    Thank you for explaining this. I have my first poodle and have been debating what to tell my groomer about ear plucking. It doesn’t seem cruel at all. Better than having hair grow down the canal.

    Great tip about cupping the ears to create a channel. Thanks! Diamond's ears are similar to my boy doodle; and while he has fewer nodules than Diamond; his ears have deep fissures, and hence he requires a lot of cleaning maintenance. EcoEars is all natural so I can see why it would be a good choice.
    I was able to overcome yeast with my boy dog, but it isn't easy. He would have the same brown yeasty discharge as Diamond. This is what I did: I used Zymox Enzymatic Solution with Hydrocortizone (.5%) according to instructions. Buy the 1.5 oz bottle, and use all of it - again, according to instructions.
    Yeast came back a couple of weeks after the first round of action, and another round of Zymox eventually cleared out the last of yeast foothold. Even the vet sometimes cannot fix yeast problem in dogs; its tenacious once it has foothold! Flushing with Oxyfresh "Paws Down" is now working as a prophylaxis maintenance action. It's been over a year now, and no brown discharge. But if I get a whiff of smell - he immediately gets they Oxyfresh treatment. Oxyfresh isn't organic, but it is has prevented the return of yeast.
    Granted, I'm only a sample size of one, but procedure might work for Diamond, or your viewer's dogs as well - especially if they are desperate to eliminate a yeast foothold.

      Yeast and other skin conditions is related to diet as well. Diet and allergies…could be allergic to something in their food, or even grass…but regular grooming is mandatory for poodles and other dogs who have longer hair. Also supplements will help with coat/skin issues too…but once again…that’s all related to diet.

    I think those instrument you were talking about is called a hemostat
    (I am not quit sure) but they have a blunt end & they can grab the hair with no problem. You did a good job. I was surprised that you & the other lady were not wearing shoes in your shop.

      Clean first, and wait. That's young to have any real issue. You can try to pull the hair up and out, and scissor trim.....but I would not be plucking at this age

    My poodle grows lots of hair deep in the ear canal, however it doesn't come out easily like this. She yelps when you try to pluck it like if you pulled hair on her leg. I have started using my 10 blade while grooming to get as much air flow around the ear. She has ears like diamonds so have to be very careful. Is there anything else I can do to loosen that hair? I don't think she is just being a sook because you can see the skin pulling upwards.

    • @BigRockLabradoodles
      @BigRockLabradoodles  2 года назад

      Poodles have small ear canals and, yes, a lot of hair that grows down th3 ear cabal trapping large clumps of wax. My poodle is very difficult to pull, too. I use surgical gloves along with the plucking powder for extra grip. When I pull, I want to make sure I get it!! I get big globs of wax out of my poodle's ears...way more then my doodles. I pull, treat, pull, treat...good luck!!!
