How to fix the "Black Display Issue" in Audi A7 2010 and up, Audi A8 2011 and up, Audi A6 2012 and up.
I swear I almost never comment, but anyone reading this and how think this is to good to be true, I can tell you I felt the same way. But other comments of it working made me continue down the wire until sure enough BOOM!!!! There it was broken….😯 I followed the instructions and my screen is now working!!!!! THANKS AGAIN SIR FOR POSTING THIS VIDEO. This is why I love the internet!!!!!
I just popped everything out, and sure enough! 🫣 the wires were both broken!
I just did this today. Literally EXACTLY what you said. It took me a while to realize it was the A2 fuse on the passenger side, but once I did, it worked like a champ. Thank you so much.
The wires were shorted, that is why the fuse was blown also.
Do you have the fuse diagram by any chance? Is the Fuse 5amp? Mine seem to be all fine, but the screen is still black, after fixing the wiring issue
@@fishinghook3549 it should be on the panel that covers the end… on the passenger side of the dash.
i have no fuse in A2 ?
Thanks for guidance. You were spot on - both my power wires were broken! Saved me a fortune, thanks, very, very much!
Man Audi quoted me $1,400...glad I was able to repair it from this video.
Did u get new wires or what
Thank you for taking the time to make this video!
Audi wanted $170 to diagnose the problem, I fixed it myself it was very straight forward.
Just to be clear, I don’t blame Audi they need to make a living too. But now I can pay them to do something else.
Does replacing the display screen require the dealer to 'program' it or can it be simply done as a plug and play? I have a 2013 Audi A6
This video deserves more likes and more views. Thank you so much for sharing this video, it helped me discover how to replace my clients vents. He had broke one of his vent clips with an iPhone holder and luckily, this video helped me with all the pinpoints how to replace his entire vent system. Thanks so much.
Thanks for the details!! I’m so glad you mentioned about how far up the wires would be broken. Almost gave up too soon. Appreciate it!
Very helpful! I was able to fix the issue in 30 mins with my soldering kit. I’d recommend using 16-18 gauge automotive wire. Super simple fix.
I did the wires and still no display
Thank you the wire gauge is exactly what I was looking for in the comments.
My screen would not light up.
This video showed the exact reason what the problem was and how to fix it. The wire was broken in the exact same spot.
Easily saved thousands of dollars that an Audi dealer would have charged.
Thank you so much.
I just finished up, had to go back out there and check the fuse again, after reading everyone's comments; it didn't look popped but when I swapped out the fuse, it started working. Thanks to @HiTechElectronic holding it down in the west side! All the way from Texas, much appreciation for this video. I've been riding with no display for about 6 months, didn't even think of taking it to the dealer, they wanted about 2k for front and rear brakes. So I knew it would be in the ballpark of a thousand dollars I'm just guessing. When taking off the tape, see if you can find the part so you can just unwrap it, you might need to also cut some areas with some electrical scissors and don't give up, keep going all the way through the Y area until all the tape is gone, my cables were just bare in one spot, I used 18/2 low voltage power wire and scotch locks to add about 8" of length, but I need to go back and maybe tie wrap or clean up the wires because it's getting in the way of opening and closing. Started on Christmas Eve, took a break and went back out there around 1am Christmas Day to check a fuse that I had already checked, but it was bad all along, just because a fuse looks good either test it for continuity or make sure it works.
Great guidance! Odd that BOTH of the wires were broken when I removed the insulation. Good idea replacing the existing wires with more flexible ones, I was surprised how rigid the wires were.
Amazing!!! My 2012 A6 screen when out, I followed you video and it was broken right where you said. The Fuse did blow during the process, luckily I had a spare 5 amp fuse.
Bro you saved me $400, Audi was going to charge that just to open the dash. Thank you for this video man, it's great! Everything worked just like you said.
S/N Make sure you change the fuse. It's on the passenger side panel!
This video saved me about $2500 I love you !
Exact issue that happened.
Unravel that wire shield just past the Y and sure enough, broken, AND the fuse was popped. (Its on the passenger side for those looking 5amp)
Thank you for this great video
Thank you I followed your video and was able to fix my screen . Just like you said the cable broke . Thank you very much I just saved a lot of money 💰
Thanks a million for the advice! Your video was extremely helpful! Audi dealer wanted to charge $3-4K for head unit/screen replacement. Found used replacement on ebay for $300 + followed your video, plug and play! 10 mins total time to repair. Much appreciated!
Just finished fixing my Audi A7 MMI using this video. Thanks for your guidance it went flawlessly.
Your solution was perfect. My wires weren’t completely broken but the insulation was off. The wires touched and torched the fuse. Put in a new wire and fuse. Everything is great again. $3.00 repair when I was afraid it could be high dollar
Craig Dellinger hi where is the fuse located
Where is the fuse located
Hola maestro puede ser un fusible solo ?
Thanks for the Video man. I have a question. Can you link me the type of the Wire what you bought for replacing it? I would be very thanksful!
Did you ever find out what kind of wire was needed?
@@latoniajames2750 just like normal wire man
Great video very useful. I wish I read the part about the fuse sooner 😄
Had the same problem. Helpful video. Repaired the cable and replaced the fuse. Thank you
Where is the fuse for the screen for the screen located?
Thank you! This video saved me a ton of money! Great explanation and demonstration! Two thumbs up!
Awesome video- great job laying it out and showing the fix! Thank you!!!
Very helpful video. I wish all videos were this well done. Fixed my screen!
Thank you Bijan,
You saved me a lot of money.
I just repaired mine, I removed the wrap around the cable held down by the plastic zip tie (data cable). It had one wire broken and one wire barely hanging on..I just reconnected them with the silver crimp connectors, replaced the fuse and it's working great..it even looks a little brighter.
thank you for this video, I repaired my screen, the 2 cables were cut and were also short, greetings from belgium
Thanx a lot mate , i fixed my A6 display today with your help , thankew so much for uploading this video 🙏
Worked for me as well. Really easy fix. Didn’t need to solder the wires. Just reattached using same wire and worked fine. My fuse also didn’t blow.
Thank you so much for posting! It was exactly as you said and a fairly easy fix. Probably save me a thousand dollars. Make sure to stress that this will blow the 5 watt fuse for sure in the passenger side fuse box so make sure to change it after sautering the wires.
Worked perfect. Two broken wires and a popped fuse , thanks!
Thank you for making this video, it's really well done with simple straightforward instructions. One question: when replacing the screen for a 2013 Audi A6, does the dealer need to program it or can one simply swap it and plug in the new one?
No need programming, Plug & Play.
@@HiTechElectronic Thank you!!
Great video! Fixed my 2013 A7 today. My MMI was blowing fuses and this was the problem. Took about an hour being careful. Found the problem 4" from connector.
En tu caso solo era el fusible no eran los cables rotos?
@@gomezestadilla1078 broken wires behind MMI
It worked! Thank you!
Unfortunately due to the motion of the screen, it degrades the wire over time.
Lucky for me the retraction string is broken too 😁
Greatly appreciate the video! Can't thank you enough. Truly grateful 🙏
My wires were exposed but not cut, maybe melted plastic. and the fuse was blown. Taped the exposed holes and new fuse and it’s fixed. Who knows how much I saved. 2 places said wouldn’t touch it. Video was very helpful in finding the problem.
I did it! Easy peasy lol. Thank you! Two wires exactly and make sure you check the fuse after.
Can confirm, same issue on our 2013 A6. The same wires were previously repaired but broke again. Found two that were damaged.
On my car it was in the exact place. Thank you for saving me a lot of money!
This video is 10 out of 10 .... wow I fixed 1 car today
You just saved me 900 dollars Thank you 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks for sharing this information. My issue was identical and a relatively easy fix thanks to the step by step.
Thank you for your video! Saved me a lot of money! Perfect guidance
Thank you. I will do this today to fix my A6.
The screen flickered after I took a hard turn and the next day it turns on a tiny bit, then becomes blank. All functions still work, same as in this video.
Did this fix your problem?
Thank you! I ended up doing this on my friend's car and it worked perfectly. Two days later, his power steering apparently failed and he says his audio control buttons on the wheel also failed. Can these two be related to the fix? I followed your video to the T.
It is not related at all.
thanks for the video, i used it to dismantle this part of the dashboard, because a friend put a pencil behind the screen, which did get under the screen, locking the mechanism in the middle all time lol.
Mane I took everything apart and started separating the wires and was like they ain’t broke and went a little further and sure enough both of them broke. Not hard at all appreciate the help
Thank you for posting this!
THANKS , YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME
Hi, Is there a link on where to purchase the new wires that connect the mmi screen? In my 2012 Audi A7 i ordered a new mmi screen just to be safe and when i switched it yesterday from the old one which was working but was dark the same thing happened. the new screen is still dark. Do you sell the new wiring? thank you again for the video made exchanging the mmi screen extremely easy.
Nice one. Same problem with mine, easy fix
Very helpful. However, IT was not the wires for me. I check every wire in there. So when the Display opens it trips the 5v fuse of the display. Anything else I should check?
Merci!! problème résolu grâce à ta vidéo!!
Thank you really appreciate your videos
Good job & well done! 👍🏻
Hi mate I have a issue with my hazard switch. all indicators work except the hazard switch. I replaced the switch but no luck. my hazard switch has 2 wires connected to it but yours has 3 wires. is that correct? could you do a video on the hazard light switch. thanks
Can you please tell me where is the fuse located for the mmi 12v Audi A6 2016 ?
Thank you
Great job.
Great job sir.
Can it be shut off so it does not retract open and close ? Thanks
I have this issue but when I hold down media to switch to the add on car play that use the aux video in - then that displays fine! So screen is getting power - but the signal from the main unit itself is getting interrupted - which is weird as the external AV input goes through the same unit I suppose and that works fine (car play). Has been fine for a year since the CarPlay was added and now flickering at times and then black.... no clear direction on cause. :-(
What fuse will it be? And wich fuse box
What kind of wire should i use? Do you sell it??
What about if the screen works perfectly but every so often the screen switches of for around 12 secs and comes back on but when it's off the radio n Bluetooth etc won't work...I pulled it out but no wires visibly damaged??
Hey Brother great video. Would this work on a 2009 Audi Q7? Thanks in advance.
No, it won't.
I have the same problem but no good with splicing and adding wires anybody in UK that can do this West Midlands?
I love you men ❤️👏👌👍
Thanks very much for the video. The MMI screen on ny 2012 A6 does not pop up. I tried the reset procedure by pressing the Menu, joystick and top right buttons at the same time for a couple of seconds with the ignition on. There is a clicking and whirring sound, but the screen does not pop up. The radio does not play either. Would you have any suggestions as to what the problem maight be? Thanks
Do you have audio when playing CD?
@Denzil Pinto The MultiMedia Player needs to be replaced or repaired.
@@HiTechElectronic Thanks for your reply. I can see from your video how to remove the monitor. How do I remove the MMI unit? The buttons for the radio, media etc do not light up when pressed.
great job
Could this be a similar fix for a 2011 A1?
There’s rattling coming from my dashboard any idea of what it could be?
Great vid!
Hi I have a 14 A6 Premium when I brought the car the screen wasn't working properly so I changed out the headunit for a flip out android 12.3 inch I love the new headunit but I still can't use any of the MMI settings especially the language part because the car has been in German since brought it about 2 months ago. Is there a way that I can get to the language setup on the dash? Or I have to change it thur the MMI system. As I mentioned earlier I have the android headunit in now but it came with the CAN BUS cable so I can switch back and forth from the factory MMi system to the android but when I switch back to the factory MMI system the screen is still black but I can use all the options. So I guess my questions is how do I change the language from German to English if I can't access the menu thru MMI ant help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks
You should be able to do it by using Audi Programming software. Check with your Audi dealership or an Audi technician who is a computer savvy.
My car has done the exact same thing on a a6 C7 what fuse number and location do you have to replace if you don’t mind me asking thanks
Passenger side fuse box, number 4 left under. It is a 7.5amp
wich part i have to order my friends to fix this?
Please watch the video again.
mine is frozen. so even after doing factory reset it goes in and comes back out and shows audi logo + MMI on screen and just froze on that. any tricks for me ?
What if the connector itself is bad where can I get it. Thanks in advance for your help
We have not had any bad connectors yet.
@@HiTechElectronic My car is doing the same thing and the shop that I took it to said the wire broke right in the connector, and he said there isn't a inch of wire to solder.
I also would like to tell you thank you. Your video was what I reference to and show them because they were thinking it's the display monitor! Thanks again bro👍🏾
can i only cut the wire instead of repair and change
You could but it would happen again.
Thx Habibi ❤
Thank you help my audi a7🍻🍻
Thanks
What gauge wire should i be using? Thanks!!
18 gauge, Silicone wire.
Nice bro
The monitor stopped moving in mine how to fix it
I got 2012 audi a7 my screen starting to do that where can i order the part
What part ?
I have a question, i have the same problem in my a6 with the screen but in my car it dont play the audio, so i have a blackscreen and no audio, do you maybe know what it can be.

@@ardit8042 MultiMedia Player in the dashboard needs to be repaired or replaced.
HiTechElectronic Do you mean the display that pups out wright? Do you think it is a technical problem or a problem with the cable?
What gauge is the wire?
You could use 16 or 18.
I had the same issue tried doing the instructions on the video all my wires are in good shape, i change the head unit module and still my screen is black please someone guide me as to what else the issue might be, checked fuses, wires, took it to Audi, changed the screen, and nothing my screen is black the problem first started i had horizontal lines all over the screen, then when i changed the screen it has been black all the time
Check the power in the plug with a test light or volt meter.
What's the name of the part? What does it cost?
What part?
@@HiTechElectronic is it a wire set, harness?

Yes, it should work.
What kind of bluetooth issues you got? Mine is just turning on and off all time. Tryed to reset to factory settings but did not help...
What a dumbass thing. At least my control head didnt die lol. Thanks for video
The problem with my screen is that it just won’t come out when I turn the car on or when I press the button

👍👍👍 thanks. So this is a known problem by Audi and that fk dealer wants to charge me $$$ …
I did everything but it still not working very disappointed in myself
Check the fuse also.
If it’s not your wiring it’s the second fuse on the passenger side fuse box. Had the same issue and that fuse was blown. It’s the second 5amp fuse on the passenger side fuse box
