    One thing I really discovered as a musician, never talk about the audience that’s not there. Talk about the audience that is there. I have seen musicians say, well, everybody left! Well that’s not true. You have four people watching you. The correct thing to say in that situation is, you all are super awesome, thank you for sticking around! Now you probably wouldn’t want to use that lingo on a live stream, but that’s the mindset to have. Be grateful for the viewers you do have. The followers you do have. Don’t focus too much on what you don’t have. Or you won’t have anything.

      @@ImGerry For Twitch the main things I have done are:
      1. Stay true to your schedule. Show up at the same time every week. Think of your stream as a tv show for your viewers.
      2.Have topics/questions ready for when there's quieter moments (aka this video lmao). I follow a bunch of gaming twitter accounts, so I spend my mornings looking through tweets that could be good talking points for fellow gamers.
      3. Stream with friends. This is something that I have done and it makes the experience a lot easier and fun. I play games with my buddies, they are apart of the whole streaming process, and they help get rid of silence when I don't have anything to say.
      4. Play games with viewers. Some people go to twitch to find others to play with, and will go to channels with lower view counts cause they know they'll get a chance to play with someone. I have been playing Super Smash Bros. on stream with viewers and almost always see new faces.
      Not all of these tips will work for everyone, and the last tip isn't super scalable (cant play with every viewer u get) BUT it's whats been working for me thus far. Good luck on your journey!

      Zuki13k cheers dude. I’ve done some of them and kind of working for a while. I’m almost hitting 4K followers on twitch I think my main problem it keeps them watching. Usually, I start the stream with 15 to 20 people but after 30/40min it drops to 5. That’s so sad and makes me feel so shit. I’ll try to focus on RUclips now and also have some topics that I think it’s relevant to my audience to try make my content more engaged. Thanks for the tips and good luck aswell.

    Speak to everyone as if they're a long-time friend, and always ask about their day, find good topics to make for. The more people you talk directly to, the more others feel welcome and know they will have fun.

    As creators our ability to chat (even if there are low views) is a skill more important than gaming.

  • @faithfocals
    @faithfocals 3 года назад

    I'm so grateful for this advice. Most advisors on how to stream just tell us to "Talk about whatever's on your mind" and whatever's on our mind tends to be whatever's happening in the game. I'm a new RUclips streamer, so I tend to bring a monologue topic anyway since I've got to fill an hour or two of stream by myself. I've been worried that doing this would hurt my interactivity, afraid once users discover me they won't chat so as not to interrupt, but until I can ask them to share their point of view, I think bringing thought-provoking topics is my value proposition. This video is so encouraging that I've got it mostly right: if anything, I may need to work on more implicit invitations to chat (like starting with a question), and understanding the audience I'm aiming for. (I'm eying your video on finding my audience in my "Suggested"s right now for my next watch.)

    Always good to have a refresher on this kind of topic. Being able to monologue is incredibly important when the chat gets silent, but it's also important to give them a very open/obvious queue to jump in too.
    Thanks for this video Ashni!

  • @robteaches
    @robteaches 4 года назад +4

    I completely agree Ashni. It’s also good to recognize that conversation needs base knowledge and/or research on a topic and that thought work is really “work”. It takes honest “work” to improve in any field. Do you agree that many streamers don’t put in enough of this “work”? Thanks for the video!

    It's not awkward.
    It's terrifying cause of trolls in JC! :v
    But you're right. I'm slowly getting to be better in talking, currently slowly getting into part 2: ascending the game.
    The funniest part is, I can talk for ages, to myself, HECK, a story: When I was in Spain on student exchange, obviously wasn't streaming but had disgusting amount of time to do whatever, so we would sit and play games with friends that I went with. At some point they pointed out "hey are you streaming or making vids or something? You're talking like crazy when playing games" - they didn't know I actually did stream before. And so I became The Narrator of our sessions.
    But, when I sit and actually stream, I suddenly have tons of blocks, like the awereness of being live for X potential viewers was a switch that would stop me D:
    But, we gotta push past that! :D
    Also, amazing depiction of the average streamer :v

    You’re basically describing exactly what I did on my Instagram live stream last week when I was driving! But somebody popped in and heard me talking and they asked if I was drunk LOL. At the time I assumed this was because they could see me just pretty much talking to myself and driving LOL but maybe it was a different reason or something. Like I can definitely monologue. Especially with something I already know I have an opinion on. Just ask everybody, what did you think about that latest animal crossing update? And then see what they say. Maybe they say things that I agree with or don’t agree with. Or if they say nothing, then I can get my own opinion

    You've done similar videos in the past , but I feel like you singled me out for this one.
    As a DBD streamer ( I'm really trying for variety but DBD is main game ) I sometimes don't always have chat chatting and monologue is something I seem to suck at.
    This video is helpful. Thank you

  • @griffwah8429

    I’ve been doing this recently on my stream, just monologue-ing and asking open ended questions for chat when doing a boss battle so they can respond and I can kinda focus/reply on a loading screen.
    the one that got the most attention in chat was “what do you think happens in the afterlife” which sparked a whole lot of ideas and beliefs. I gave my thought at first which seemed a bit bizarre to say but got a lot of responses and people hung around.

  • @ericafladeland5213
    @ericafladeland5213 4 года назад +1

    This is legit exactly what I’m starting to look at. When my chat is popping it’s fine. But yeah the nights where I only have lurkers (hey I love my lurkers too) I feel the struggle. So I’ve been brainstorming on this very topic. So this video is super timely.

    • @ericafladeland5213
      @ericafladeland5213 4 года назад

      Lol. Soooo. Just doing the digital sticky note on my obs screen improved my ability to monologue tremendously. I streamed for 3.5 hours and had scant dead air. Sometimes chat was popping sometimes it wasn’t. Converted a couple lurks into follows. Night and day difference.

    I typically start my streams by chatting with people. I share what's been going on with me and my family since the last stream, talk about how everyone has been, and watch videos they've linked over in my discord. I don't start in the Just Chatting category though; typically I start in the category of the game I'm going to be playing. Should I start in Just Chatting or should I keep doing it as I have been?

    I talk about what I'm doing in the game all the time. I do that even if I'm not streaming, I've always been a person that was very use to talking to themselves. when I was a kid, I loved playing with my toys by myself, so talking to myself was always something I've been very good at. But even talking to yourself has limits, you run out of things to say.
    So I started streaming again recently and I really love talking about the game I'm playing, so I always say what the plan is, where I plan to go next in the game and so on. So I started with "Might & Magic VI: the mandate of Heaven" anyone know that game? it's very old. a RPG game from 1998 made by New world Computing, a company that no longer exists. I know you heard about Heroes of Might & magic, becayse that's so popular. Well this game is set in the same universe as that one. So yeah, I talk about the game all the time when I play and I ask questions. But still, sometimes you do run out of things to say, even when you talk to yourself.
