As long as you're feeling good about your reading, that's good enough! The Sorcerer of the Wildeeps was such a cool novella. And Sush and I both loved The Warm Hands of Ghosts. It takes place in fall through spring, with lots of coldness, so I could see waiting until fall or winter to pick it up.
In my opinion, any books that get read off planned TBRs are a win! 🌟📚
i'm happy you're still enjoying your reading year! a tbr sometimes stresses me out, so i only pick around 10-12 books to read for the whole year & the rest is up to my mood 👻
Ooh I adored The Shadow of The Wind so I cant wait to hear your thoughts.
I’ve had some great reads this year so far: The Coast Road, Unseen City, The Heart’s Invisible Furies, The Road to Nowhere trilogy, Sword of Kaigen, Soldier Son trilogy, The City of Last Chances, The Safe Keep, North Woods…just an excellent year so far.
I love these check ins.
For a completed self-published sci-fi trilogy, I recommend The Waystations Trilogy by N.C. Scrimgeour. It wasn’t anything groundbreaking but I had a lot of fun with it and it actually had unique aliens! With a little bit of romance scattered into its universe is ending plot lol
I loved The Warm Hands of Ghosts but I would probably recommend not reading it during the summer for vibes, haha. It feels like a very wintry and rainy historical horror book to me, so I would lean towards fall or winter
Fionavar Tapestry by Guy Gabriel Kay. Also Martha Wells, her standalone Well of the Infinite. Perfection. I also couldn't finish Witch King, you're not alone.
I might have DNF'd _Lessons in Chemistry_ if I had read it with my eyes, but I remember really enjoying the audiobook narrator so I found it pretty good doing chores and crafts listening, all things considered.
Yeah, the audiobook narrator was definitely the best thing about that book.
i think my mid year check in is actually acknowledging that we are now in the 7th month of this year. Definitely need to prioritize the books I said I was going to read this year. I am so curious about Sorcerer of the Wildeeps and keep checking out the ebook and then not picking it up.
For a completed selfpub sci-fi series, I'd highly recommend The Waystations trilogy by NC Scrimgeour!! You are doing so well with your goals though, and I love the plans for the 2nd half of the year. Warm Hands of Ghosts definitely has chilly vibes, I'd read it when it's getting moody outside again haha. Happy reading 🤩
I'm definitely reassessing what I prioritise in the second half of the year. Like finishing series where I actually enjoy the first book, why not just keep reading in that series?
👻 full on sanderson (oathbringer/Bands of mourning) i want to start Wolf (probably December😊) 🎶
I've read 11/24 books on my physical TBR for the year, which would be great except for the fact that I've swapped out several books on the list😅 In my defense, two of them were just different books by the same author and a few were books that I'd bought in the same time era. I'd also initially put nonfiction on my list, but quickly realized that I cannot put nonfic on any TBR list because I just won't do it, lol. But since over 40% of the books I've read this year have been from my shelves, I'm not feeling too guilty!👻
I only had one goal for this year, and I've achieved it, which was finishing Malazan: Book of the Fallen. Now, I have to go finish the Novels of the Malazan Empire and I also really really want to start Brandon Sanderson, and hopefully I can start Stormlight this year. I'll probably go Elantris -> Mistborn -> Stormlight? Unless I'm just too curious about Stormlight and too lazy to read the other things before, which might happen
I've done a 24 books in 2024 and so far i've read 10, but i'm currenlty in the middle of 2 more. So in terms of reading the books that i wanted to, i'm doing a pretty decent job. In terms of loving them, it's been a very mixed bag so far.
I've been interested in the Red Mars trilogy as well, but i keep putting it off. So, if you wanna do a buddy read for it, that might give us both some motivation to pick it up
The Shadow of the Wind is such a good book. I find it great standalone. I was gifting it that year at all birthdays.☺️ But there are more books in that series. I believe characters are connected but I don't know.
I am feeling the same way about The Warm Hands of Ghosts! I adore Katherine Arden and want to form my own opinion on it but the reviews I have seen have been lukewarm.
I stopped making yearly TBRs because I always forget about them 😂
