How to build: cut from sprue, realise you're out of glue, leave on table for a week, sit down to build them, realise you still need glue, buy glue, spend all day trying to get the two handed weapons to go right, get ready for painting
I love the idea of the knight. Its perfect for young players (aka the kid of your friend) to be part of a not so serious game. Thank you very much for the idea.
I know this is a year on, but if you shade/highlight in reverse (dark colors on the raised portions, near-white on the inside) that will go a long way for magical effects. Also if you use a bright silver drybrush in sporadic, random places then use speed paint/contrast or alcohol inks, especially transition from one color at the base to another color at the opposite end, that sells it really well
The Imperial Knight is what got me into painting Warhammer 40k. It was also my very first model I got and painted, now there are another still in the box and two baby knights that are complete.
You are correct. Finecast only exists on models that were cast in metal before. They tried to change to a cheaper material without changing the molds. The extra gates were tacked on after the fact when finecast was a terrible failure and they tried to improve the flow of the resin by increasing the gates. The forgeworld models were created with the intention of being cast in resin so they work better as resin.
Absolutely agree. The Knight was an expensive purchase for me having gotten into the hobby very recently. But after learning a lot by painting some of my first minis along the way the model turned out way better than i thought it would have. The Knight is truly a model everyone needs. A true centerpiece even if you don't collect certain armies.
And in your "Storytime" segment, when you brought up the "Killing stuff is the fun part!" aspect made me remember one time I was facing off against an Eldar armor with my Space Marines... I had a Stormtalon doing it's thing, and he decided that it had enough fun, so tried taking it down, but wasn't having much luck. One of his final shots was a Fire Prism that really had not had much luck this game, but figured "Why not?".... and blew it out of the sky with one shot. The reactions was... well, a lot of surprise and some cheers on my friend's side. Mine was "Well. That happened." And it's moments like that, that I love tabletop gaming. :)

Killing units is really fun and I think a really good idea is to put together a small around 500 point army and have a game with no objectives you just fight and whoever has the mini standing wins
Just split a kit of Helverins/warglaives ($125AUD total from GW direct, Roughly $100 from an indie, so a split would be $62.50/$50AUD). Plus, you can use any spare bits to convert it to a wardog or moiraix, paint em up and have fun. Tip though, drybrushing is your friend. Just drybrush some leadbelcher, choose a colour for the shell, put some bronze or another metallic accent on there, shade and you're done. One of the easiest and most fun ways of getting into it.
I'm painting some black power armour at the moment. I start with a black base coat, drybrush it neutral grey, then spray a coat of Gunship (cool, dark) grey just transparent enough so you can still see the drybrushing. It's actualy more of a charcoal grey, but it looks black, and highlights the edges subtly. Oh, and I give it a wash of Nuln Oil too.

I wanna get some Necron characters for my army but I’m turned off by finecast based on a couple of space marine characters I purchase previously. I’m going to hold out until my Necron army is done in hopes GW reproduces them in plastic (Imotekh, Trayyn, Nemesor, and Vanguard Oberon). One can only hope.
April of this year I bought two dominus class knights (Castelan and Valiant) one questoris class (Canis Rex) and a box of armigar warglaves and Helverans. So far I have managed to put together one helveran. And the pile of shame grows larger. 😔
I was given a fairly poorly 3d printed knight by someone trying to convince me to pay them for models. I painted it up as a rusted out relic before learning the lore behind them.
I agree with you on Forgeworld. Aren't their models like over a decade old now? I am debating a titanicus Warbringer only because it's my fav Titan and that way I can say I own one. Same for the Warmaster even tho Titanicus is the only option for it
Finecast is so bad. I was super disappointed when I got my Grey Knight Brother Captain and it was resin. Even though I'm newish to the hobby, that's easily been the worst model I've had to build and paint. Luckily now that I'm getting back into it, I'm paying attention to what I buy so I don't make that mistake again (luckily when I got Grandmaster Voldus a few weeks ago he wasn't fine cast). Once my painting is better though, I'm 100% picking up an Imperial Knight and painting it as a Grey Knight (I know that's not lore accurate, but it would look so cool). That idea of a new guy playing with a random knight just marching around the table sounds so awesome lol.
Have to admit even though I only just got back into 40k and already bought WAAYYYY too many blood angels, there was a bigass knight on sale in a local store for £75 and I kinda regret not getting it. I kinda need a Baneblade too even though it's not a space marine tank. That said for giant mechs also kinda tempted for Tau.
I literally just started on this hobby to help with my metal health, I didn’t know anything more about 40 k other than what the guys in my unit would tell me. I went out and bought this as my first project, should I have started with a smaller set? TIA
been staring at a Imperial Knight for 4 months now ..... I finally now own a Imperial Knight

I want a canis rex and completely magnetize it to every possible knight
I’m tempted to get one and Kitbash the Knight to have been looted by Orks
I was given a fairly poorly 3d printed knight by someone trying to convince me to pay them for models. I painted it up as a rusted out relic before learning the lore behind them.
I agree with you on Forgeworld. Aren't their models like over a decade old now? I am debating a titanicus Warbringer only because it's my fav Titan and that way I can say I own one. Same for the Warmaster even tho Titanicus is the only option for it
I starting make and painting models for 2022 I so going to buy my self a knight as a cap stone
Do you have a tutorial for the metal marine's molten axe? If so, I'd watch the heck out of it.
Have to admit even though I only just got back into 40k and already bought WAAYYYY too many blood angels, there was a bigass knight on sale in a local store for £75 and I kinda regret not getting it. I kinda need a Baneblade too even though it's not a space marine tank.
That said for giant mechs also kinda tempted for Tau.
lord castellan creed best fine cast ever
i AGREE WITH THE TITLE
Everyone Should Have an Imperial Knight: looks at my wallet The wallet don't even think about it.
I literally just started on this hobby to help with my metal health, I didn’t know anything more about 40 k other than what the guys in my unit would tell me. I went out and bought this as my first project, should I have started with a smaller set? TIA
I have a stompa think I might need another
