No one ever apologized to him. He went through all that bullshit over a LIE and ended up so upset he stepped away from acting. That never sat well with me.
We possibly could have hade him for later appearances if this had never happened. Don't get me wrong, nothing wrong with Shinada, but I miss the cop boi.

hiroki definitely fits the "childish pretty boy cop" bill, while toshiki feels more like a determined detective
Toshiki also looks more like a jackass, which I feel it fits Tanimura perfectly

I think it's completely possible that they replaced not because the allegations, but because he retired. This way, if they ever want bring Tanimura back they won't have to make an excuse for him looking completely different.

Narimiya look hotter and younger but more of popstar vibe.
But Toshiki one look more badass,More cop vibe,More emotion plus,now good at cheering on karaoke. Not to mentioned that his taunt and battle grunts felt more powerful like dude really fight someone. While Narimiya one is too quiet.
So yeah,After getting all remastered collection games,I'd say Toshiki-san did it way better.
(Imagine he was in 5 and teamed up with Shinada. Man,That would be cool.)

Narimiya returned from his retirement under new alias for some project. It's great but, if RGGS remember Tanimura, I hope they stick with Masuda. And maybe give Narimiya new role for compensation.
The new VA is cool and all but they somehow messed up the sound mixing in some cutscenes.
Sometimes, Tanimura is louder than everyone else.
Hey thanks for mentioning this. I was honestly torn on whether to use the mod or not, but that settles it. If they screwed up the mixing, I'm gonna go with the version that isn't screwed up. Makes the decision easy.
Dude everytime Tanimura gets into a chase and catches someone, he yells OWARI DA so loudly that you can hear the sound peak.
I think mostly they use old audio from the OG game and Tanimura's new actor has a higher-quality microphone
To be fair they were working all 3 remasters so slip this might through the crack but yeah QA so check if the sound mixing was aright

I played the remastered and didn't understand why everyone kept calling him a pretty boy, since even though he's handsome, his features aren't delicate as to describe him as pretty; but the previous actor fits the bill. I don't mind the new look though
that is my main issue with the change of appearance. but it's not too important ig 😭
I like the look of the original more but that probably has more to do with the fact that i played the original yakuza 4 not the remastered one so im used to that Tanimura. Also badass pretty boys amuse me

I've never played the og yakuza 4, but design wise I always thought that the new tanimura gave of noir and mature vibes, but now that I see the og tanimura I feel like it gives punk-ish and rebellious vibe. Love both of them tho
I always used to look at old Tanimura and say he looks too young and make fun of his hairstyle but I feel bad for Hiroki.
I still like Hiroki’s appearance more. There’s just something about his looks and performance. The Remaster one isn’t bad by any means, I do like his performance (even if yes it’s a little over the top sometimes, though I suppose that’s just the nature of the games in general, so maybe it fits), I think it’s more just design of the Remastered Tanimura that rubs me the wrong way, reminds me of an old fusion between Yuya and Yagami.
I dunno, call me old-fashioned, but I’m a Hiroki guy and I played the game on PC for the first time via the Remaster with the restoration mod.
It’s that Narimiya got dunked like that. Just goes to show how fickle one’s reputation is and how things to go sour and ruin things for someone so fast…
He's isn't the only Yakuza/Ryu Ga Gotoku character that got his face change
I think people comparing the two actors aren't realizing that him just being replaced like this is incredibly disrespectful to him and his performance. It'd probably be heartbreaking to have the performance you gave your all into just erased and be filled in by another guy, especially considering that it was a false allegation. Toshiki gave a great performance of course, but I can't support the way they did hiroki.

if i buy this game on steam, can i play the original version? like is there an inbuild feature that allows me to choose either the remastered or the original? because i like the original look of tanimura a lot than the remastered.

I gotta admit and this is separate from performance or even the backstory behind the change, the original had too much of a baby face especially compared to the remaster

I assumed he was voiced and modelled after a celebrity, and the rights to using his image expired, hence he looks different.
I prefer the remasterd look, personally.
and it doesn't help that man was apparently get involved into some kind of scandal a while back, which leads him to gone forever from the entertainment industry
and on an unrelated note, Amuro Ray's seiyuu actually got himself into one after having an "affair" with a female fan quite recently
PS3 look + PS4 voice = perfect.
I never played the originals, so Toshiki is automatically the best one for me.
