    Super nt has an official jailbreak that allows you to load roms

      Yup you get access to most of the library minus some special chip games. You could also go the everdrive route and get almost 100 percent compatibility with games library.

    Pretty slick review. You've got a great voice and delivery for this sort of content. A couple notes I might add are:
    * The included controllers with the SNES Classic have fairly short wires (~3 feet), so unless you have a way to move the console further from the TV you're probably going to sit on the floor.
    * It's fairly easy to add unofficial ROMs to the SNES Classic, but the quality of the emulation is generally poor with disappearing sprites and no hi-res feature.
    * The SNES Classic comes bundled with a finished, previously unreleased version of StarFox 2. The Super Nt comes bundled with a finished, previously unreleased version of Super Turrican, as well as Super Turrican 2.
    * There is a custom firmware for the Super Nt that allows you to backup cartridges to an SD Card and run them from the card itself, as well as store save files on the card instead of the battery system.
    * 8bitdo sells inexpensive adapters for Bluetooth controllers to use on the Super Nt.
    * A genuine Super Nintendo with a lag-free HDMI upscaler costs more than a Super Nt.

    After spending the last couple weeks playing SNES games on a well-implemented FPGA core, I could never go back to emulation, whether through Wii, Switch or a mini console. the responsiveness doesn’t approach that of the original hardware or FPGA.

    One of the best things on the snes controler was the buttons. Not just the way they were formatted, but the shape. The bottom to buttons are pillows while the top 2 are concave. This is such a slight yet amazing design choice which makes it so you dont accidentally push a button you didnt want to and it's just more comfortable.

I never had a Genesis, so that one has been extremely enlightening to play. I think the biggest benefit they offer are their controllers. Playing those retro games with the controller they were designed to be played with is absolute bliss.

    I just tried both on a gaming monitor and you just can’t beat the response time and picture quality of the super nt. I’m sure there’s still some lag but playing just feels so instantaneous with 0 picture noise
    The main downside of a super nt is you better have your Super Nintendo games ready or else get ready to pay up lol. I see people saying you can play roms on it but what’s the point of paying all that money for a console that plays games in real time just to play Roms on it.

      Thanks for the comment! It's really good to hear differing opinions. Here's a few thoughts I had after reading your comment: The SNES Classic Edition has exceptional value. Even keeping it unmodded you have a great collection of games. Though, you can mod it and put whatever games you want on there. Though, the Super NT is not just a Super Nintendo from the 1990's. It's a modern Super Nintendo. It outputs in 1080p which is a better resolution compared to the SNES Classic Edition that outputs in 720p. Also, the Super NT can be jail-broken to play whatever Super Nintendo games you want play off the SD card. Also, the SNES Classic Edition uses emulation to play games. In contrast, the Super NT is an FPGA based system that is cycle accurate to an original Super Nintendo. I thought comparing the two was valid taking into account what each console does.
      Keep in mind that these videos are just for fun and shouldn't be taken as some sort of religious truth. It's good to hear differing opinions. Thanks again for commenting

    And now you can buy a $20 DIY kit from 8Bitdo and convert these to 2.4 GHz controllers that will work with the original SNES. :)

    Great vid! But the Pixel Perfect mode doesn't squish the image lol. It's integer scaled. It's exactly what the size you get on an original NTSC SNES.

    • @NeanderMeander
      @NeanderMeander  3 года назад

      Yep, you're right! Pixel perfect displays uniform square pixels giving games a squished look compared to the 4:3 image you get from playing games on a CRT TV.

    • @LargeNuts
      @LargeNuts 3 года назад

      @@NeanderMeander You're incorrect. It gives you a 4:3 aspect ratio image lol. It is just scaled on an exact integer scale. It isn't a 1:1 ratio lol. It's 4:3 but wont fill out the entire verical space( on a 16:9 display) unless you play on an actual 4:3 display. Versus non integer scaling will fill up all vertical space as each original pixel isn't just 1, 4, 9, etc pixels it can be 1.4, 1.8 etc. Hence integer versus non integer. The point is it isn't square it's 4:3 both of the modes we are talking about are 4:3. Just one is scaled using integer scaling. It isn't squished compared to its original it's exactly the same.

      @@LargeNuts First of all, I'm not going to argue with you on this. You clearly have some point to prove and I'm not one to argue with people. I just want to clarify that I understand that the image is a 4:3 aspect ratio for both. CRT's display images with pixels that aren't perfectly square. They are wider than they are tall. Creating an image that looks a little stretched. Pixel perfect displays the image with perfect square pixels, pixels that aren't wider than they are tall, thus making the image look squished compared to what was displayed on a CRT TV. That is all I'm saying. I know that pixel perfect is integer scaled. I also know that there are people who know way more than I do on this topic. However, I know that when I play a game on a CRT then turn around and play the same game in pixel perfect mode on an HDTV, that game doesn't look at stretched and appears to have a squished look. You're welcome to send me another message with lol's and comments saying I'm incorrect.

      @@NeanderMeander You shouldn't be giving incorrect information. The Pixel Perfect mode doesn't squish the image compared to playing on an original console with a CRT. The point is that it's the same. I have been playing video games for over 35 years and have also been a major contributor to 6 popular emulators as a developer. You have no idea what you are talking about and are making incorrect claims about other people's works. I politely tried to correct your ignorance and explained it to you in the simplest way so you might understand. But instead you were offended you were incorrect and became rude. What a great content creator lol. Going to post this interaction on Reddit to hopefully let more people know in the community what kinds of content creator you are.
