It's not gonna "work out" for you, it takes over an hour of moderate cardio to counterbalance one extra burger (specifically In and Out double doubles, those are the best). Additionally, doing too much physical exercise will cause your body to decrease calories burned, so it's so much easier just to be in a slight caloric deficit and eat healthier food (if you wanna lose weight). on the pigeon store thing - i live in nyc and my roommate owns two pigeons! he goes to that store, that's where he adopted the pigeons. he goes there too for food etc the reason people would buy or adopt a pigeon in new york is because the pigeons on the street wouldnt acclimate to a home environment. the way that pigeons bond needs to happen (or is most effective) if its from a really young age. so buying them from the store, your pigeon would bond with you. also, pigeons only live 3-4 years (if theyre lucky) in the wild. but when theyre domestic pigeons, eating a healthy diet, they can live up to 10 years. theyre very sweet creatures actually and super smart :)

Joey, sorry to say brother, but only around 1 percent of the human population is casually under 10 percent body fat, and it’s typically people that compete in body building/ physique shows. Not even athlete are that low in body fat percentage. Athlete range around 12.5 to 16 percent while regular guys range from 14 all the way to 25 percent.
I've gone through some wild swings in my health life, it's never easy. From 300 lbs to 185 then stable at 200. The gym doesn't have to be the only thing! My true love is martial arts. Fantastic workout, you get to learn, and be part of a group. For me, the gym is something as a means to an end and I actually don't enjoy it that much. I get in, do my session, and get out. This is okay to feel this way. Martial arts? I could practice for hours and hours. Find what works for you and make that part of your week. Doesn't have to be everyday. Oh, and eat good.
I'd say even 15% is generous, probably closer to 18%. I'd have to see the rest of his body to really say, but he carries quite a lot of fat on his face to be 10%

Just so you guys know, Hawaii does give locals a discount at businesses versus tourists. Its called the kamaaina discount. You have to show your state ID to get it
i honestly don't think that's such a crazy concept! tourists are people who are normally willing to pay "touristy prices" no problem, but to have locals also pay the same price IS the crazy thing! so yeah, such "discounts" shouldn't be looked down upon i think.
Some places in mainland US do that too! I think what they were saying was crazy was the fact that they weren't checking IDs but doing it off of just somebody's race
@@Hades_Bell I mean, you can't really blame a 99% homogeneous country for assuming anyone who doesn't look or talk like them that they're not a "local".... especially in touristy areas🤷🏻♂️
I'm Saudi and i remember when i went to Eygpt i had a huge discount at museums because my passport is part of the Arab league, it was like 30 pounds for Egyptians and other Arabs and 450 for foreigners
The key to being obsessed in the gym is being obsessed with yourself, trust me here. Ultimately as someone who has worked out since I was 16 now 31 and worked out 9 times a week for most my years until 29 years old, it’s obsessive and can take away from life experiences with family and friends. The dopamine hits, you excuse your body being in shape for being healthy minded in pattern, when in fact it easily can become dystopia. Granted I was in AMAZING shape, but I’ve laid off of it half the amount and my life is GENUINELY happier. I experience much more with more energy with other people. Life is short you guys, learn to balance everything. Health is very important and so is living. Find your balance, do a bit of research on all things you’re consuming and habitually doing from the time you wake up to the time you go to bed. To the young generation, I know yall are suffocated in comparison games and grind culture. Learn to be more empathetic. To the old people, learn to be more open minded and less jaded. Cheers and hope anyone reading this has a happy life 🎉

If you can afford it, a good trainer is invaluable in teaching you proper techniques, possibly diet, and almost forcing you to get up off your ass and attend the session. As someone who's lazy, that pressure to not disappoint your trainer does work as motivation for me.

If you don't move around every few years where you're forced to take stock of your items because you have to pack and move them, sometimes furniture just sinks into the background of your room and you forget the details of it. I do move every few years and still I can forget details of things I have, lol.
1:59:23 There are some places in the US that charges more for tourists compared to locals; for example, in my state, locals pay less or don’t need to pay at all for special events (State Fair, Festivals, etc.) or places like the zoos, aquariums, museums, historic sites, and even parking garages and swimming pools. You just show your state ID if you don’t want tourist pricing.
Honestly I don’t think I can go to the gym without a personal trainer, I’ve tried it before and I just end up being so lost and then just do stretching, I just need that extra person there giving me instructions and helping me push myself to be better
I like those outside equipments that are completely free Seeing the clear blue sky while on the bench… the pure outside air Not so nice during winter! 😂
if you can afford one, especially a good one that knows what they are talking about, it's great! but if not, have a goal in mind before going to the gym, and there are plenty of videos on youtube nowadays that can help you with your goals. of course it doesn't beat a good personal trainer, but i've reached this point in my fitness journey without any personal trainers so far, just plenty of self study and self reflection!
Bouldering is the cheat code for me, a social sport that I do for 3 hours twice a week, and have been doing for around 4 months, by now I gained around 6 kg of muscle and around 3 of fat. Its so unfairly good. Like its not depressing or boring because its social and some routes change every week. The community is very friendly too, just great. Every time, much how Felix noted in his video, when I'm bored I realise how much I can't wait to go climb again. In short, recommend to everyone and anyone who has friends to with. (doing it solo is kinda depressing)
Them talking about SE reminded me about how insane mine was in Southern California in the early 2000s. My SE health teacher taught us that ALL STDs and STIs were untreatable and uncureable. All of them. I shit you not. We even had kids in the class ask about specific diseases like crabs. Teacher said no. All STDs and STIs were uncureable and untreatable. It made me terrified of sex until I hit my mid 20s when I learned you can treat and cure most STDs and STIs
I love swimming. I was formally taught at age 7, but was in the water as a toddler, when my Dad taught me how to swim through an incoming wave. I was 4 when I ran from my parents and pushed people out of the way to start climbing the high dive (Dad caught me on the second rung). My favorite thing to do when I was about 11 or so was to get myself to the bottom of the deep end and just hang out down there as long as I could. My happy place, indeed! Freaked out my Mom a few times, though...
Connor and Grant, having a parrot is like having an eternal toddler that can live up to 70+ years depending on the species. So yeah, if you’re prepared to take care of a screaming, hyperactive, emotionally needy, and destructive fluff of feathers with LOTS of “ parrot” proofing your home, then by all means, go ahead 😂 And no, they don’t stay in cages all the times. They need a couple of hours of flight time…… daily… And they poop a lot.. like A LOT AND EVERYWHERE 🙂

Hey Joey, actual fitness professional here with a completed bachelors degree and working on a doctorate in the health and wellness field. Please ignore the people saying you're completely wrong about your body fat %. I doubt you are under 10%, but you very well could be and are likely quite close! Here's my rationale: Joey is 6'1 and let's say 65kg (he doesn't actually say what it is, but he says he is quite lean). That would make his BMI about 19. I ran his age, BMI, and sex information through a regression equation (developed by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition) designed to estimate %body fat within plus/minus 3% accuracy. The result was an estimated 14% body fat, but his true body fat could be 3% above that (17%) or 3% below that (11%). This BMI regression equation is known to overestimate the %body fat in young men, so it is very likely he is close to that 10%! There are many ways to estimate %body fat that vary in accuracy and who knows what method Joey used. That said, I don't think it is far off the truth nor a completely unreasonable claim! Excellent work on your fitness, keep it up.
I really appreciate all the effort you put into this data but I'd have to say that Joey is nowhere near 10% body fat. When he stated that he was under 10% I heavily doubted it but I didn't want to judge without even having an idea what his body looks like so went and checked his Instagram to see if he perhaps had posted any photos of his body and to my surprise he actually did about 2 weeks ago at the beach and just by looking at his body I can confidently say that Joey is nowhere near 10% body fat let alone under that, 10% with absolutely zero definition in your abdominal muscles is unheard of, even somebody at 15% body fat has pretty decent definition on their abs, my estimate about his actual Body fat % would be somewhere around the high teens. Even so it's still a great accomplishment for Joey and it always feels great seeing others getting into the fitness journey and enjoying it!
considering he just started doing this, I think he might've misunderstood what his coach told him, he's likely below 20, I'm skinny as fuck, was underweight before I started working out, and even I'm like 15% on a normal diet
I think correlating something enjoyable with exercising really helps. I’ve been running 7 miles every day for the past couple years on the treadmill while watching anime. It’s the only time that I actually watch anime so I correlate my gym time with being able to catch up on anime
Regardless of the exercises, having a partner is the greatest motivation. Having some encouragement or competition really powers you through the boredom and pain until your body finally becomes accustomed to the activity.
I dont do dietary restrictions either. Add more fruits and veggies to your diet, thatll help you feel less lazy. Because trust me Joey, as a mexican american i eat way worse than you do, yet you were the one who ended up with a back crisis. If you push yourself enough you'll crave the healthy stuff more because you feel the need to prevent your body from collapsing
Crossfit can end up so badly, just be careful with it and especially if you get older and increase intensity. muscles and joints are not happy if you do high intensity stuff with quick movement
Yes! It's a great way to get injured if you go from coach potato to crossfit. You need to be reasonably comfortable with calesthenics before jumping in. Try yoga, aerobics, or introductory martial arts, etc. first.
the first 2 minutes of the video felt so genuine LMAO not saying they aren't normally genuine but you can tell they completely forgot about the camera rolling or not
I can totally relate to Connor’s swimming story. Specifically the part about not having any fear of putting my face in the water and trying to go deep.
From a girl perspective: my mother never teached me make-up since she herself rarely does it, but I don't consider this to be the girl's equivalent of shaving. The more similar experience I feel is learning about menstruating and using pads/tampons. My mom just forgot to tell me in time 😅 I asked her what the pads are for because it was always advertised as something women need. Also another similar thing to shaving is.. shaving! Once again I was never educated on and even was not allowed to do to until a certain age, but I know girls whose moms give them info about shaving, pros and cons, and utilities
as another girl, i agree as well! the equivalent for us is when we start our first day of menstruation. as for makeup i was lucky enough to kinda get an idea on it from watching my older sister but using RUclips as my method of learning was the way to go and i’m glad i did because i know many females now around my age (early/mid-20s) that can’t do makeup at all since they never had someone to show them or they never bothered to look up RUclips tutorials :/
@@animetwilight75 as another girl i disagree, the more accurate equivalent is the whole make-up thing but include skincare into it as well. my first day of menstruation i noticed blood where (i thought) it shouldnt be and asked my mom what to do. makeup and skincare however i was never taught and still remain clueless on. i am one of the females in their 20s you're talking who doesn't know how to do make-up or skincare bc they were never taught. and yes i have "bothered" to try and look up youtube tutorials but you'd underestimate how overwhelming all the shit is because there is too much info and even the "beginner friendly" tutorials are never actually beginner friendly. in the end its like a hurdle that is needlessly high and not worth getting over esp considering the price
@@NCR_ sis, i’m speaking from my own personal experience and the females in my life. idk you or your situation. most women in my life have verbally said to me that they wish they could do makeup and have never learned how to do it and have tried and failed bc they didn’t get enough practice in (during our teenage years) and i feel for them. i didn’t learn about skincare and wasn’t taught skincare so i rarely practiced it and i’m just now learning and finding out what worked for me. i got good at makeup bc i dedicated a lot of time when i was 15-16 years old learning and speed running through endless youtube videos during the michelle phan/other notorious youtube makeup guru days. that’s just MY experience and MY friends experiences. i’m sorry i didn’t clarify, but don’t take what i said to heart. it’s literally just a comment on youtube and me giving my own thoughts. have a nice day.

The thing about enjoying the actual lifting/struggle/persistence of exercise is totally true... after like... a year of consistently doing it (in my experience).
I can attest to the gym becoming a part of my routine and finding it fun, but it isn't fun every single time. That's just not realistic. For me, it's mostly a tool for keeping my depression at bay.
the most relatable comment i've ever read.... i noticed my mental state gets shittier and shittier the more i stay away from working out in any shape or form, and most of the time i don't have the "motivation" to do any activity unless i'm at a gym of any sort as well, i don't have many chances to do any activities outside these facilities, so yeah, it's either that, or i'm just depresso🤷🏻♂
for what its worth i listen to this podcast only at the gym. i dont enjoy the process of running on the treadmill and any non weight lifting exercises either, so i use entertainment to accompany me when doing it. i hope this is useful to someone out there, and this is one of my 'atomic habits'
Joey, it might be good to get an MRI on your lower back. A lot of lower back pain is either genetic, or due to posture or how you sleep. I had a pinched nerve when I was deadlifting 3.5 plates and doing 1 plate weighted pull-ups. Lower back is just a weird area.
I've just started going to the gym again and working on my mental health so this episode was perfectly timed. Feeling hella sore post-workout, but excited to watch my progress, best of luck on your exercise journey dudes!
14:00 Gym is like a therapy the reason why alot of people like to do it is because its the same way we enjoy video games and get immersed in it.When your in the groove and going through the motions you block everything out and minds go blank plus its also a social place where people support each other you and talk to new people. Gym is a vibe.
In America it's rarer and rarer for anybody to be able to retire. I regularly see people in their 50s and 60s working retail and fast food and sometimes seeing people in their 70s still working low level jobs.
That segment at 1:14:00 about ambulances and traffic hit home 😂 Worked as an EMT in the Philippines, if it wasn't hours of desperation in the ambulance trying to get to and find the patient, then it was the hours of desperation in the back of the ambulance trying to get them to the hospital, then it was the mad rush from hospital to hospital thanks to rampant PH Gov corruption and "they're too poor/have no insurance, take them somewhere else!" Ah, fond memories. The earlier episodes of Trash taste unironically were such a huge help back at the station to decompress and process wtf I was responding to.

I felt it when Connor said about his gym being depressed because of it not having a wall. When I first signed up for a gym membership, the first branch was inside the mall. 5th floor, windows all over. I get excited each time I go there and run in threadmill. However, I needed to go back to my city, and the usual gym branch is just depressing and filthy. Cramp space and less ventilation, plus there is no window at all. Makes me feel less motivated to go tbh
The gym is what you make of it. The only reason i havent quit is i ask myself do i really have anything better to do than not go to the gym and combat any diseases and injuries i might get that i sure as heck wont be able to pay for? I lost several family members to diabetes, i dont want that. So its worth it to be tired but still able to walk than to hop around blind. Personally speaking you guys should have it easier than me. I had to bust my hump because my genetics were working against me, being chicano. I dont even use energy drinks, all i had is mental fortitude brought on by muscle media mostly pre 21st century becuase the twinks have infested modern day. Now ive maxed out a few gym machines, the seated leg curl, leg press, upper delt, ab cruncher, and my grip strengthener Though what no one tells you or i had to find out myself is sometimes youll get strength more than you get gains which means adding in more reps. Alot of times it wasnt even gradually. I used around 180lbs on the legg press then one random day i thought wouldnt it be funny if i had it at the maximum setting (400lbs), then to my suprise i was actually able to use it despite not using the lower settings before it. Wasnt even one rep, up to about 26
This just honestly reflect on a decision u made after the fact even if you know it made you happier in the moment did you even care 3 days later probably not. So next time think twice about the decision u know was bad last time you don't have to live miserable just try not to make the unnecessary fumbles and that applies to a lot of areas of life and overtime ull realize those sacrifices of instant gratification resulted in u overall being in a better spot.
@@dobber43 the main reason I didn't harp on not getting immediate results is because I was distracted by watching anime while working out. And still do
you are insane if you think you suddenly added 220lbs to your leg press for reps... that just means you didn't push yourself on the leg press specifically during that time period Also, there is no way you've maxed it out at 400 lbs lmao. the reason people would buy or adopt a pigeon in new york is because the pigeons on the street wouldnt acclimate to a home environment. the way that pigeons bond needs to happen (or is most effective) if its from a really young age. so buying them from the store, your pigeon would bond with you.
also, pigeons only live 3-4 years (if theyre lucky) in the wild. but when theyre domestic pigeons, eating a healthy diet, they can live up to 10 years. theyre very sweet creatures actually and super smart :)
also they are way more domesticated then any other type of bird

@@YousufS16I have neither. One of the things that keeps going is the fact that I can do all these reps with this much weight but the biggest youtubers cant
If you can afford it, a good trainer is invaluable in teaching you proper techniques, possibly diet, and almost forcing you to get up off your ass and attend the session. As someone who's lazy, that pressure to not disappoint your trainer does work as motivation for me.

Bouldering is the cheat code for me, a social sport that I do for 3 hours twice a week, and have been doing for around 4 months, by now I gained around 6 kg of muscle and around 3 of fat. Hey Joey, actual fitness professional here with a completed bachelors degree and working on a doctorate in the health and wellness field. Please ignore the people saying you're completely wrong about your body fat %. I doubt you are under 10%, but you very well could be and are likely quite close! Here's my rationale:
Joey is 6'1 and let's say 65kg (he doesn't actually say what it is, but he says he is quite lean).
Below 10% body fat??? Is Joey sure about that? I recall you need a strict diet to achieve that.
Not necessarilly

Try yoga, aerobics, or introductory martial arts, etc. first.

@@animetwilight75 as another girl i disagree, the more accurate equivalent is the whole make-up thing but include skincare into it as well. my first day of menstruation i noticed blood where (i thought) it shouldnt be and asked my mom what to do. makeup and skincare however i was never taught and still remain clueless on. i am one of the females in their 20s you're talking who doesn't know how to do make-up or skincare bc they were never taught. and yes i have "bothered" to try and look up youtube tutorials but you'd underestimate how overwhelming all the shit is because there is too much info and even the "beginner friendly" tutorials are never actually beginner friendly. in the end its like a hurdle that is needlessly high and not worth getting over esp considering the price

the most relatable comment i've ever read.... i noticed my mental state gets shittier and shittier the more i stay away from working out in any shape or form, and most of the time i don't have the "motivation" to do any activity unless i'm at a gym of any sort as well, i don't have many chances to do any activities outside these facilities, so yeah, it's either that, or i'm just depresso🤷🏻♂

And still do
you are insane if you think you suddenly added 220lbs to your leg press for reps... that just means you didn't push yourself on the leg press specifically during that time period
Also, there is no way you've maxed it out at 400 lbs lmao. Stop acting like you beat the odds just cuz you lift more weight than you did in highschool despite not drinking energy drinks(?!)

I like how Joey's like "athletic school" and that's how every Swedish school were when I grew up; sports events at least once a year, swimming events (you had to learn how to swim different strokes to even pass PE, and when you got older you had to be able to "save" a doll), a "sports week" during the winter where you didn't study (if I recall it correctly) but got stamps for different activities like skiing, ice skating, play outside in the snow and reading books :) Good times
Joey never disappoints with his "I made it the fuck up" statements and this episode is no exception
In my state, there's permanent art installations (Meow Wolf) and museums that have a "local" discount and they just check your drivers license
31:43 nah that’s not Mudan’s POV it’s another person’s POV
I'm having a deja vu watching this whole episode
