Finally decided to make this video concept a reality today, locked in, and spent all afternoon chipping away at it until only the 12 minutes you see here remained. There are game facts, there are information about state of the said character and then it all switches to the meaning of a character. There is your passion and love not only for the way the character plays but what guides you is the same thing that guides Marisa. This is exactly what I'm trying to do as well and seeing someone else drawing life inspiration from perspective of their fav character is just amazing! Great video

I love that she is not self conscious in the least, even though the world says she should be. She’s unapologetic about her looks, but not only that, uses fashion to highlight them. Overall she just inspirational, inclusive and her love knows no bounds. She’s a role model and I would totally apply for marriage if the fight wouldn’t break me in two

Terry Bogard is that character for me. I first played him in smash ultimate, had no idea who he was but thought he looked and sounded cool, he also felt so damn good to play too. Eventually that would lead me to learning about his backstory and the kof games(most notably kof xiii) which would not only solidify my love for the character but fighting games as a whole and I’ve been dedicated to this character ever since. My favorite thing about him is that he is a martial artist but he doesn’t really dress like say ryu or kazuya rather in street clothes which to me its like him having his own style i think that’s what I relate to the most. I’m mad hyped about him coming to sf6 and that new fatal fury game coming out he’s such an important character to me

As far as I know, the only Filipino fighting style that was in a street fighter game was "Arnis" (Stick-fighting) used by Eagle. I hope to see Arnis or Suntukan in Street fighter 6 someday.

I love Marisa so much, I started playing Honda because of how supportive he is in World Tour, where he tells the PC that it takes losing as much as winning to get better and losing is nothing to be ashamed of.

I love this video!! I’m super interested in the way that fighting games convey narrative and character through their aesthetics and gameplay, and what better way to see that than to hear from someone who really clicks with a certain character!
I’ve always thought Marisa was really cool-her win pose is spectacular, and getting told “now you know history” by a roman when she punches you through a wall is awesome-but it’s so much better to hear about her from someone who’s gone to depths with her.
It’s super interesting, watching this it clicked for me that moreso than other fighting games, SF’s characters especially in 6 are concerned with different approaches to combat and improvement. Everyone’s got their own philosophy that meshes super well with their playstyle.

Marisa is a great character. Ibwas scared of her to be the "i am a women hear my roar", but instead she is easy going, like jewellery, she is open to anyone. She is like female goku, which is a lot of fun.

When I main a character in fighting games, it is not because they are great to use, it is because they speak to me on a personal level. Marisa does that for me. Yo! I just wanted to say what a fantastic job on the video. I share this perspective so much. Marisa's philosophies on power, strength, victory and loss keep me glued to her. I don't think I could ever truly give her up despite how 'non-meta' her playstyle may be. She's so unique among the cast and is almost playing an entirely different game. It's why I'm playing Marisa and Manon, despite being not that good with the latter. They are just both so cool, with very fun designs and personalities. Marisa's gameplay is additionally very satisfying. Every hit just feels so impactful.

@@femshepFGC Definitely agree. I was a bit apprehensive when it came to pricing at first, but ultimately couldn't resist buying her Costume 3. Love the Rose of Versailles feel it has.
I main Asuka because I think she’s really cool and reminds me of my sister. Appearance means so very little to me, that’s why I don’t like arguments surrounding them. For me personally I don’t see who has the time to care what other people think. A waste of energy, that’s why I like characters like Marissa, confident in who they are and self assured.
For me Marisa is just pure fun. Even at higher levels when you facing stronger more well equipped characters something about pulling out a win with a character you know shouldn't win or everyone doubts can win is so satisfying. Plus giant lady who hits like an absolute truck whats not to love lol

i love the everything you go into regarding why and how your love for Marisa is cemented so not just in her gameplay, but her character and philosophy too - for me, that’s what SF is all about! it’s pretty funny, because my lifelong main is not in SF6 (yet?!) and i almost can’t help but wonder if that’s why i'd been feeling a sort of restless disconnect with a game i love so dearly. i genuinely consider SF6 to be one of the best entry in the series considering its young age, but still...the feeling of not having a main is pretty impactful! the folks at Capcom are just so damn good at making you connect to a character and i think that’s what i love about the series the most - everyone’s got someone they can relate to and for good reason.
Marisa is AMAZING and i couldn’t be happier for oldskool and newer players alike to be blessed with her presence 😭 thank you for capturing her so and believing in her as you do 💕 she’s on my “i HAVE to learn her someday” list because i still dream of finishing a game with that perfect lvl 3/CA of hers. she’s perfection, and a testament to your excellent taste~ggs

At this point I'm sticking with her just because I love her personally. No gameplay reason other than occasional huge damage.

I absolutely LOVED absolutely EVERYTHING about this video! Super fun to get all of the perspective on why Marisa is more than just her tool kit to you, and some great tie ins to the under-rated arcade mode content.
I have really similar feelings about playing Cammy, and you summed it up perfectly with she's "more than just her gameplay." Part of it is her being the first character in a fighting game I ever put real time into, which also brings with it the experiences & accomplishment I feel like I've "shared" with the character (I literally got a hand tattoo of her beret to memorialize going to my first Evo in 2023). The other part of it is her story, which I feel deeply connected to - Cammy is someone who was taken advantage of, abused, but still came out the other side believing that people are more good than bad & fighting to protect others from going through the same things. Whenever I'm feeling particularly bad, that sentiment really keep me going forward.

Marisa has been my main since day 1 and im not swaping out any time soon
The thing about Marisa is she has a style and personality that is valuable and rare among fighters meaning that even if she's the worst character in Street Fighter there will STILL be players who use her.
Granted she's far from weak but I'm trying to point out why Marisa is still highly valued even among the sea of other fighters.
@@vapersmith7859 She definitely has a unique and fun playstyle in the SF6 meta-not quite a grappler, but the furthest thing from a Shoto or a zoner or a character designed to mostly play neutral with pokes.
You have convinced me to look at her again! I really love her and Manon, but find their combo routes really weird and difficult (and I play Dhalsim, so its maybe just not what I'm used to). But I really love her vibe.

Marisa is painfully easy to bully, HOWEVER she is incredibly fun to play. I see the Bison's and Akuma's walking speed and I want to cry but, when you land those combos and give them "all your love" in the end that's an incredibly satisfactory feeling.

I was going for Akuma originally as he was my main for other SF games but this time around Ed ended up being a pressure character that I couldn't ignore especially when he allows for fast get in and retreat

so, I'm a master modern Marisa main, also got nerve DMG in my hands makes consecutive fast precise movements difficult, or at least takes more practice.
I feel the same way. I think it's important to note Marisa is really only a sketchy pick at the highest level. Though playing bison now , another very strong modern chaR imo. it's made her weakness more apparent
Personally don't really care about the deep lore and never thought about the queer coded things. But I do like her personality!

@@DeshawnBrown-ss8zh I honestly don’t mind the DLC characters but I wish there were less focus on avatar cosmetics, and the character outfit 3 pricing was egregious.
The new characters in 6 are wildly popular for character reasons and it's amazing to see how people want them to be good because they want them back in future games. Marisa and Manon are wonderful characters, so it's a shame that high tournament lvl scuttlebutt makes them seem bad to play as. But Jamie has a gameplan that'll be tournament safe and Lily may just always be too straight forward, but wow do people like the ideas and designs. They all feel so modern, fit with the classics well, and it's nice that Guilty Gear isn't the only mostly well known fighting game with openly queer characters anymore.

She's still my favorite character on the roster, but taking time to play someone with an OD reversal has been like drowning and finally getting a breath of fresh air. Holy shit it's been so nice. I'm praying for the next patch to be kinder to our muscle mommy. I miss the big swings and Enfold.

"A woman like me is literally in the game" is not something that any amount of direct or indirect nerfs can offset. She's your waifu.
I've been playing fighting games actively for about 16 years. Back in the day, legendary player Justin Wong publicly committed to using Iron Fist in the then-new Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. As an Iron Fist enthusiast, I was happy not just to see that char in the game, but also to have the reassurance that one of the best in the business is gonna make sure that he's competitively viable, no matter what.
Well, Justin Wong changed his tune within about 3 or 4 weeks, saying he couldn't figure out how to make him work. Iron Fist has some unique quirks that make him very difficult to perform well with, so he effectively disappeared from the competitive scene, except for Weeberman.
I ran into the same issues as everyone else interested in him, and as the power level of other characters went up over time, Iron Fist fell by the wayside for me.
As a Marisa main, I saw how her power diminished from season 1. Before, I could work hard and earn a checkmate setup if I landed a level 3 against an opponent that was burned out and meterless. But they took that away from her. And they also gave everyone a reversal that removed the pressure she used to be able to force in certain matchups. Not to mention the fact that her armor generally loses to many high tier chars' party starter button, c.MK.
Due to that, and Marisa being dropped by effectively every top player who used her, I decided to start playing other chars and damn if it isn't stark just how much less work they need to put in to perform consistently.
Marisa is not very far from the bottom on anyone's season 2 tier list.
I think in this video you said Ken is your secondary char, and I think that's about as good a mindset as one can have about char selection in a competitive context.
For my first few years playing the game Under Night, I mained Akatsuki, a char with a slow fireball and very short range on most of his attacks, who was a struggle as a human guest char in a game full of demon lords. At a certain point, I got fed up, and decided to pick up a pocket Gordeau, aka the top 3 or top 1 char at the time. Any set where I started to get salty about not performing, well, I could just switch over to the "pocket" top tier and teach my opponent who was actually better at the game.
Being stuck with an underperforming character is probably a recipe for quitting a fighting game. Having a top tier alternate gives you the benefit of winning when you're ready to, and cashing in on an investment in a character that will likely reap buffs over the lifetime of patches for the game. If not in season 2, then maybe 3, 4, or 5. Look how Aki players are eating now compared to when they were struggling at first. Now, a lot of top players would put Aki in the top 5. Similar for Gief.
@@ITNoetic I definitely hope that learning Ken both gives me that confident alternate and just makes me stronger with my fundamentals in general, which will indirectly strengthen my Marisa, too.
Marisa is and always will be one of my favorite fighting game characters. She is the first character i feel like i truly meshed with in a street fighter game. I will continue to play her to prove the doubters wrong.

She's effectively the game's only tank type character. Which is my play style in every fighter. Some characters might have similar gameplans but don't have the disrespect factor of an armored play style. I mained aganos and tusk in killer instinct, played hulk in marvel 3, Abigail in sfv and nemesis in mvci. This type of character is just my specialty. Personally, I think she is really good in a lot of mus but what big bird said is valid is it's more the tournament setting and the volatile nature of sf6 currently. If the game gets slowed down later on her play style would probably be a lot stronger.

Season 2 is fantastically balanced like unprecedented levels of well balanced, but Marissa and Manon are unfortunately in this”functionally suboptimal” category. But if you’re not a pro going after paychecks, play what you like!
For reference I’m in pretty much the same boat with my main Juri who’s just like me frfr (she’s even presented to be queer too!), does this mean I should work on being a less toxic person yes sure but for now lemme have my fun in SF. She is also directly design influenced by Jolyne from Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure whom I am quite a big fan of considering yknow she’s my pfp on this RUclips channel and all. Also a big thing for me in fighting game mains is a speedy character which she clearly is. In this case Juri happens to have been fairly strong in season 1 and top tier as heck in season 2, but to be honest that’s not really relevant for my level of play I’m not going after paychecks or anything

Playing characters for the love of them is half the reason i play fighting games, im an unironic Twelve player in sf3 because i love the lil guy.
I love playing big body characters cause im a big guy too which are notoriously bad in games.
Playing who we love is so important to keeping us playing, having that personal connection is important and what brings into this wonderful genre in the first place.

@@femshepFGC i played zangief and jpat launch but switched around for awhile but i didnt really feel comfy on a character until bison came out, he just fits my hands and i always enjoyed bisons play style, not well enough to take advantage of his high tier potential though lol
It's mindset i think. I love Marisa. Her mixup and damage is always fun. But if i was playing for money i would definitely pick Akuma or someone strong. But for online with no stakes I'll do whatever. Like i am gonna get E Honda to Masters next time i rank up. Because he can win even being low tier. He just have to play perfectly and punish people for not playing perfectly. Better characters just have more room for error since they have options and more abilities to make comeback or keep pressure on their side
Yeah, sounds a lot like what Big Bird has said about Marisa. It's not that she can't win---it's that her ability to do so is volatile and prone to swinging hard towards a perfect KO either for or against her favor.
Nice. Vulnerability is still a strength.
I main Marisa and probably will until the end of SF6's lifespan because she is so cool and big and strong and hits hard and fights honestly (lookin at you JP).

@@UltraSnance I actually disagree on this point because so much of Marisa’s neutral game is structured around Gladius. She plays neutral very differently from most of the cast, which is I think a big part of why I’m finding it difficult to learn a Shoto now as my secondary.
@@femshepFGC At a high level I totally agree. But I still feel like if you enjoy any character in this game you can find a way to play them at a simple enough level to just learn basic footsies. I more mean like first week of the game type stuff. But getting invested in the character for long term is def rough. Although we’ll have to see what they do with her patch wise.

Some people may just find her a cool and appealing character or may just like her playstyle/game plan. But even if you're concerned about winning there's plenty of reason to play Marisa. You are basically not part of the meta until you reach legend or 2000 MR at the very least. So you lose nothing by playing her. At lower levels Marisa is a very destructive character and in fact has one of the highest win rates. So it's kinda stupid to think that she's holding you back.
I really hope she’s here to stay. Her design stands out the most out of the newcomers imo.

I main Zangief. I always wanted to. I have been playing Street Fighter since vanilla SF2. I have never been really good. I got almost competent with Vega in Alpha 3. Zangief has been my favorite lore character from the jump though. Those damned 360s and 720s kept me from ever getting even close to good. Modern controls changed that. I am still not great, but I have played SF6 longer than any other title in the franchise since Alpha 3. I may never hit up tournaments and all that, but I am having a great time in beautiful battle.

@@femshepFGC but we can! modern medicine can make anyone into modern Marisa! all jokes aside i wish i was stacked like Marisa! if i could get on some performance enhancing substances to make me into a super soldier id do it no questions asked! we cant all be at Marisas level physically but thats ok too! i lived in the gym for 30 years and still had limited physical gains but i did get strong. im happy in the body im in but when i play video games i will choose the characters i resonate with too! cant wait for the next video! also a heads up idk what i did for notifications but i think i got notified late for this video. going to redo my notifications for your channel so i dont miss anything in the future!

I think Marissa is probably the worse character in the game, next to Zangief. Her attacks are so distinct that it's so easy to react to everything she does.

Marisa, as a character, is wholesome, but her design is terrible. Then again most of the designs in sf6 are bad imo. That is why i didn't pick up the game. The new character designs are pretty bad for all them.

It feels really good to make 1hp comebacks. Shes the closest thing to Alex from SF5. I can have fun playing really smart and taking my time to approach and i can also have just as much fun going full ape mode and just hitting all the buttons, so her high risk high reward play just works for me.
