Ive had my Sebenza for almost 20 years now. The only thing I had to replace was the little lanyard dongle. Its a great knife. I sometimes see people look down on S30V but remember, that was the #1 steel for many years and is still a great choice.
People look down on anything that’s not brand new anymore, there are so many great steels, some of my favorites are still 154cm, VG-10, and 14C28N. Stainless, easy to sharpen, hold a sharpe and fine edge for long enough.
NitroV has excellent edge retention on a twin grit edge. 320 on one side and 800/1000 on the other and it's edge retention is damn good. Some steels respond very well to duel grit edges and NitroV is one of them.
The Buck 110 is a tank and if you lose your boat anchor it’ll fill in for it in a pinch😆. Code 4 is nice but I’d have to go with the American Lawman. Nice list, thanks.
I had a Ruike p801 laser etched by DNA Lasering. They did an awesome Celtic Cross with Celtic Knot back ground pattern on it. That gave it some grip. It's kind of slick when it's plain. Awesome knife that now looks awesome as well. Got pictures of it on my IG if anyone wants to see it. They do a really good job and offer several patterns they can engrave.
I’ve been thinking of getting one of those Timbo! Awesome designs and for $75 including the knife isn’t bad at all. Glad to hear you like it. I want a Star Wars one or the Plague Doctor and they are on sale right now for $71.
@@BrandonGavin_EDC I can definitely recommend it my friend! They do a good job with it, and it does add grip to what is a good knife, but can be a bit slippy in the hand. I really like it quite a bit!
Another amazing list Jay! My absolute favorite beater knife if the Cold Steel Tuff Lite. I know my Sabenza will be around well past the end of my time.
Great list Jay! I think my version would have included one of the Demko Cold Steel designs.... AD-10 or AD-15 in S35VN. I think an AD-10 would outlast not only me, but my grandkids as well, lol
See all the knowledge one can gain by surfing and watching reviews . I was looking for ch3504 with the skull and they wanted $180 !!!! Another website had them for $140 !
Great video Jay! Love the multiple knives theme! On this list I have the Ruike P801 and the Civivi Nox. I would have to add from my small collection the Harnds Warrior and the Cold Steel SR1Lite!
I'm lusting after a Sebenza someday, and a 21 would be fine- but I really think the insingo blade would be more useful in a wider array of senarios, as it makes the use of the tip possible if you want to bear down on it easier. My latest acquisition arrived today and that was a Hinderer 3 inch xm slippy. I would have loved to go for a used Sebenza, but with our knife laws (UK- which means less than 3 inches and non locking), I decided to go for something I won't get arrested for if I'm stopped for some reason! Have you tried the insingo blade and if so how does it compare for you in daily use? I've been binge watching your videos lately-and you're doing a cracking job! Also, keep bringing us the new Kizers as they are knocking it out of the park this year imo. All the best, Jim (from across the pond!)

Or was the steak at restaurant well done - no matter you ordered it medium 😉 Oh, btw: I have Strike. In fact 2: drop point and tanto half serrated. Great knives!
Just got the mini sheepdog in Micarta with cpm-10v and I'm hooked! I'm planning on getting the large in titanium with 3v and the xl in Micarta with 154cm(unless they release the xl in an exclusive steel!!)
My favorite beater knife is the Spyderco Delica with a full flat grind. My current carry is k390 which is not easy to sharpen but once sharpened, easy to maintain. My VG10 versions were easy to sharpen and kept an edge long enough. Back locks are not sexy, but they’re consistent and virtually bomb proof. I know their new pricing puts it out of the best bang for you buck category, but it’s will remain the knife I favor.
Excellent point and very well said. I agree, back locks are great and I love K390, it's an impressive steel. I have the Stretch 2 and Endela in K390, I need to get the Delica and Endura in it too.
Carried one for many years, sometimes alternating with an Endura. I recently got an Endela in K390 and find it the perfect all-around size. You may want to give it a whirl.
Yeah, I know what you mean. It is an expensive knife to carry around and use everyday, but it can definitely handle it. And if something breaks, it's comforting to know that they can service it. Thanks Harry!
I want to get one of those new Buck Hunter Pros, look closer to the original but a lot less weight and great micarta and S30V. Also love the TRX Pro for the lightweight feel of it.
Yeah, I think that's exactly why I like this one the most. I've tried both the Sport and TRX models, I like the Sport more because the handle feels and looks like the original.
I m one of the stroppers. Keeps an edge sharp. I also like polishing some metals. Stropping is the ticket for me . Adimante coming in today with a stream light flashlight . Going to that while next buy
I bought a Buck 112 Slim TRX, I was disappointed & sent it back to Buck. The action is worse than my 50 yr. old 110. What's your opinion of the Slim TRX?
Yep, I have the TRX and it's not breaking in like I thought it would. It's also developed some blade play that I can't get rid of. I like the Sport way more. The action is breaking in with zero blade play.
Hi Jay and thanks for the great video...really like that Gerber Gator sweet looking knife. I was just going thru my knives today to see what to carry and came across my Ganzos f753m1 they look like mini griptilian and it's not that bad for budget but I still carry my benchmade s daily. Take it easy.
Hi Jay, great list as usual. The Sebenza is on my list but my budget is scarce. There are so many awesome knives that I like that it is difficult to be focused 😊
Will a Sebenza last a lifetime? Yes. BUT it is way, way over priced for what it is. I have a couple in my collection 'just because' but never have and never will carry them. They feel like bricks in the hand. The large one is too big to be politically correct and the small one is too small. For less than half the price, pick up a used Spyderco Sage 2. Every bit as smooth, easier to open and ergonomic to a fault. Or, failing that, most any Two Sun titanium frame lock with a good blade steel with be a quarter of a Sebenza with the same durability.
Hey thanks Daniel! That Sebenza is one of the very few knives I have in that price range. It's one of those knives I had to try since I have a RUclips channel.
@@lenzielenski3276 I agree, but I'm in love with the Sebensa large even though I know that is similar to purchase a Ferrari as transport for the farm. That is why I haven't purchased one yet. Meanwhile I prefer a good Twosun as you mentioned, thanks!

Has anyone ever tried wrapping 1,000- 3,000 grit around a 2x4 scrap piece and sharpening that way like a strop ( pull away from the blade ) . It works well if you were looking at some expensive piece sharpening equipment look no further than to buy a multipack of good sandpaper and have at it . For me this has worked really well when needed but usually just stropping will keep a sharp blade where I like it . I did it with an old buck hunter and brought it back to life . The blade turned out so good I ended up taking off the handles and polishing the whole thing except for the edge and point .
You can definitely do edge leading strokes when sharpening with sandpaper, not sure why you wouldn't. I have tons of high end sharpening stones but still use sandpaper quite a bit. Wrapping some around a dowel is a good way to sharpen recurves, or serrated blades. Gator (I think is the brand) makes some decent quality ceramic sandpaper that I like to use when reprofiling ultra high carbide steels.
@@CNYKnifeNerd thanks for the advice . I ll check out the ceramic paper . Yeah I like using sand paper to get a uniform apex . I found I was skipping past that part and I think that was the problem because after using a magnifying glass I see the error . Cheers to learning new things .
At the Bass Pro shop in Concord, N.C. they had the Buck 110 in a clear plastic package out on the floor in a big box. There must of been several hundred of them at a price of $19.99 with no sheath. That was over ten years ago but that would've been a good investment if someone had known that they would be selling for $60.00 @ WAL-MART now.
I think people tend to underestimate the durability of g10. I’ve watched a video of a man hammer an uncut rectangular g10 handle slab through a 2x4 plank. The g10 was around 3/8” to 1/4” thick. It’s so rigid, you don’t really need liners on your knife.

If they take that, I won't sweat it (watching them cut themselves might be entertaining; I'll warn them of course). Today I went for breakfast with some very old friends and brought an AO Old Timer; I almost pray they will confiscate that hunk a junk, it will not hold an edge very long. Yeah, I have one of those vintage Old Timers back when it was still USA made. Mine has the same problem as yours, it doesn't hold an edge very long. Those things sure do age well though, the brass bolsters develop a nice patina.
