I have only read 9. I have quite a few more on the tbr, and a bunch I have no interest in.

I think nonfiction should have its own separate list.

Station Eleven was a phenomenal show even if it deviated from the book a bit.

I picked up a Blake Crouch novel once and DNF'd it before I had reached the end of the first page. Not sure if I've ever bounced off an author so hard before! 😂

After you read The Saint of Bright Doors, I encourage you to seek out and read some reviews of the book! Doing that really helped me to figure out some of the things the book was doing that flew right over my (white, Western) head while I was reading.

I also struggled with the familiar, I assumed it was just me/bad timing, but maybe it's not 🙃

Bought It Lasts Forever and Then It's Over the last time I was at a bookstore, The bookstore person I was talking to sang its praises to the sky "Best book of the year!" Started it at dinner that night and after confronting its zombie characters -- usually the number one guarantee of schlock -- I'm just really puzzled how this is going to turn out to be the best book of the year. I'll keep reading to see. but,,,,

Yes. I'm very excited for you to read these! I was introduced to the Ursula K Le Guin award by you and have been waiting for your video of this year on it. I'm especially curious on your take on the Saints of bright Doors.

Siege of Burning Grass has a very interesting premise, but it was a slog to get through. The pacing was slow. There were unanswered questions. The main character was a bit too idealistic for me.

I really, really loved Some Desperate Glory! The only other one I've read is Saint of Bright Doors, which I didn't like as much, but I do think is an incredible book and the kind of book that makes sense for awards. My main issue was expectations vs reality where the synopsis and first chapter or so set a certain tone, but the book itself was much heavier than the tone suggested it would be. So just be aware going in that it deals with some very heavy topics, and I think you'll enjoy it!

Oooh definitely some fun picks that weren't on my radar at all! I am super curious to hear what you end up thinking of all of these books, especially Saint of Bright Doors. This sounds like a really fun award 🤩

I would say Premee Mohamed is not always dense. I run hot and cold on her books too, though. But I'm hoping Siege of Burning Grass will be another hot one for me.
