If BRICs succeeds or not, credit must be given credit for trying to unshackle themselves from the legacy of subjugation and disrespect. The definition and comparison of BRICS plus is disorganized in the report. Remember, the G7 dominated global economics goods and service trade prior to the 2008 WFC ("Western" Financial Crisis). When the G20 was formed in 2009 with the G7 and new middle income countries including the five BRICS countries, and the EU. It is because, the G7 needed the participation and coordination of the G20 to resolve the Global economics contraction at the time.
When BRICS was formed in 2011 (per the report) as an alternative grouping, it is because the five countries could not affect change to the trade mechanism/Institutions within the G20 due to US and EU control, resistance and dominance of the banking function. If the OECD is courting Indonesia to join it instead of BRICS+, then the comparison mean it should be an economic forum (WTO) and not a political forum (i.e. the UNGA). India, China, Russia and Brazil have "bilateral" and domestic geopolitical issues that are separate from the "multilateral" BRICS+ function.
BRICS+ primary purposes are to facilitate the Energy, Commodities and Merchandise trade among the five and new members countries Iran, UAE, Egypt, and Ethiopia. Thailand and Malaysia submission of interest, reveal they view it as their "National Interests" to participate in the multilateral forum. The more members to join the less influence and control will be dependent on the larger member countries such as China and India as their weighting reduces. The weaponization of SWIFT and politicization of the US Dollar via US MNC Banks will result in BRICS+ countries avoiding the structural problem of dependent on a centralize common currency. Hence, there will be currencies swap agreements and multiple Reserves at the Central Banks to facilitate the payment of regional/global trade among the member countries. Consequently, the BRICS+ are setting up alternatives to the US dominated and control International Institutions because using economics tools to settle political disputes are ineffective in the long horizon and illegal within International Laws.

While i think BRICS will be beneficial to the countries involved economically and politically, I prefer to be realistic and look at statistics. BRICS in 2023 (27.6 trillions), accounts for 26.3% of the world's GDP, while US alone (27.36 trillions) accounts for 25.95% of the world's GDP. G7 (46.3 trillions) accounts for 46% of the world's GDP so BRICS can't really compete directly with G7 (It's call seven of the world's largest advanced economy for a reason). Remember US is top trading partner to many countries including China with China exporting 501.22 billion to US and US exporting 147.81 billions to China. The fact remains, as long as US trade with these countries, they will trade in USD, and not to mention many US allies are wealthy countries that have no intention of moving away from USD. while there have been efforts to move away from the dollar by certain countries for different reasons, BRICS still do not have their own currency and will likely to remain so as agreeing on a common currency means countries giving up on their own monetary policy. An example is Greece, with the loss of monetary policy control such as adjusting interest rate or printing money, Greece cannot devalue its currency to make export cheaper to boost economy nor can Greece inflate away its debt by printing money. US dollar will remain the dominant currency for the foreseeable future follow by Euro.

Indonesia's thinking that BRICS is being swayed by China is totally a slippery argument. In fact, I would like to see a world that brings all nations to work together for all humanity. Also by bringing more countries into the block, I believe Chinese influence (whatever that is) would grow weaker. Long live BRICS+

Africa is still struggling with power shortages, bread shortages, wheat, living with 80 dollars a month, while you have a much higher quality of life elsewhere in the world, when I went to Turkey in 2010, I was surprised by the quality of their transportation, their roads, their bright streets, the quality of life there.

@Rumble2024injungle it is also up to us, africans, to ask oursleves why our countries are so ill managed and in chaotic shapes. In Algeria for instance, housing is so expensive that you may, if you are lucky, get a public subsidize flat (with an abysmal quality) after an average waiting of... 25 years. Don't even dream about buying your house, it is impossible. Cars are impossible to buy, it will request you 10 years of salary to buy a 5 year old car that has circulated 400k. And I don't even talk about the worst part : job crisis, with 70% of young Algerians unemployed and thus having 0 revenues, those who are getting 100$ a month are the privileged ones.
I dont talk about water shortages or drug shortages or Internet that is of poor quality. And let's face it, a lot of African countries are poorly managed, and Algeria and Erythrea are I think the worst in Africa. That being sad, if we are intellectually sane, we can ask ourselves why, and how we can change that, china had the same political architecture then Algeria, with a communist party ruling the economy, I still wonder to this day why cuba, Algeria, and others failed in an abject failure, while Vietnam, China, and others succeeded with that same architecture of a communist party overruling the country

If Indonesia doesn't want to join brics now, she will ask to join later. Indonesia will run into the same India/Iran trade problem when US puts sanction on a country that has good trade relationship with Indonesia. China will be a big economic power house but not a military power house. Russia will be a military power house. Malaysia is doing the right thing and smart enough to join the brics. Brics is for trading only not for war and no sanction on trade.

As long as countries like the UAE and India are part of BRICS+, the organization will never be anti-West. BRICS primary objective was to provide a successful altermative platform to the G7 an in that regard it has been successful. The New Development Bank, founded by BRICS, has also been quite the success. Now the goals of BRICS or BRICS+ have to evolve to solve the main problem in the world today which is the Western monopoly of global financial infrastructure. Hopefully, the upcoming summit will address this issue properly.
