  • I promise I will try and get a battery for these cars and see eventually if I can get them going. I am going on vacation to Myrtle Beach this weekend so I hope you guys have a happy 4th of july and enjoy the videos! In this video I give a full in depth tour of a 2001 Daewoo Lanos. I take viewers on a close look through the interior and exterior of this car while showing details, over viewing of features, and noting unique styling cues to the vehicle itself. I also show the engine and the details of it, attempt to start it up and see if it runs. A thorough tour/review of this car designed to give others a greater overall appreciation of the vehicle.

    DAEWOO was an interesting marque-it lasted about 7 years. Engines came from GM/Holden, transmissions from Aisin/Japan, everything else was sourced from the cheapest sources. The quality was actually quite good, but they lost money on every car they sold.

    My father bought brand one new in 1999 and he used it until January 2018 when the clutch broke and he decided to throw it away because a clutch replacement was worth more than the car itself. Great little car that I do miss dearly.

      Definitely agree had a 2001 leganza that I bought for 800 back in like 2009
      It wasn't a bad car at all, if they still made them I would have considered buying a new or slightly used one after buying a driving the beater one I bought.
      2 years for 800 bucks only had to replace brakes until it died...not bad definitely better than 2 years of payments

    My 2002 Daewoo Lanos suffered engine failure in 2013. It stood on my drive until recently when I had it scrapped. I removed the car battery sometime in 2014 as I needed it for the wife's car.
    Sometime during the summer of 2019 I noticed the deflated airbag hanging out of the steering wheel and when I checked it I found that it had five small puncture holes in it at the front of the airbag. The drivers seat headrest had three small holes in the front of it and one slightly larger hole in the back of it with foam pushed through the hole.
    Since Daewoo had gone into administration in late 2002 and the warranties were taken over by Chevrolet I contacted Chevrolet to inform them of what had happened, THREE TIMES !
    I was told each time that they would call me back and those calls were never returned.
    This airbag triggered without any power available in the car !
    So much for safety in the car industry.
    For the record I am based in the UK.

    I never see Daewoos anymore where I drive (TN/KY). I remember when they were making them, 1999-2002, I was 6 to 9 years old. They were supposed to offer a good value for the money, and I saw a few. They were probably about as common as a Honda Odyssey, not the best selling vehicle in the country but there are a fair number out there. I saw quite a few Leganzas and Nubiras, not very many Lanos's though. I remember thinking that the Leganza was a nice car. By the late 2000's Daewoos had become a rare sight. I've been in a Daewoo once in my life, in Jan. 2013, and I remember thinking it was something special because by then Daewoo had become an unusual car.

    Those cars looked nice for the year and price. The interior is very nice.
    When you tried to start the car and all lights turned off, thats a sign of a bad battery or a loosen contact on battery, a broken ground cable or a bad engine starter. Thats pretty easy to fix. Im sure the engine of that car works, they were reliable. Sadly, people who bought them didnt take care of them.

    starter motor is bad. also looks like it has full tank, but maybe that's because the connection to the fuel pump is not done

    • @MrWolfSnack
      @MrWolfSnack 9 лет назад

      George Iulian Grigore Gas can collect condensation in the tank and over years, that condensation adds to the fuel level and waters down the fuel, making it appear to have more in it. But he wasn't using a booster box, so there was not enough electrical power to kick over the starter or engage the fuel pump.
      In addition to this, the starter was likely rusted from sitting so long, and needed to be whacked a couple times and oiled.

  • @MrWolfSnack
    @MrWolfSnack 9 лет назад +11

    Some car guy you are. Number one, you need a booster box with a high cranking power.
    Additionally, any time a car has been sitting or years, never try to run it without first draining the fuel or taking the pump out of the tank, cleaning it, and running it off a gallon of gas in a pail. You will clog the fuel system if you try starting it on stale gas.
    You also need to check the oil levels and make sure it hasn't turned to sludge. And also remove the head covers and verify that the valves are not rusted or seized. If so, this can ruin the valves, gouge the cylinders, or snap your shafts.
    The cut out was from the starter motor being seized up. Hitting it with a hammer or long pole can sometimes knock enough rust loose to free it temporarily for diagnostic purposes.

    • @MrWolfSnack
      @MrWolfSnack 9 лет назад +1

      *****
      There is a difference between European and American car markets.Europeans treat cars as tools and disposable, so that's the reasoning for the cheaper prices. Also the American market is very oversaturated with cars, so nobody bothered buying them in 2001, and mostly all of them went unsold and were exported. The ones that did sell and do exist here are relatively few, hence the prices. Plus the Pineapple Express movie also had an effect on them too.

    Sometimes, if you have a bad flat battery, the majority of the current draw is trying to bring the dead battery back. Perhaps trying to disconnect the old battery with only the "jumper" battery might be better. Had this happen before when trying to jumpstart a car with a bad battery.

    Its crazy that the car is sitting there abandoned and broken after just 9 years. Shows you the quality of those old Daewoo cars.

    I wonder if the Chevy Cobalt SS's engine and transaxle would drop right in there? From what I understand, the powertrain is GM stuff built under license and that engine's in the same family as the later Ecotecs. The suspension is essentially the same as the Opel/Vauxhall Astra Mk2 GTE, so there should be sufficient aftermarket to build yourself quite the sleeper hot hatch.
