One of the best things about The Expanse was that it eschewed a massive 'history' dump at the beginning and whenever new settings were encountered. Show, don't tell.
On the other hand, I would like them to delve into the lore a little bit. Even having read the books, I still have no clue how the administrative divisions on Earth look like, let alone the coastlines.

So, yeah... it's a pretty authoritarian government...
C. Caner, Well put. What makes the U.N.in The Expanse fascinating is they aren't an Evil Empire. They are a civilization trying to make the best of a bad situation. It's made even clearer in that only a few characters from Earth are truly evil (e.g. Mao).
@C. Caner Telimenli I'm not saying the UN its outright evil, I'm just saying it's somewhat authoritarian. I understand the measures taken to preserve human civilization on Earth, but we have to admit that many of the decisions made by the UN are pretty much assholish. That's all...

Are there any insights in how the Earth looks like at the beginning of the Expanse novels? With sea levels rising, the coast are bound to look different. Books mention that the Hague (where the U.N. is placed, whereas in the show it's New York) is totally surrounded by the seawalls, for example. Yet nothing solid is mentioned as far as I know. Living in the Netherlands, I would at least want to know how the rest of the country looks like. Speaking of which, some administrative divisions are mentioned, but the exact borders aren't known, right?
In Sci Fi universes when advance technology is researched does the advancement rate get faster as time progresses like for example the UNSC's Mac Gun would be in like 20 years go from 48 gigatons to like 250 gigatons then 10 years later they get a Mac gun that's like 25 teratons of force? Like in the real world?
Well... we dont see that in the real world. Not really. Sometimes there are breakthroughs but other areas have huge stagnations. Take tank guns. The abrams has gone from a 105 to a 120 in like.. 30-40 years. If there isnt a need for it we most likely wont see it. 25teraton mac gun? You want to blow up suns or something? With no need for it, its unlikely we'll see it.

Hence why the Covenant used PDCs and why the UNSC had to use sustained mac barrages to kill them.

@@despinoza6205 and overpopulation might be a myth.
Overpopulation like we see in The Expanse is almost improbable because demograthic transition.
@@vincegalila7211 I think in the book they mention that the corporation Tycho tried to colonise Venus with floating city but it didn't work
We need a Martian Congressional Republic video next or one about the belt/OPA
09:53 - Duarte: Hold my beer
Ideas:
High Command:
Battle of Triskelion (HYDRA Uprising)
Battle of Earth (Infinity War)
Battle of Blackwater (ASOIAF)
Dossier:
Jonathan Irons (Advanced Warfare)
Tywin Lannister (ASOIAF)
Thanos (MCU).
Love these suggestions.
Bestiary: Pretty much any of the kaiju created by Toho
@The Ghost of Winterfell They haven't done a High Command in a long, long time. Which kind of makes me wish we had an "all of the above" option for when those contests came up. Especially since it seemed like they had their hearts truly set on Bestiary. @kertaspaper94 I agree with you there buddy. They should do _all_ of the kaiju.
Besides seeing one of these on the OPA and Mars from _The Expanse_ universe, I'd love to see more of Marvel's cosmic arm. Specifically the Shi'ar, Kree and Skrull Empires. Maybe even the Negative Zone.
Fantastic video! I love the Expanse, brilliantly discussed. Would love to see more videos about the Expanse!
The United Nations "was not created to take mankind to heaven, but to save humanity from hell."
Shure, free air, food, and owkwa is bueno for innies, but it enslaves the belters, Sasa? Let them get their own ice and you can't take the sky from me..... Oh wait, wrong series.
The expense in a politics nutshell, mars and the belt talk a lot o shit until the UN count punch these 2 afther some heavy losses or doing something fucked up.
I really love the blend of real world history and sci-fi, it's unique.
Bruh how will the UN 🇺🇳 take over earth if they can’t even prevent petty conflicts in Africa.
Well, its not just in africa that they are failing to prevent any conflicts lol
The day the UN started giving orders not suggestion to countries is the day Africa will get in line amd shut up
Anyone else think that the history of the UN in the Expanse-verse is- sometimes chillingly - plausible?
I always love when Templin covers an evil faction!
Why is it evil?
@@samuelhayden234 Stratified society; extreme poverty across the entire planet; most basics barely have any "basic" education, food, medicine and clothing; restrictions of basic freedoms; baby lottery; un-democratic government (I heavily doubt that basics are even interested on voting); almost all power is exercised by the Security Council and Secretary General (I don't believe they give a damn about the opinions of the General Assembly); Shared Interest Zones (do I have to say more?); and many other things that are better covered in the video. So, yeah... it's a pretty authoritarian government...
C. Caner,
Well put.
@Reckoning Agree.
Templin is the perfect paring to play one of the many Paradox games on my steam account!
Gives me something to listen to while the loading screen buffers at least :/
Let's here about the Caldari in the massive eve online game.. Top class lore.
Use 10 min. And look up eve online the story. A old but good video made by Ccp games that do give a look in to it. Just a tiny look but still so you get a taste of it
I've asked them, it's on their list.
Be honest, you just want to see Larissa fail to pronounce Nugoeihuvi
The Expanse was a positive surprise indeed. Love that show.
In the show, they do have an apartment that's in the "Anchorage Archipelago"
Normally I don't comment, but this is the best Skillshare plug I've heard so far out of the hundreds I've had to sit through on other channels' vids.
Massive tungsten rod would like to

Man, I was doing some lore reading for the Expanse just today. Y'all read my damn mind
@@TheIfifi
25 Teratons as in contained explosive rounds in a certain area like penetrating armor and damaging hulls.
The Forerunner's technology is like a thousand years ahead of the UNSC's.
@@thorshammer7883 Your numbers are off by a huge margin. As calculated the UNSC's ODP's only have a force of 1.3 gigatons of energy. This is goes consistent with both the books and games. Since Covenant shields could be dropped by a 50 megaton nuke. While super carriers shields could be dropped by multiple nukes. Hence why the Covenant used PDCs and why the UNSC had to use sustained mac barrages to kill them.
@@Predator42ID
I don't see how I'm wrong about it being 48 gigatons many other statistics put it around that level.
Just look at the Halowaypoint website and they calculate it at the same thing.
@@Predator42ID tbh with how fast the odps rounds go hey should be higher
Nice to see somebody cover the Third Rail of The Expanse fandom: the iron fist of the UN.
4:26 I’m pretty sure the UN delcared war, not the other way around.
This was a great video! It's ones like this that keep me on Patreon.
Ah yeah, these guys. Pity that martians and belters invented plot armor to counter all other advantages Earth *and Moon* should have, but were somehow robbed of:D
TheArklyte Just wait - after the gate Nexus opens up, earth gets the last laugh. Who needs to terraform when you've got access to potentially thousands of garden worlds? Mars, the belt, and the outer planets are probably going to become ghost towns.
@@Pyreleaf The problem with the belters is that they cant go back to settle in any planet due to their phisiology. they'll be spaceborn for the rest of their days.
@@85cadian Well they can, but it takes tremendous effort, like taking meds, basically modifying your genes and all... Don't know if you've read the books but the whole thing is a vital plot point later on.
@@Vitalis94 I've only read the first two books, didnt know about that but it'll be interestin to see.
@@85cadian I've read the 5th book recently and oh boy, those two upcoming seasons will be great! Hell, some moments would rival GoT's Red Wedding if done right :P

"Major power in the Solar System."
Well, until Laconia shows up.

Could you do Oceania from 1984? I’d really like to see your take on this world.

Yes the Expanse! Ive been hoping for one of these!
I would like to see a video about the Principality of Gallia from Valkyria Chronicles.
Is that YA trash? Sounds like YA trash.
@@fatalshore5068 Valkyria Chronicles is a video game.
@@fatalshore5068 more like Anime. But admittedly I can see similarities to YA fiction. But yes it is actually a pretty good (story and gameplay) Japanese anime strategy game.
Thank you un !! Great commercial. We have different plans!
I love how this show turned the most incompetent organization in human history into a superpower somehow.
false, the league of nations was more incompetent
I wouldn’t call it incompetent per say. I’d say it’s restrained by it’s Charter and it’s member states.
Hahahahaha.. I love the flash of Aurek Besh in the United Nations title glitch XD.
But MCRN sounds so much cooler than UNN
Huh, I was just watching the Expanse. Thought this was recommended, nope, new. Can't wait for season 4.
Any thoughts of doing the many nations of the Safehold series by David Weber?
I don't known if has come up before, but we now know The Templin Institute is located on their Earth. 10:26
From 9:33 to 9:47, I'd totally agree. The UN is decaying, rotting from the inside out.
I like how The Expanse has the most realistic form of Space Combat.
Do the Alessian Empire from the elder scrolls please
