  • Top 5 Songs From the Brian Jones Era
Originally to be used in various different videos, I decided in sharing the full unedited conversation with Gary here today. We lost Gary this week and everyone in the online Stones fan community is still reeling over the news Gary was one of a kind and his generosity knew no bounds. A friend to everyone who crossed paths with him. Please visit both Rocks Off, his creation, along with the Gigograpy database chronicling every Stones show ever performed.

RIP Gary! I met him 26 years ago and remained friends with him from across the pond. I was so happy to get a surprise video from him on my 60th birthday. I am so sad and will always miss his posts and he's always been a dear friend My love to his wife Heather n his family.

I first met Gazza and his incredibly sweet wife Heather back in 1999 for the Wembley shows, though we had chatted for a couple of years on various message boards. He and I shared the same love for the Brian Jones era, and his list would not be far off from mine. As others have mentioned, he was an incredibly kind soul, a great wit, and his knowledge was encyclopedic. Huge loss for his family and the Stones community.

My early Jones Stones R&B playlist
You can’t catch me, Mercy Mercy, Suprise Suprise, Oh Baby (we got a good thing going), Look What You Done, I Can’t be satisfied, The Singer Not the Song, Grown Up All Wrong, What a shame, Gotta Get Away, Talkin About You, off the hook
12 tracks just under 30 minutes. Perfect early stones energy, the way Brian intended
Speaking of weaving, listen to the Singer not the song from the 1 minute mark. Subtle but amazingly beautiful.

I had a chance to meet gazza, not sure but I believe it was during the licks tour? He had a video of one of the recent shows, I have no idea how he got it, but it was great talking to him, very kind, wonderful person, he had just flown over from Europe. I didn't known he was gazza until he told me his name, my reaction was " your gazza!!!" , I told him how well known he was over here, he just told me it was all about getting information to the people, great guy, so sorry to hear about his passing

Great video Hang Fire. I hadn’t thought about the Brian Jones ERA for a long time. What a musical genius Brian was. As I always say No Jones no Stones and that goes for Ian Stewart too. RIP GAZZA

Really saddened to learn of Gazza's passing. I never "knew" him as such, but we corresponded a few times (he knew I was a fellow Brian-nut!), and saw his posts and research everywhere. He came across as a lovely man.
Wonderful interview about my favourite period of course, if bitter-sweet under the circumstances - and some great choices. I've always thought of 'Child Of The Moon' as the solitary link between the TSMR and BB eras.
A couple of things worth adding: Brian also played saxophone on The Beatles' 'You Know My Name' (yes, really!), and for some unknown reason 'No Expectations' was played in a higher key on 'Rock 'n' Roll Circus' (love Brian's shaky but poignant playing on that version). More Brian years please!
Oh... and surely Gazza was thinking of 'SGT. Pepper' rather than TSMR when he suggested that it would've made a great EP?!
    R.I.P. Gazza!

Mostly lurked on tell me and rocks off and i used to go by pretty beat up on keno's board. Always thought gazza was spot on in his opinions and fandom and looked forward to reading his comments. I recall he and I both shared an appreation for Feel on Baby. I regards to the the Jones/60s era, some of my all time faves that are not so popular are Blue Turns to Grey, Think, Out of Time, and Complicated. As far as covers, I really dig the swinging 60s style groove of their remake of Think About You. Oh and Mercy Mercy is fantastic.

Rest in peace to Gary and I don’t know him personally but I’m glad he knew and loved my favorite era of the Stones
Brian Jones wasn’t a great guy outside music but when wasn’t spiraling out with drugs Brian was a musical genius that knew how to play muiltple instruments that brought texture and color on Aftermath through Their Satanic Majesty’s Request and how to push the stones in new directions in the early years where they could strive plus he did a whole entire soundtrack with Jimmy freaking Page

Did you know him? The people in his life actually do speak well of him to this day. And the rest of the band had their drug spiraling moments too.
