAMPLES IN F2F???? I HOPE WERE DONE THIS IS CRAZYYYY
part of me wants to believe that crunchiness is from hardware limitations, but this was produced in the late 90s on pro gear, not an amiga home computer in the 80s. who knows, maybe that is how they got their start and liked how it sounded.
The thing with these Daft Punk sample videos is that they always make me want to listen to Discovery all over again. Great video, though. Really shows how genius this whole album is
This is totallyyyyy insane. Needs way more views. Perfect vid to show someone who says "anyone can sample" or "sampling isn't music". People say the same thing about Kanye West's music/sampling. Show them this and ask them if they can do the same thing. Many musicians might be able to play multiple instruments, but couldn't figure out how to chop bits of audio and songs up like this. Thanks for breaking the works of art down.
In the defense of such words, you gotta admit Daft Punk style of sampling and body of work is miles ahead of the average sample based songs you find in the so called "urban genres"
@@GabrielNardinMusicoh it is without a doubt, we are in agreement. I just think Kanye is probably the best to do it at the hip hop level. Daft Punk is an entirely different level that I haven't seen anyone come close to. Wish they'd put out another album
14:53 HOW YOU FIND THIS? I knew it had to be a sample cuz it sounds choppy, but it don't even sound like one. they manipulated it so much to the point it sounds like a synth with a weird effect over it. that's real impressive man
Impressive editing. You can see pacing issues and sometimes weird colour choice but knowing how hard it must have been to put together i'm really impressed.
Too long sample flip is most impressive to me, I understand it’s not as many samples to arrange as f2f but it has a better outcome. That final product is fucking incredible
Already an amazing album that I’ll now listen to again with much more of an appreciation of how much inspiration was behind it. Thank you and keep doing what you’re doing!
Daft punk are the only musicians that i think fully understood music and how it could be harnessed. The amount of samples that they used to create masterpieces, with some of these samples being seconds of a single line from songs decades prior is genuinely insane
the F2F samples are so complex and short that i wonder how some of them were even discovered. it's incredibly impressive and i absolutely love the sampling in F2F!!
i love so much Discovery, it's my favorite album of all time, it's great to see all the hard wok behind these masterpieces... anyway, any plans of making a Human After All or Random Acess Memories samples remake too?
If you told me to sample 20 different songs and create a beat as memorable as Face to Face, I don't think even if you give me a million years would I be able to rival or top it, it's that incredible.
I always found the Il maquillage Lady sample from Aerodynamic so satisfying when deconstructed. But my fav sample has to be the One Cold Vibe (Couldn't Dis Ya Boogie) from Too Long, very obscure and interesting. I legit listen to that section on loop, it's just too good, and then with Romanthony's vocals, it's just 👌imo
My only gripe is that nobody talks about the chop in the back half of Harder Better Faster Stronger!!! They'll cover the intro (which is slightly off in this video) but nobody covers the backbeat at the end
Man I tell yeah these are wonderful tracks to sample from. I know for a fact the duo had a blast making "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" and "Face to Face"
Amazing that ELO, Dan Fogleberg, Kenny and Dave Loggins helped create one of the songs on possibly the second best album made (after Prince's Sign O The Times).
You improved A LOT since the last time you've done these. There's some points I want to recall for you, so you can turn this video into the best of all ever existed. 1. Waveform view is awesome! However, seems to be that there's some rendition errors, as some of the waveform highlights show up as squares (or the waveform just doesn't show at all!!) 2. Sample timestamps The actual chops in One More Time are: intro chops are 2:21 then layered with 0:20 chops, and bass from 0:20 (according to ShadoXFM, aka @user-wb1tb1hu9d, which knows about the correct timestamps) There's an extra chop in High Life that plays right over the "strong" one. It's at 4:05 in Tavares song. The Dave Mason sample is not the very first beat, instead is the 3rd beat of the loop before the organ (0:02 timestamp for better explain) The Silence and I sample is actually at 5:24, is the 3rd time that line is said in Parson song. Also, you say that Lahaina Luna sample is used, in -4.25st, over Can't Get it Out Of My Head. Actually that was wrong all the time. This mistake was made always before people found out about that ELO sample being in the 2nd section. For better explaining, Can't Get It Out Of My Head plays alone in the 2nd section, without Lahaina Luna on top. (You can find that out by waveform/spectrum comparison)
Hello, I would like to point out that Lahaina Luna does not use two samples, rather the beginning sample being the beginning of Can't Get It Out Of My Head.
Fantastic video. Some constructive criticism, the video is nicely edited but just feels to dragged out and slow. I think this causes many people to just skip ahead to hear the next sample. You could easily reduce the length of this video by 5 minutes by shortening the pauses in between samples, which would greatly improve the viewing/listening experience, and it would keep people from losing attention. I just feel like I have to wait all the time. Other than that, great video.
Forgive me for F2F part so long, but they're 15 songs used 😅

They got the technique from Todd Edwards, who they featured on “Face to Face”.
