Viewer here from Metro Manila, Philippines. Back in August 25, 2002, my uncle bought an SCPH-30006 Fat PS2 with a modchip pre-installed that can play original and pirated PS2, PS1, and DVD movie discs from any region. It would do straight boot-up for PS2 games but when it came to PS1 games or DVD movie discs, you had to do some boot-up trickery by inserting the disc onto the tray, closing the disc tray, then place the console into standby mode. Then reboot the console by firmly holding down the reset button until the disc is read but it does show the PS1 logo during the boot-up sequence. Looks like my uncle's PS2 had one of the early Messiah or Magic modchips installed. Looks like the Modbo 5.0 modchip came late into the PS2's life cycle and improved upon previous modchips for I have seen videos here on RUclips wherein people who tested them did not resort to any boot-up trickery with the reset button for playing PS1 games but the problem is the PS1 logo doesnt how up. Is there any way the Modbo 5.0 chip be tuned in the menu to show the PS1 logo during the boot-up process? Early PS2 modchips did not allow you to access its internal menu settings unlike the Modbo 4.0 and 5.0. I have an unmoded SCPH-50001 Fat PS2 but I have 2 Modbo 5.0 Modchips and 2 KHS-400C spare LASER lens modules. I am planning to buy another Fat PS2 that I can have one of my Modbo 5.0 modchips and spare LASER lens module installed in to play PS2 and PS1 games region free but I would like to have the PS1 logo show up in the boot-up sequence like an unmodified PS2 without having to do the boot-up trickery on earlier PS2 modchips. As for your problem with the HDMI adaptor to your TV, your HDMI adaptor might be able to read 240p resolutions or your TV's HDMI ports might not support resolutions lower than 480p and 480i. You should try using a TV that can read lower resolutions via RCA composit or component cables or use a SCART connector since you live in a PAL country(I'm guessing you are an Aussie judging from your accent). I believe modern day budget friendly HD-ready TVs with nalog video inputs can read lower resolution or use an old CRT TV to be sure.
I’m sorry dude but this video made me laugh so much I’m going to cry. You may want to check your captions on your first sentence. I saw the intro on my feed and it showed auto captions and it’s not what you’re saying! Take care and good video!! Lol
I installed this finally in a spare PS2 slim i had a few weeks ago. If you paid me any amount of money right now i wouldn't do it again. It was the biggest pain in the azz. When i got to the end i of course had to resolder some wires back to the points. I had a magnifier with a light and advise a microscope if you want to attempt this. I cannot tell you how long it took me. If i had to guess i'd say hours. I am 48 now, so the hand and eyes are not as young like they used to be. It didn't defeat me though!
Modder here (rsx), I know this is old but the 77 model is the highest I'll go because the 79 and 90 series b/g/h/i points are too difficult and I never really had the opportunity to work on them,. My customers didn't have one, turns out they weren't big sellers. But by that point in the ps2's hardware revisions, sony cracked down and made it incredibly difficult.
@@JoeBleeps It's the bios points for that model, roughly 10 wires. My strategy is a magnifier (from harbor freight), then make a small incision with an exacto knife on each point, this exposed the bare metal. Then flux, tin the points, wipe it down. Tin the wires (30awg) small dab of flux and it goes right on. Never bricked one.
Nice job! These are very annoying to do because they are sooo tiny. The lastest one I did I made look real fancy. I just setup a NAS for a slim to run games off an HDD that way, you get way more speed then from the PS2s USB 1.1 ports. So I'd recommend doing that instead of just USB if you wanted to try something new. 🙂
Great video. I am a complete beginner and haven't soldered a single thing however I am planning to attempt a ps1 mod chip and then this slim mod chip. Any advice would be apriciated.
If you've never soldered before I'd say avoid something like this, at least until you've learned how to do it. I've just recently uploaded a soldering tutorial video, be sure to check it out.
Hey Joe, great video mate. I’ve got a FAT GH-026 board in front of me and a Modbo 5.0. Just about to install but wanted to ask any recommended mounting positions for the CHIP?
Before you start, do a Google image search for that board and chip and see what position you like the look of. Can't say for sure as I've not installed one on a fat ps2
Joe Bleeps Thanks mate. O yeah I’ve got my diagrams all sorted but couldn’t quite see from the diagram on the chip mounting position. Really I wanted to know if it was OK to mount the chip on top of a resistor as I have no free space without doing so. I figured I can do long as I use tape to insulate the two components.
Nice, can you please check if action replay ps2 works with this modchip? Burned or original action replay copy from my experience modchips don't support this because it requires you to change discs and doesn't detect the burned ps2 game after you activate the cheats. Thanks
That doesn't look like Kynar wire. Real Kynar wire has a nice silky smooth insulation that has a slight translucency. But good video. I will hopefully be doing this soon on a slim and this video provides a good overview.
Well it was bought as kynar wire on ebay years ago, and we all know how it is with ebay! Maybe I'll look further into it and see if I can get some proper kynar to compare. I use 32awg servo wire for most of my projects but it wasn't precise enough for this one!
Awesome thanks for this video. I just ordered an already modded Ps2 with the same chip. That’s exactly what I wanted so I can play Japanese discs.
Awesome. Yeah much easier to buy one pre modded!
Awesome work! This video came up randomly in my feed, I am now subscribed! Keep up the work 👌🏽
Thanks so much! Really appreciated 🙂

Thanks for all that! And yeah PS1 games work fine with a scart cable (I'm English btw 😊)

Ahhh hahaha that's brilliant. Seems a shame to change it 🤣
I've performed this mod and, it's extremely difficult for noobs and people without proper equipment.

I can empathise with every point you made there! Congratulations for persevering with it!
I really enjoyed installing my modbo. Though, I must admit no picture or video can really show off how small some of these points really are.
Oh don't get me wrong I enjoyed it!
Nice video mate. Gonna give this a go. May reach out for some advice!
Thanks! Good luck

@@chrisj3205 really useful tips, thank you!

love the new vid sir!
Bet that felt like a surgical exam ;)

Ever issue with red screen of death even though modchip boots properly?
Luckily no

Fantastic! Good point about usb 1.1 I hadn't thought of that, I will look into it!
Bro the white and red Wire... Where you can find it plz replay...
Sorry I only just saw this, it's a very thin gauge single strand wire - if you search for "kynar" you should find it

how much would you charge to mod my slim, if at all? It has a modbo 5.0 in it just not soldered.
thanks u Mr joe
