Seeing Irix lenses taking the spotlight on the newest Black Magic camera fills me with genuine pride! Your trust in Irix's capabilities and your appreciation of their unique qualities mean the world to us!
I actually really like the new pyxis body. I wish it was slightly smaller, but in terms of design, it's great for me. I just wish they made a s35 6k or 12k version. I just like the footage off those sensors more than the ff 6k.
The Ursa 6K broadcast. Same pocket 6k sensor, with all the bells and whistles of the bigger cam. Slightly larger than the Pyxis body but you get even more usability.
It is insane to me how so many people are glazing over the Easy Rig's boom rig, without showing any features or how groundbreaking it is in design, simplicity, and reliability. I am not even a sound person but come on....
while this is true, with the shown design it appears that the mounts are capable of being swapped out, and I'm sure some creative third parties will offer solutions to this problem if Blackmagic doesn't.
@@8lec_R so you're going to buy a second Pyxis just to unscrew the mount of the second pyxis you bought and put it onto the first pyxis you bought? Because blackmagic aint making separate mounts to buy like they do for the ursa line lol
I find the Pyxis screen position rather well designed from Blackmagic. From my experience shooting long concerts and docs with the 6K Pro, the screen on the back was completely obsolete mounted on a shoulder, and way too low on a waist level. I would use a monitor arm in both cases to bring the monitor to my desired position and height. So at that point saving space and money on a built in settings/control screen makes a lot of sense.
Regarding the Pyxis side screen. Handheld, what’s the big deal? Fold out screens add weight, bulk, and a major additional failure point especially for a screen that large. Instead, you cradle the camera in your arm and have a big screen on a firm foundation that’s easy to tap-as compared with so many flippy screens that as you tap, the camera twists in your hand and some taps don’t register. It’s an even better arrangement for shoulder rigs. But on sticks a bit of a mixed bag. If you’re working down low then crouching to make changes could get a little tough on the knees and back. Which is why I anticipate BM releasing a control screen of some kind to run off the USB-C port. Then a lot of the issues completely go away. Oh and on a gimbal it’s only a problem when you mount vertical. Otherwise the screen is very accessible and taps on the side of the camera are less likely to unbalance the gimbal while on. Steadicam? Well that’s where an external control monitor would be essential.
Thanks CVP! It’s wild how many new lenses are coming out. Especially the ones that are small and have a fast t stop, it’s like they’re defying physics. I’ve never seen lens designs, this compact that allow this much light through! Does anyone actually check that their light transmission levels are what they say they are?

You missed the C500 mark 3 from canon? and wheres the C70 mark 2 with full frame sensor? 😅 I mean that lens could not be the only thing from Canon at NAB right?
The year is 2024, and after being in the evolution from DV tape DVX100B, HDV and the XHA1 with a Letus adapter, to 5D, XF100, to RED and Alexa, to C300, FS7, and FX6, now I want is a solid camcorder again. Pretty disappointed that we didn’t see a new Sony camcorder to compete with the XF605. No, I don’t want to buy a 6-8 year old Sony Z90/190/280 camcorder with no touch focus. That would be silly. I’ll probably get The XF605, but come on Sony, don’t abandon the camcorders all together!
Very cute video, with some good learnings (if you know where to look and listen). Keep it up. This video could have been so much longer I guess with ease :)
That 17k can finally come close to 70mm imax not quite but still far far better than other digital solutions that were available until now from arri & panavision
I would love a review of the viltrox anamorphics (if possible including the 25mm & 100mm) since I feel they really are quite interesting lenses. Anamorphic and yet relatively clean regarding CA, „only“ 1.33x yet more anamorphic character than one would expect and not that expensive. I guess this are the first clean anamorphics wich I find quite appealing for some use cases. Really something else. Great content as always!
I've seen many claim that the power connector for the PYXIS camera is the same of previous BM Cinema Cameras. Furthermore on the BH listing for the Blackmagic Design 12V Power Supply for Pocket Cinema Camera 4K (30W) claims to have compatibility with the PYXIS. Although I have noticed that based on photos and videos of the PYXIS the locking lug on the PYXIS is in-line with the pins whereas previous connectors, the Pocket 4K for example, the locking lug is perpendicular to the pins. Furthermore I've noticed that the end of the older cinema camera power adapter cord is female, but the power input on the PYXIS itself is female too. Does this mean the PYXIS will have a new power connector type?
If Cobra 3 Stike isn't priced too high, it would be a perfect monopod for me. Has been using Cobra 3 for half a year and every shoot got me thinking "if only it had a one lock height adjustment".
I dunno - overall - I think we have a lot more on the horizon. How about a head mount camera, and a VR interface The head mount camera could swivel around controllable by the user in their VR interface. Camera's up on top. Perhaps the mount connects to the VR headset in some manner.
No other box camera has a built in viewing monitor. the pyxis screen is just for settings and viewing the recorded clips or when applicable for anyone to look at the video. The idea of a side monitor like a camcorder was not part of the plan. it was just a little extra that has backfired for some wannabe users , maybe as an excuse foe not being able to purchase it. @Chris-ee5bg not what I said at all. I don't get why people dog a company like Blackmagic that has a better raw for not putting an inferior codex on their camera. One that would also take people away from their software. I can shoot in just about everything but prores, and that is by choice. I don't use Atamos because they record with it. I moved away from Mac computers decades ago and have been far happier since. I mean if I were to shoot on it, that limits my options to buying a Mac and using their Final Cut software that is so far behind the completion or Adobe Premiere, and we all know that suit is losing customers everyday. So I shoot with a plethora of cameras based on the shoot and use DiVinci Resolve becuse it works with everything but prores, and it works on all kinds of hardware and OSs. SO, I reiterate, why do people complain that something like a BM camera doesn't use the most outdated and least supported raw codex? Lots of others that work better and are supported better available.
@billyoung9538 pretty much. I am also tired of people reviewing a camera like something from BM and complaining they don't offer prores as an option. Why would they? RED bent the knee 9 years ago and I don't know personally anyone that shoots on RED and uses prores. Nikon did too. I would love both of them, now they are one company to drop prores and offer Braw and or Cinema DNG.

Readout for the PYXIS/CC6K is perfectly adequate in the 4-perf Super35 mode - as long as users can get over the “full-frame is more cinematic” snake oil. @@8lec_R just look up rolling shutter compensation and whatever software you're using. Earliest I remember seeing it was from foundry about 13 years ago. But you've even been able to add it in premiere since around cs6
@@Jwats96 One example that you could have different examples of shots for. Basically a static shot with something moving fast through the frame. Well, yeah, that would be expensive potentially. If your working on your own project you either do it yourself or you don't have something fast move through your static shot. Or you buy/rent a global shutter camera for that specific shot, which then we're back to the expense right?
