This was really helpful! I just had the opportunity to play Black Plague for the first time this week and that was also my first entry into the Zombicide system. With the new White Death on KS today I've been wondering if I would rather have Green Horde or not and this makes the decision a lot easier. Thanks!
@@JohnSmith-kf8mv I ended up getting Green Horde and will likely back White Death in the pm. I felt it was different enough and I really liked the theme with the orcs. White Death is a bit of a guilty choice because you really don't need more than one Zombicide but you get a lot extra and the mechanics seemed more interesting in WD. Plus there's a shogun ninja turtle expansion, lol. That and the core is all I plan to back though.
I Kickstarted Green Horde and not Black Plague. Keeping the rules the way they are and no modifying and only considering the core boxes, I would keep Black Plague as it stands right now after playing all 10 quests of Black Plague and only Quest 1 of Green Horde. I very much enjoyed the one quest of Green Horde I played so far, but aesthetically I have to go with Black Plague even though it is easy and Green Horde is noticeably way harder. The town setting and vault rooms are preferable to the fields and gimmicks of GH. And of course BP has the proper zombies, where zombie orcs are uncommon as a theme. Survivors have 3 wounds where in GH it can be easily 1 hit kills, so hp is almost none existent there, but does make the game more tense. Both are great anyway but Sam is right, GH would be too convoluted to introduce to friends that are beginners, more for your advanced gaming group.
I have Green Horde but don't own Black Plague but watched a few playthrough. I reckon GH offers more as the horde and strength of the orcs deals with the camping for loot. I see comments about the trebuchet but it's a catch 22 in that you have it sit there, and that player can power through the levels that much faster it poses a risk. I would buy this one and then the black plague tiles as an add-on . I think this one might not mesh with Wulfzburg tho.
Nice Review! I did like the new "expansion". The new mechanics made it worth. The minis are cool :) I also agree that the runners are hard to distinguish. I had that problem while playing. Now I'm looking forward to play more times and wait for the expansions :)
I finished to play all the missions and I am a bit disapointed by the game, the trebuchet is nice in the beginning but it means 1 or more heroes just spend their game just doing that, so they power through the levels and dont get object and their extra actions with new levels become useles. Due to the hedges and waterholes you lose too much time to replace the heroes at the trebuchet. Your game depends too greatly on the enter the horde cards, and runners in the horde quickly become untouchable because you have to kill the orcs and fattys first due to targetting order. After that you run out of runners so the ones on the board get extra turns and you die. I have the feeling that the other versions of the game were much more balanced :p
@Sam, you keep saying it's a great expansion. But you never really mention what it does for BP. Are there any power creep issues? Can you mix the zombie/weapon decks? Are there any "cross-over" scenarios included?
Sam here...I mentioned more than once that you can combine the two. I believe the scenarios included in the book are not "cross-overs", but meant to be played with the stand-alone stuff. All the card backs are the same, and can be mixed and matched. Personally, this isn't a game for which I concern myself with power creep, as it is designed to be as hard or easy as the players want.
Did they ever come out with the plastic tokens for the Green Horde? I've not been able to find anything on them. Great unboxing and review. I really like how you compared this and Black Plague.
I'm new to Zombicide and I'm trying to figure out which one to pick up. Visually I'm most drawn to this one. The green minis, the boards, gorgeous! But I hear you saying this one is not te best to get when you're new. I'd love to hear from other players in the comments. Should I get this one, or would you advise another version, and which one/
I backed GH but was stunned by the speed of how quickly CMON launched the next Zombicide game in the series...I'll be honest it kind of felt like a cheap shot and I felt like I'd been taken advantage of. It was almost like the had the plans for the next Zombicide already drafted and they were waiting on the KS trigger...
xGarrettThiefx finance a project and then they give in one more.... soon CMON will digiEvolve into something more interesting... thats merchandising .... just wait two years before financing them again..... they will fail or throw up the better stuff we don't know anything about ...
This looks good, but for the price point ($85 - $100 USD) not sure it's worth adding or replacing Black Plague... Unless you're a die hard Zombicide fan seems like a pass to me.
After all, for someone who already is very familiar to Zombicide games, would you say its a good game to get if i do not have BP? I dont want to have both. What would you say about it since this was the newer one and it seems to me it has a little more cooler stuff then BP
Regarding the video quality... If you're going to cut / edit 3 times in first minute of speaking, why not just re-shoot until you get the intro right? Just sayin'
10-4, i know this isn't a hollywood film or something, just wanted to provide some constructive criticism... Overall the review was very good and I gave it a like, the intro just surprised me with that. Thanks Sam!
I would disagree with the critsizim of the goblin runners. Sure they aren't as obvious as the human runners but let's be honest, everyone is going to paint thier models. Use different skin tones, a clothing colour choice, paint the rims of the bases.
I know because people share images of painted minis for CMON games such as this on boards and social media that people think "everyone" paints their sets...the truth is that a small minority actually do.
Now I will admit my bias as a hobbiest. But frankly if you are going to purchase a very expensive board game with the better half of 100 miniatures. All of which are finely detailed and screaming, begging to be painted. And then not paint them, even poorly is just lazy. I merely feel the criticism of the golbin runners pose being to static and hard to see in a crowd is more of a nitpick than a legitimate criticism and is easily fixed.
The barriers and hedges give a tower defence feeling
Totally agree about the runners. It can be hard to tell the difference when they are all bunched together.
I painted the edge of my black plague set which helps identify the minis. I would do the same for this if I buy it. Good review.
A nice view of components by the way! I enjoyed the splay, it looked really professional
I never get tired of that intro music!
Sam looking great today. The beard is on point. :)

So what was your decision and why?

Do you enjoy Green Horde more so than Black Plague? If you had to choose one to keep, which one would it be?
Andrew C why the minitures aren't half as good

How many missions in horde n plauge. I'm gonna try this one first

I missed out on the kickstarter but I'm still interested in Green Horde.
Just wait for Invaders

i ve played the origianal zombicide before now tumbleing into this one - ve read a lot of recommendations to play "black plague" before this one.
Long live the trebucheat!!! (Uzza!!!)
I would have prefered green horde as an expansion to black plague

Zombicide invasion seems even worse to me so don't worry about your GH pledge
I came here for the beard.. ^^
Totally agree about the runners.

I thought all zombicide games were 1-6 players so this being 2-6 is a surprise.
I need to get a fwend. 😨
I miss you Sam!
What happened to him?

Felipe Revolta Get Green Horde and buy the black plague tileset. There is more variety and strategy and replayability that way.
Andrew C what just the tiles alone?
No Orc heroes or non-Zombie enemies?
Grim Knight I'm buying massive darkness for a reason...
What is that?
Regarding the video quality... If you're going to cut / edit 3 times in first minute of speaking, why not just re-shoot until you get the intro right? Just sayin'
Sam here...it was just two cuts...had it actually been three I would've re-shot it...
10-4, i know this isn't a hollywood film or something, just wanted to provide some constructive criticism... Overall the review was very good and I gave it a like, the intro just surprised me with that. Thanks Sam!
Sam here...no worries, brudda! Constructive criticism we likes!

ATrueNightmare Okay...I will be honest..."everyone" will not be painting their miniatures.
I know because people share images of painted minis for CMON games such as this on boards and social media that people think "everyone" paints their sets...the truth is that a small minority actually do.
For those of us who don't "paint" the zombies: boardgamegeek.com/thread/1955888/quick-and-simple-way-non-painters-add-flair-your-m

I like the game... but I certainly do not have the patience to paint all of these figures.
