    Ah it sucks you've had a rough month, but glad you sound like you are on the mend. Bloody nerve pain in the back is a such an annoying pain as its really hard to escape at times. Very excited for The Skin and It's Girl.

    After you reviewed A Sorceress Comes to Call, I decided to pick up the book immediately and read it in 2 days. I couldn't put it down. It was such a delight. I think Memory was a highlight (although I can't believe that was this month because it feels like ages since I used it as my moving companion) and Faebound was an even more disappointing lowlight than I had expected.

    I've been having a reading block 😢 but I just moved (to Spain from Germany) and started a new job (which is awesome) and my husband can't join me yet. So it's been a bit of stress and anxiety 🙈 usually reading stories is the biggest comfort, but I can't relax and focus enough after work - to be fair, I also read a lot of scienc-y stuff for work 🤔 anyways, your videos are a source of comfort. 😊 so thank you for what you do! And I hope your nerve pain gets better soon! 🤗🍀

    I'm adding that new T. Kingfisher to my list of potential suggestions for my library to purchase.
    I've had very little reading momentum this year, but I want to rebuild it this month.

      Same, I think I am starting off ok, and got myself to read and walk instead of nap this afternoon. So that feels like an accomplishment

    A Sorceress Comes to Call is indeed weirdly cozy, but there's also headless horses and dead people, and it works 🤣
    Also really intrigued by Haunt Sweet Home!
    My standouts of September were Hell of a Witch by Rachel Aaron and Thank You For Listening by Julia Whelan 🤩

    For September I only read 3 books but they were all five stars: Ninefox Gambit, The Jasmine Throne, and The Will to Battle (which was a carry over from August). These were also all immersion reads, so I think that's why I read fewer books.

      That’s interesting, I tend to read more when I immersion read cause its slightly faster than my normal reading speed

    I agree about A Sorceress Comes to Call. It's up there as one of my favourites from her!

    My reading momentum has been pretty low too, but that's just been this whole year for me. 😅 I've been in a kind of quiet lit-fic mood and have been able to find a few things that work for me, at least. I've got holds on both The Skin and Its Girl and Haunt Sweet Home, but the wait lists are long! Hopefully I'll get to those soon too.

    Speaking of T. Kingfisher, I am currently reading Nettle and Bone! A Sorceress Comes to Call also sounds good! I read a lot of good books in September, including finally getting to Rhythm of War, which was nice. Glad the Vorkosigan books continue to be fun reads!

    🧙🏾‍♀🐎September was more quality than quantity for me as well. I also read 6 books, but found a couple new favorites. I want to bring my reading momentum higher to finish 2024 with. Hoping for the best.

    I’ll be interested in if your thoughts change on Long Live Evil once you get to more reveals. I think she’s very much doing what she thinks a villain would do.

      I will say as I was reading Long Live Evil I did think it was going to either really work for people or really not. 😅

    My September was good in terms of quantity (and quality, actually). It's a funny contrast to your below-average, though: I read 3 books and 1 short story, lol. The books were
    - Tudo É Rio, by Carla Madeira, a Brazilian book (don't know if it was translated to English), which I REALLY LIKED, easy 5 stars;
    - The Poppy War, by RF Kuang, which was good but I thought the writing was very much telling me things instead of showing them, specially with the feelings of the main character, so I "only" gave it a 4 stars;
    - Orb Sceptre Throne, by Ian C. Esslemont, which was BY FAR the best ICE book so far, imo (this is the 4th Novel of the Malazan Empire). It is a direct sequel to Toll the Hounds, and that one is tied in my number 1 spot in Book of the Fallen, so this book picking up right after the end of TtH was both very dangerous and also a great boon to the book. It could have made it much worse if it sucked, but it was pretty cool and I already loved the characters, so it was great! 4.5 stars, great stuff
    The short story was "Ele" by my friend Alexander Almeida. So yeah, good month of reading. But it also put me way too much back into my Malazan groove, and I'm perilously close to deciding to reread it next year (after I'm done with the Novels of the Malazan Empire and whatever's released of the Kharkanas and Witness trilogies, lol)

    Your problems with Long Live Evil - in terms of character and weird cringey dialogue is kinda my problem with Become A Dark Lord and Die Trying… a pause for me too rn 😢
    I keep reaching for light hearted /cozy books thinking I like them after T. Kingfisher, but no one can do it like her! A sorceress comes to call was a 5 from me :))

    I'd say there's also another category of T. Kingfisher's works - her middle grade/YA stuff. Easily my favorite part of her work 😎
    No romance (her romance sadly doesn't really work for me - glaring at you, third act conflict of Swordheart), and no horror, but still full of good banter, whimsy and humor. Chef's kiss, imo! ☺
    My September reading has been aggressively meh, 3 star read after 3 star read 🥲with the exception of the Gilded duology by Marissa Meyer, which I started reading late in September. It has been such an unexpected delight! I have read all of the Meyer's other works (except her 2024 YA DnD contemporary romance release) and they have all been 3 stars for me, so picking this up on a whim and enjoying it so much is so much fun! 😁 I will probably finish it in the next few days or so
