I am honoured to be healed by Sifu Lam Jun-fai, many years ago. I couldn't raise my arm & he healed me so that I recovered. At that time his wife was teaching kungfu also. He is good in gungfu, Chinese medicine, & love. I just missed the chance to learn from him. I here also appreciate the British English of Lam.
I studied under Sigung lam and have researched the applications by experimenting with other styles, including muay Thai, bjj and ma u others. I'm grateful for the teachings of the Lam family!
well, from what i can understand, its not just that young chinese locals in hong kong are not interested in learning, but also because a lot of these guys had to actually close down their schools, because of the real estate situation in HK, unless you have a side job or a way to generate a lot of income, you just cannot afford to rent the space to even run the school. These men possess a deep well of knowledge but it doesn't necessarily translates to dollars. A lot of these guys ended up opening schools outside HK, all around the world, there are some in london, in the US, all over europe. For example, Lau Kar Yung travels all around the world to teach, i saw him in a video where he went to mexico, i think he has quite a few of his Lau Family Hung Kuen schools outside HK. I am sure others are doing it, i think Chiu Chi Ling used to travel around and do seminaries and teach Hung Kuen too.
Very good presentation but it’s a shame that everyone is seeing these masters come to their end. They should hold on tightly to their heritage. It’s a shame.
This is a awesome. The west should due a documentary because we passionate about lineage of martialist abroad. I am a proud practioner. The local networks are too distracted with propaganda. It does even concern me. Seeing how it has changed my life but Americans are to arrogant to even hear my opinion on the future of society. These are true masters in modern history.
If you like speculating about statecraft, you can wonder about gong fu. The Beijing 24-stance tai ji quan routine seems to harmonize and unify. Jet Li said, looking back on his championship career, that there should be more spontaneity, something like that. Many routines seem stiff and stylized, not organic, not strong, not comfortable. The statecraft element is that when chaos reigns, warlords set themselves up here and there, and cultural growth stops because people don't learn from "strangers" or "enemies". So can you reverse the flow by helping people learn from "strangers and enemies" which then has the effect of forcing warlords to combine into an orderly state? Does this require a state-founder who forces them, or can history force them gently?
I know a lot about weaponry from Burma and the Filipino systems. I have no idea how to transmit my knowledge. Thank you for providing this documentary. I love Chinese martial arts!
This is the good thing about non functional martial arts. Because you don’t spar or fight, and don’t take punches, knees & elbows to the head, and body, so your body is still good to move around when your old, it’s just like doing low impact aerobics your whole life. Just great exercise, which is key to health in old age. And it looks cool in the movies, and it’s going extinct as time is better spent doing boxing, MMA & Muay Thai, as young people want o learn how to fight in the real world, and predetermined moves just don’t work, and you can see it fail all over the internet.
He's actually known by both names, in earlier times it was really Yip. But in the English version of his name in his passport Ip is used. So in later years Ip was used and is more widely known in the West this way :)

it seems like more Non Chinese seems to be picking up the Chinese Martial Arts. TBH traditional Chinese Martial arts have gotten a bad rap, for being ineffective in real combat.
Kung-fu is alive and well and lots of people are studying. However the avenue which they study has changed, a lot of people watch you tube and study there online classrooms on hear are growing. Also, it lasts forever perfectly the way it is presented in video form online. So make a point to make it exactly how it is supposed to be when you put up a video. Imagine a cultural lineage where you can see you your teacher, his teacher for 200 years. In the future with this new technology it will be possible. It had all been starting hear in the last 30 years, since the invention of video,. And now accessible to everyone through the Internet.
9:21 SEE the HUGE difference between "Foreigners-moves" & PURE CHINESE.. As long as you are from ASIA then it will come naturally..but sorry wont be in Western/European cases it looks ODD and silly!
