Man I’ll tell you, I did the route from az to north Idaho last winter. Pulling a 43’ 5th wheel. First time ever driving in snow. 22 years old. I get the stress you’re mentioning
Just my 2 pennies. I once pulled a random truck who just peaked into a ditch in a bad snow once. I put a clevis on his trailer hitch, and on the first yank with a recovery rope it ripped his receiver off his truck, it was very rusted underneath and I hadn't noticed. I hooked him again and pulled him out. He then wanted my insurance information so he could file a claim against me for breaking his hitch... And he did just that.
Great group of people! I follow them on Facebook and know they do this all the time, sometimes driving long distances to help others. Great job Wes. Thanks for what you do!
Know highway 50 to well. Got stuck at Spooner Summit. Side road. It only took 2 tow trucks to get me out. Thank god I was close to the highway and the tow trucks were stationed there to help stuck vehicles. I only had to walk 100 yards or less to get help.
BTW, That was a J10 I got stuck with, 31-10.50 mud and snow tires. Pulled more vehicles that were stuck with that PU than you can shake a stick at. This included 4x4s.
THANK YOU for doing this. I found myself stuck in several inches of snow in the middle of no where with no service. The ONE car that passed by in the 4 hours I was there U-turned, pulled up next to me, and said, "Need a tow?" I couldn't have been any more grateful because at that point I was sure Triple A ditched me because they couldn't find me (walked to a nearby town and had short access to wifi). I want to do exactly what you're doing.
Yeehaww fun stuff, that blue toy matrix car is now stuck on my road , went n dug around it with the tractor today ,it's not making it any further on road it on in it's condition lol fun times in Pollock pines
Wes you guys are good at what you do that last truck I wasn't sure if you could do as heavy as that truck was. I wasn't doubting your skills I just didn't know if you would have enough power to move something that heavy. I was impressed
Was it you yesterday helping stuck vehicle off the road near the Sky Park exit on westbound? God bless you and the people who got us out of danger yesterday.
I’m curious about the legal ramifications/ insurance coverages of operating as a Good Samaritan on public roads if something goes sideways. Are there any disclaimers, whether spoken or written? I’ve helped a number of people stuck on back roads , parking lots and trails, but have always been leary of pulling over to help on major thoroughfares with the potential of becoming entangled in a pileup or the like. Have you ever had a job where shit hit the fan or someone got hurt?
Love doing this! So many people get stuck in winter. Sometimes there is more than a 3 hour wait for a tow truck IN THE CITY! Question: Where do you find good places to hook up to modern (plastic) cars?
Old Hang town for the win!!! I moved here about 10 or 12 years ago and wouldn't trade it for the world! When I had my crawler, I would drive up and down from Strawberry to Placerville towing Flat-landers cars out for tips.
This is how people in Washington and Oregon treated the snowfall this past weekend. As someone from the Midwest that was relocated to Washington you people really pissed me off this weekend😂. It was just I-5…
They’re best for icy roads, we get so much snow up here that sometimes you’re not even making contact with the ground. In off-road conditions or more than 1-2’ it’s best to have wider tires that are aired down so you float and stay on top. Some people still run studded tires but majority of the off-road guys use big mud tires.
@@4x4rescue74 oh yeah i can see it being fine for good ole 4x4 trucks to use well made muddies but i feel like alot of these dudes and dudettes youre helping out are just running basic summer tyres? Here in finland we run friction or studded tyres in the winter and no matter the snow weather; we're all good even with RWD cars.
Was that the weekend of Feb 25th and 26th? I had been watching Facebook posts where it was crazy amounts of snow from Nevada City all the way down to Pine Grove and Moke Hill.
Wow! That last one was pretty impressive. It's cool to know I have the same gear you have and a Gladiator and could possibly help out like this if ever needed.
I heard from several 4x4 recovery trainers that Rhino lies about their numbers and you shouldn't trust them. They also let me know it's a waste of money to buy official 4x4 or overlanding recovery gear because they put the "overland tax" on that stuff. They recommended going to rigging stores and you'll get higher rated equipment for a lower cost. I bought a few things from ASR (Advanced Synthetic Rigging) and I really like their soft wares. I also just realized you may take this as attacking you about Rhino, I just wanted to hear your opinions on their products, obviously you like them. It's awesome that you're doing this! I love recoveries, it's one of my favorite things about snow wheeling. We were in the Rockies to go out and cut down a Christmas tree and there was a huge blizzard, they ended up shutting down the mountain pass, we recovered two vehicles stuck which was nice.
Anyone who says that has no idea what they’re talking about. These “recovery companies” charge for their services. Rhino does it for free in partnership with 4x4 Rescue. It’s easy to see why they don’t like us. All rhino gear is lab tested and the numbers are legit. I use the equipment daily and never have had an issue.
that’s good, it can be dangerous so I’m glad no problems! I don’t exactly remember, it may have been that Rhino tested 10 items and they used the maximum number the equipment experienced a failure where others used the lowest numberbb where the equipment failed. Obviously, lying vs maximum breaking strength is very different, I can’t exactly remember.
It’s actually an average break strength, Rhino did use the term maximum but that doesn’t mean it’s he highest number seen. I believe a few ( not all) of these companies use the term minimum when it’s actually the average also. Rhino is in the process of switching over all products to a real minimum break strength, new versions are rolling out this year.

“Trucks putting on chains and blocking the roads”, last time I checked, it’s a law to use chains when required, so it’s not like truckers are intentionally trying to cause folks in their cars and SUV’s and inconvenience, I mean God forbid they not have any of the commodities on the shelf at the store because a truck driver decided to stop all together instead of chaining up to get over the pass, especially there in California
Problem is they don’t put on chains in the designated areas. They risk it then get stuck, then block the whole freeway. Both cars and trucks are guilty, it’s a common problem up there.
