      @@bevyh1 it is the water level that keeps the new machines out of balance for the most part, not enough weight to balance the machine properly.
      Water auto balances, wet clothes do NOT.
      I prefer old direct drive washing machines and if I could make a living of it I would restore them and sell them or build my own brand.
      But unfortunately the industry is ruled by only 4 companies ( whirlpool, Electrolux, lg and Samsung) anything other brand you see was built by them and owned by them!

      @@thetruth7644 So very right. Not only would more water help to balance the load, it would also let the clothes flow more freely. The drum being lightweight with a lot of play in it is all designed to aid in the out of balance problem causing the washing machine to wear out quicker. A lot of thought is put into appliances to make them work against the consumer.

    They created the lid lock because the new he washers spin much faster and it’s a protective feature. The agitator goes up higher because the washer capacity is bigger and the items in the top of the load get clean. I don’t like lid locks either. I’m old school and grew up with the ones that were built like tanks. The best top loader out right now, in my opinion, is the Speed Queen TC 5000. It was released in the spring with the old school agitator and no lid lock. Lots of complaints when they released the 2018 models because of the agitation and new building of machines. So, they released the TC 5000 that is built like their old machines everyone loves. They are expensive but, come with better factory warranties. Built like a tank.

    • @bevyh1
      @bevyh1  4 года назад

      The higher agitator means that you need to be really careful because you can hurt your hand just trying to place your clothes in the washer as the fin is in the way and who is used to the fin being that high. It's very easy to hit your hand on the fin. Also I was very disappointed about the water level. So far I have not seen the water level any more than half full so I question if you can even use a full load in the washer so it even makes it hard to decide how much soap to use since the washer decides how much water it is going to use even when you put it to manual max water level. It's too bad most people don't have time to research all the washing machines and appliances they buy.
      Appreciate your info as I have a feeling it won't be long til we will need to buy another washer as like others have said this washer sounds like it's on its last leg from day one. When you are used to the sound of an old work horse washing machine it's hard to get used to the sound of the new washers that seems to struggle to get the job done. The sales lady claimed the washer will fill all the way up with water on the max fill, but that is not true.
      What customers need to realize, but rarely do, is that sales people are there to sell a product so the customer must find out the true on their own and it's usually the hard way. Thanks for watching.

If it's not high enough, push the deep fill button to get 3 gallons of water. I think you can push the button 3 times before the washer won't allow anymore water in. If you just wanna bypass the Lid lock, do this. From my other post. ........... I just got the new GE GTW465asn9ww 4.5 cubic in. Sep 2023, love it! Had the same one in the 4.2 inch for 6-8 years and put it through hell with all my business detailing towels. My lid on my old unit would only lock when spinning. The new one stops washing every time I lift the lid wtf. Most the video's show how to re-wire it (jumper wire) not necessary! Do this trick Like Mr. Jones did in this video (Thanks for this clip Mr. Jones) . My new lid lock hook is a little different (square) but same concept. I just undid the lid lock latch with 2 screws and duct tapped it down in the hole. (the machine thinks the lid is closed all the time) Now I can view with lid open at any stage. The lid sticks up a little but I'm going to dremal/cut it this week to make it flush. I understand this is a safety mechanism and you may not want to do this if you have kids or ur wife is blonde.

    Every north american manufacturer ended up copying Whirlpool's dual action agitator (the one in the video is GE's version of it). They copied it because it cleaned clothes better than the old agitators did - the dual action top part pushes clothes to the bottom of the basket so that they rub up against the fins, this action also gives more roll-over which causes cleaner clothes. Case in point - MAYTAG N-E-V-E-R advertised they actually cleaned clothes until they made and utilized their version of the Whirlpool dual action agitator. Maytag and GE actually settled a patent dispute out of court with Whirlpool, because when they brought their dual action agitator to Canada, the Whirlpool patent was still enforceable.
    The reason for a lid lock is so that the manufacturers could create transmissions without a brake (making the transmission simpler and less expensive). For SAFETY reasons, the lid lock was put in place so that a child could not open the lid, stick their hand in and get harmed. If they did not use a lid lock, they MUST stop the basket from turning within something like 10-16 revolutions. If someone who was a GE tech from 1995 to the early 2000's could tell us what that number was, as the GE washer at that time actually had a sensor to count the revolutions.

    • @bevyh1
      @bevyh1  2 года назад

      Maybe you also know why they would not allow the customer to decide water level and I am lucky if I get 1/2 drum full of water which does not let the clothes move freely. Also why would the manufacture cycle the wash cycle on and off causing it to swish stop swish stop. The older model top loaders allowed a person to decide water level, washed continually and got finished sooner. The start stop motion of the wash cycle seems to be counter productive. I believe the well built quality of the old style washing machine with the old style agitator minus the lid lock is the cream of the crop and I believe what we have to deal with in this new world of so called mass improvements is a bunch of bull. Sorry I disagree with you and I'm sure I'm not alone.

    The lid lock is because it spins at a very high rate, much faster than older machines. A common problem on older models was the brake/clutch mechanism, with the high spin speeds a brake was not feasible. Hence the time delay allows the machine to slow down before you can open the lid. People insisted on sticking their hands into much older models, which could and did break fingers and arms. It is a total nuisance but better than $$$ for a new clutch. Off balance may be from uneven loading, one or two towels keep too much weight on one side. Wash three at a time and similar materials go together.

    • @bevyh1

      The fins at the top of the agitator is a poor design in my view as the old design was not an issue loading and unloading clothes. The fins are in the way and it is easy to get hurt on them. The old agitator style was by far a better design but by putting the fins at the top to get hurt on, then that gaves them the opportunity to put in lid locks. It is just one more measure of control. The machine also controls the amount of water you can use letting us the customer know our appliances are in control of our lives. Maybe if we lower the height of ceilings in homes to 6 ft and mandate flat roofs for all homes it would make it safer for children when they climb on the roof. Also if they lower the speed limit to 10 miles an hour on city streets would help save lives. Never in my long life have I ever heard of one child sticking their arm in a washing machine and breaking their arm. I'm sure there are some children out there somewhere that do like to live on the edge and will do anything. Also the drum is so lightweight and there is so much play in the drum that it is nearly impossible to keep it from getting out of balance no matter how careful you load the machine.

      @@arthurtennessen9680 The lid lock is a nuisance but by hitting the pause button and waiting til the spin stops and the light goes out I can then open the lid. Without the lid lock you had the option to immediately open the lid to stop the washing machine. If they would have the old type agitator that was not harmful (didn't have the crazy fins on the upper part of the agitator ) the lid lock was not necessary. The lid lock is just one more thing to deal with in this crazy world we live in. Because of the fins it's very easy to hurt your hand as you try to put clothes in and take clothes out of the washing machine. I suspect many people will panic and pry open the lid in lid lock position when clothes are in the spin cycle and off balanced and break the lid lock. I am luck to have lived a lot of my life before they started messing with really good quality appliances and turned them into junk. The worst part of the new washing machines is you think you are going to have a decent water level but just open the lid and see for yourself. Count yourself lucky if you end up with a half tub of water for a large load no matter what setting you use. The sales lady will tell you you can fill it up, though. The lid lock is because some random idiot somewhere, opened the lid and stuck their arm in while the drum or agitator was moving and harmed themselves, so now we all have to put up with this annoyance to make things safer for people too dumb to operate a washing machine.
      I do suspect that it is also to hide how little water it uses and how pathetic it is at agitating, as many people would realize what a poor job that does to wash clothing and want to return their washer because of that. so putting a lid lock on saves them from people returning these as pieces of junk unfit for washing clothing unless it wasn't dirty in the first place.

    • @bevyh1
      @bevyh1  2 года назад +1

      Yes it will fill a little, then stop and then start again to finish filling but it will not fill the tub with water. If you are lucky it will fill halfway so you will have approximately half a tub of water. That is your machine telling you how much water you are allowed to use to do your wash. This could be part of the reason why it so easily gets out of balanced as there is not enough water to let your clothes flow freely in the washer. Some people will add extra gallons of water to the wash and I've heard of holding a button done to try to get it to fill more but I have not tried any of those remedies for not enough water. I believe these methods that the manufacture came up with are tools to cause the machine to breakdown more quickly. No proper water level, a light weight drum (tub) and a lid lock are three tools to cause a washing machine to go out of balance quickly and easily. Then when you try to open the lid lock, after you hit pause, it takes its good ole time releasing the lid lock while you watch the machine thrash around out of balance. I suspect it took some very clever minds to come up with how to cause the destruction of a washing machine more quickly.

Takes about 45 min long on just a simple load. Pauses for long periods between actions. I could go on and on. Also, I bought it from BestBuy - and when I went to attached the hose - about 3 cups of water came out BEFORE I ever used it. Obviously was a used send-back from a disgruntled customer repacked. Totally infuriated. But I just don't want to deal with them - so I'll keep it and be bitter.

      Sorry to hear you too are not a happy customer. I did a video on the lid lock solution. The lid lock is only locked when it is in the spin cycle but most of us like me will use it and not realize it and when the washing machine starts acting up and you try to open the lid it is a shock. You can hit the pause button and wait and the spin will stop or you can wait til it goes through the spin cycle. There is a pause time after it goes through the spin cycle before it will unlock. You can open the lid and add more clothes and open the lid other times too but not in the spin cycle. The reason they have the lid lock is they have a poorly designed agitator with fins up toward the top. So they created a problem and then came up with a solution, the lid lock and many will end up breaking the lid lock to get the washing machine lid open. It's a win win for the manufacturer. The days of quality and good designed appliances are over, sadly.

Last month my Rockstar jeans came out with the seam on the inner right leg stretched to the point of threading coming out and the seam itself all lumpy. $170 fkn pants RUINED! (found out here it's cuz it got stuck in that ring around the agitator where there's a little gap, and then of course starts spinning and subsequently pulling on that piece if fabric still stuck in there!) Now I have the issues u guys are having to boot! It's constantly out of balance, sometimes clothes are soaking wet even after the spin cycle, a few incidences of it not draining...Now last night, I thought I had forgotten to push start cuz I went to go put my load into the dryer, and when I opened the lid, I found they were still bone dry! So I started it again... it did the famous locking, made a bunch of clicking sounds, started to fill... for about 5 seconds, then just STOPPED! Lights off, lid unlocked, like it was done. Fan-fkn-tastic. After several attempts, I finally got it to fill by using the "Deep Fill" option. SOOOOO DONE WITH THIS MACHINE, I am FURIOUS! Naturally, my warranty just expired April 3rd. Now I come here hoping to find a DIY repair cuz I'm out of work still (Over it with Covid too dammit) and not in a position to buy another washer right now, and found this along with countless more all about my same issues with this joke of washing machine. GE basically calls it user error and that's that. A bunch of "How to properly load...How to properly..." whatever. U know what?! I DIIIID!!! I know how to properly load this type of washer, I know how to choose the proper settings, and I know all the best practices with what gets washed with what - still have all these issues! And like I said, they just get WORSE over time! I am embarrassed to go outside in my own clothes! Fk u GE, I cannot believe I AM THE MORON WHO RECOMMENDED YOUR BRAND!!!!!!!

      Try always using the deep fill. When i first got the washer i thought enough water was filling up but i was wrong. If it doesn't have enough water your clothes won't get clean. I also find a little baking soda with the detergent and using vinegar instead of fabric softener works wonders.

    I have this machine and it's not a problem!!! Your machine was not properly leveled . I had mine delivered, free from Lowe's and they installed it. I had a level and checked it and it was level. Also, instructions tell you to not wrap your clothes around the agitator. Keep them away from agitator and close to sides of the tub. Problem solved.

    • @bevyh1
      @bevyh1  4 года назад

      The washing machine is level. What happened to me was I washed pillows and one pillow was not as heavy as the other pillows and it caused it to be off balance and then I tried to open the lid like I've done before to try to remedy the off balance problem and the lid was locked. If you haven't read the book then you are not prepared for the lid lock. I did not read the book before I used the washing machine. Now things are different and you have to read a book before using an appliance. It used to be washing machines were easy to use, no books necessary. Yes the agitator is of a poor design. The old style agitator got the clothes clean, did not stick out in the way of your hands when you load and unload the washer and you didn't have to keep the clothes away from the agitator. This type of agitator, in my view, is very hard on the clothes and they need to go back to the old style agitator that worked just fine for a very very long time and then there would be no need for a lid lock as the agitator was not dangerous.

      I believe the main reason for the poor design of the agitator was to have an excuse to add the lid lock. I believe the lid lock was added so as to frustrate the buyer until they rip open the lid and then either have to get a repairman or buy another washer. I believe appliances are designed to be complicated, annoying and poorly designed so the customer will be back out on the showroom floor looking for another appliance, then another and on and on it goes as the customer will always think maybe I can find something better this time.

      One problem is you don't know how much water the washing machine is going to give you to gage the amount of detergent. Another is the washing machine is so light weight and there is a lot of play in the drum, that mostly likely is the cause of the washer getting out of balance a lot and causing damage to clothes and a lot of tangling on the clothes to name a few. Not to mention the nuisance of the lid lock. The powers that be wants us poor so junk is made for us to use so it will have to be replaced continually and we spend our time reading books in order to use the junk we buy. With the old time appliances none of these problems existed but there is a greedy world and the name of the game is make junk to break down quickly. I'm sorry I put this so bluntly, or maybe not.

    I don't even know what precise fill mean. The real subject I must get right into. There is not a place on the internet that shows how to bypass the switch for this type of washer. I think what you got is the same as Hotpoint washing machine. I have spent days and countless hours taking the door switch apart and looking at it.
    Bypassing it is out of the question by any means in terms of hot wiring etc. The computer with this type of set up is I believe in communication with the door switch. It is not a one shot hot wire and the ball rolling. Agitation contacts and location of the shaft on the solenoid is different than when it is in spin mode. Furthermore the computer actually tests to see if the door actually locks and also unlocks before spin takes place and does so at precise time. If it deson't see that. you are shit out of lock. You will discover that you have got yourself a code, fatal error unlocking the door. If you want to fool it, you can't. You have to stand in there, immitate that the door is closed, and then it is locked and then unlocked and locked at precise time when the computer sends the signal. Tell you what..... Thanks GE with your rip off. You are crook. You want people to purchase your door switches in the name of safety. Go to hell. And thanks to all these companies for making this vertical rod spring system, cheap springs going out balance in no time and destroying whatever else results from it. Cheap plastic shit switches. You can't do a dam thing, you are handicapped until it is fixed. Since most people have no clue, they simply give up buy new one and fill than landfills. It is criminal. All in the name of safety and water saving and the rest of cult messages.
    I have a 30 year old Maytag and it runs the same way as the day I bought it. I have not done a dam thing to it except some cheap paint spray here and there as a result of banging it here and there. It will outlive me and my kinds. It weighs a ton. All solid metal.
    You want to god dam save the environment and save energy. Don't fucking wash so god dam much. Why do you have so much stench anyway.
    Nonetheless the reason I fix these dam modern machines is for other people. I tell them see my washing machine, you pay me $1000 I won't sell it to you. It has the smell of grandpa's crotch. You don't want it. Plus it makes you look old and ugly and poor.
    Yea how do you like me now. It wasn't meant that I am to be liked. You just keep it spend your heard earned money buying cheap shit just because it has got touch pads and makes you feel sexy. It is for getting laid and nothing else. Then comes divorce and you are broke. By then you are old and ready for the grave. or they shove you in some nursing home and forget about you. Yea aren't you important.

    • @bevyh1
      @bevyh1  4 года назад +1

      Precise fill: is it fills it as high as it feels like it based on the size and weight of the clothes. It is bologna as the washing machine decides for you on every load how much water it is going to allow you to have. One of the reasons for the lid lock is to hide the fact that the washing machine is deciding for you how much water it will let you have no matter what level you select.
      I had a chance to buy a used washer from a repairman but he was asking a lot for a used one. Wish I would have bought that instead.
      We must not blame or curse God for man's greed and evil deeds. We need God to get us through our time on earth. According to God life on earth is like a vapor but it sure don't feel like it when we are going through the worst of times. Hang in there and realize we are only here on earth for a little while. God has promised the powers that be in high places will not win.

      @@bevyh1 Well to be honest here is me and my head space I have to deal with.
      So far I have repaired around 30 different washing machines and dryers. And better yet thus far I have repaired them without spending a single dime. Instead of buying their door switches which is all the preaching you get since most of the videos are put here are from parts folks. I get that. No I repair the switches. I take them apart and I take a good look at their game plane. Instead of buying their suspension rods and springs, I have done far better than that. What I have done I should patent it. I can make these washers spin so smoothly, far better than when they shoved them brand new from the factory.
      Alas I have even repaired cracked dryer drums. I make the heater coils and much more.
      The only thing I can not do is repair solid state designs such as user interfaces on some of these washing machine. And at last this Hotpoint Hydrowave gave me the finger.
      It took me awhile to realize that whatever that is going on is not the usual, the easy nonsense from them educated experts who proudly tell you how to bypass a door switch.
      Sure not anywhere anyone of them has tackled this switch.
      GE wizard designer rip-offs designed the circuitry of the control module so that it will recognize any attempt at hot wiring it. I know what hot wiring actually entails as far as the computer is concerned. GE with this type of switch won't have it. They also will not of course tell you what is really going on and how the switch really works. Of course not.
      At present moment this is where I have ended:
      The washer fills and agitates without any door lock led coming on. Even though I have tested the lid switch by its own diagnostics, Which shows that when door closed the spin light will blink and when door is open the spin light will blink. It is obvious no diagnostic anywhere about door lock engagement. That is not the same as door close or door open. Pretty mean? Yes it is.
      Furthermore, while agitating if I open the door it pauses and pause light comes on. Or if I just push the switch the pause light comes on. However no door lock light comes on. And of course after agitating it is over, it will not drain.
      Okay while agitating if I open the door and take a screw driver and push the door switch further in the door lock comes on and it also kills the cycle. It is the end of agitation.
      But for spin, it will not spin unless the door lock light is lit along with door switch locked. I have been able to accomplish that just one time.
      That is when I put the machine on wash, it reached and ended with no drain and occasionally it would drain and that is it and sometimes it would wash two or three times. But never right through and spin.
      One time I cancelled at at then of agitation, turned the knob to drain and spin and messed with the door switch and low and behold it went on high spin. I thought I had done it. Just because I was able to make it spin. But that was a one time deal.
      Well in conclusion I have ordered the door switch from Amazon yesterday.., And so will see.
      To be honest I can order whatever it is anytime. But I am not interested in that. What I am really interested is how the mischief works. But that is often classified information. It is taking advantage of the masses by the people who make the goods.

Yes it is an evil trick as a decent agitator the way they used to be solves the problem of someone getting hurt as the fins don't run high on the agitator to hurt yourself on. First they had to mess with the agitator to have an excuse to have the lid lock. Then they have a flimsy setup that will get out of balance easily so you will need to reposition your clothes. Amazingly this poor light weight is still running even though I can't dictate how much water I can have.

    And when that fails? Break the damn thing like I did and spend $200 to get it fixed. I paused it. I stopped it. I unplugged it and it was still locked. Angry as hell with this useless feature, I just forcefully pulled it open and some shitty plastic part broke and the rest is history. God will punish these corporate scumbags, I hope.

      This feature is a hum dinger. I wonder how long it took the powers that be to come up with this feature along with the water saver feature and the child proof pill bottle that the elderly can't open. Actually though the child proof pill bottle could save the elderly's life too. I have never heard of a child hopping into a washing machine and getting killed and I'm pretty sure I never will, although the powers that be claim the washing machine is a threat.

    the reason they changed the agitator ,,is because of design,,of course the old style worked great,,but these new designs are a wee bit better lol..meaning your cloths flip much more and are more agitated than the older style..they both get the job done and i feel ur pain with the new stuff :)

      Whipping the clothes too much can also cause them to wear out much quicker. The old style agitator got the clothes clean and didn't whip them to death. Don't know what on earth the point is to start stop start stop during the process. The old style washing machine didn't need to do that and only stopped between cycles to change to the next step.

      BUT THEY DIDN'T. This style of agitator has been in use for well over 20 years, before there was ever a lid lock. The real reason it has the lid lock were outlined in my prior post, but also because there is not brake on the drum so once it is turned off, it continues to spin until friction brings it to a stop, so even with it unpowered the drum can still be spinning fast and some people don't have enough common sense not to reach into a spinning drum.
