PARENTS ASK ME: CAN I GET MY KID A FURSUIT?

- this is the BIGGEST question that i get from parents with kids who are interested in the furry fandom. the answer is a little disappointing because the price tag is so high for essentially a custom made carpet that fits your exact dimensions. but there are also some fun things your children can do while they wait to become adults and stop growing.
ALSO SAFETY-WISE... THEY'RE GONNA OVERHEAT! heat-stroke is real and fursuiters do suffer from that. it's just not a good idea all-around.
or, you know, go become a cosplayer! cosplays are way quicker to make and cost way less on average. i was a cosplayer for 16 years before i got a fursuit and it was plenty of fun! - Развлечения

What if I bought myself a mini partial? im 16 and I got enough money to buy a mini partial I havent really grown height wise sooooooooo
I’m a younger furry and I would love to commission someone someday for a mini partial, but it’s still so expensive 0-0… I made a fursuit head and paws for halloween and it was pretty fun! I couldn’t sew anything so I hot glued fabric to my foam base, but it turned out ok for my first time. For any parents reading my comment, just getting some half inch foam, various fabrics, and a hot glue gun to make a head is a good start :) it’s not extremely expensive and your kid can get crafty
heh, that’s exactly me! I don’t have stuff for fur suits so I tried my best with stuff I have! Even tho it’s not really close its pretty fun to do!! (Also I made it for a Halloween costume too!)
Im making partials myself its easy, trust me
I remember asking my mom for a dinomask since im not done growing up, and she refuses to give me a "fursuit from wish" T-T
@@Mapple318 oh- instead of a dinomask, I just bought a cat head which surprisingly was only 48 dollars, along with an ears and tail which added total to 80 dollars.. 😶 it looked really good though

hey! I'm a 17-year-old, and I've been in the fandom since I was 12, and I just wanted to quickly talk about my experience as a younger fur. my dad was incredibly supportive on top of taking me to conventions and encouraging my creativity he also bought me a fursuit at 14! after seeing how much I saw begging for a suit and after I did enough chores to at least cover half, he let me go on fur buy, and I picked out a pre-owned suit for 300$. this was a birthday gift and I love them to this day. (and yes I did do a big refurb on them a couple months ago lol.) I never out-grew the suit and it actually fits me better now. not saying every parent can or should do this but this was an awesome gift from my dad. and now that I'm older I'm a fursuit maker and plan to go into film and TV production and costumes!

thats a really enjoyable story, despite how stereotypical Canadian my father is, i doubt he would accept me because before i knew what they were, he said.. "they go around in summer in fullbody animal costumes, roleplaying. they take it too seriously." which honestly, is a pretty good description (WHY IN JULY?), but it was a bit passive aggressive- as a person who took roleplaying too seriously, loved dressing up as an animal and was an introvert, i immediately fell in love-

As a parent fur, dino masks are also great alternatives! I have a 12 year old daughter who's also a furry and she uses a dino mask, their really cheap and you can adjust them if they get too tight, too loose, etc. I've let her wear my suit a couple times and she's decided she wants a suit too but since she's still growing, I just handed her a dino mask from Target and she's been obsessed with it ever since.
That’s just awesome! Your daughters pretty lucky, my mom absolutely despises furries sadly :( my dads fine with it, but hopefully i can make a suit soon!

When I was 13 and in middle school there was a girl I knew that got a FULL digi suit. She wore it for Halloween, and while that was super cool I realize now that she must've grown out of that QUICK. I feel bad tbh.

Thanks for the honest recommendation for parents to stay away from buying a full suit, even if money is not the problem. You are alternatives look really fun! Not just for kids, but just about anyone on a low budget to try some things out and see what feels right.
it's a great way to see what types of colours you like work as well! without breaking the bank on fur
There are NO alternatives for a fursuit. Get over it.
This makes me think of splatoon where the inklings start more like squids and become more human as they get older but in reverse and I love it

I swear, most fursuits might just be cheaper when you make it yourself, but THAT'S also pricey, so idk what else ppl could do
@@happypercussionist1 the main reason it’s pricey is because you’re also paying for hours of labor usually .
I charge 15 (minimum wage) an hour for more complex commission artwork (like detailed backgrounds and stuff) so I kinda get why it’s so expensive! But when you’re finally at the age where you can work getting money becomes much more manageable. :D

Not forcing anything but i hope you join our community! :3
I joined the fandom at the scary age of 11, and I really wanted a fursuit. Luckily my parents didn't let me buy one, instead told me if I really wanted one that I had to make it myself.
I put all of my holiday / birthday money into making silly animal costumes, I have no regrets.
I’m a child with a partial suit and I have to remake my paws at least every two years and that is the only reason I don’t have a full fursuit I agree with these ideas completely!

@@zeekayart very true. You gotta protect you livelihood 🙂
I'm 13 (almost said 12...my birthday was literally yesterday lmao) and as much as I'd love a fursuit, there's a lot of reasons I haven't asked
1. My parents don't know I'm a furry (they're super supportive but I still worry what they'd think/if they even know what a furry is)
2. They're so expensive
3. Where would I even use it?? I'm too socially awkward to go to conventions or even just wear a suit in public
I really want these cool customizable cosplay ears that move but I haven't asked about those either for the same reasons :,) maybe one day when I'm older and have enough money I'll get a fursuit, I'd love a suit of my fursona :D
Hey! I love the paper mask super cute, another slightly higher quality idea is like what I did for my niece a few years back, you can find patterns for "3D paper craft masks" Wintercroft being the big seller, for roughly $10 you get a pattern you can print on your own and then use stronger either cardstock or cardboard (old cereal boxes are perfect) and you can actually make a really cool mask that you can paint like their fursona!
love this idea too!!
I bought my fullsuit at 15 yrs and I'd been done growing since 12 😭 and it was only $800 so I got lucky (it was a premade)
Going on 4 years and I still love my suit
that's lucky! but ya, if it was my money i wouldn't want to waste it. you never know when there'll be a growth spurt and suddenly you're out hundreds of dollars 🫠
@@zeekayart oh I definitely agree!! I'd been waiting 10 years lol 🤣 and I am still glad I made the decision but I know it's often not as simple. Most kids grow until they're out of highschool
I'm making my one fur suit head and I'm 10 and it's only 50 pounds! Would definitely recommend making your own because there expensive like for 100-500 pounds. I used a Dino mask, purple fur, blue and black fabric paper , glue and some foam
Im a younger furry and ive always wanted to have a fursuit of my oc ( mystery, the dragon in my pfp) so in the summer i started searching for a maker i could comission but it was to expensive so now i started working on a partial. I finished the tail and the head ( i made the head with a dino mask and it worked pretty well ) and now all i gotta do are the paws
I can AGREE with getting the rapotor coustume it is and always will be the best choice instead of a fursuit !
they look super fun!
I am a young fur and told my parents about the fandom,so they got me some foam+fur and everything else and I am making my own fursuit! Highly recommended as it is way cheaper than commissioning a fursuit (I’m only making a partial - head, hand paws, tail and feet paws)
While I have been around the same weight and height for 4 years (5’2 and 122lb) I will wait, especially since my diet might actually improve and I can eat more foods without gagging it out
ya, most people recommend waiting until you are at least 18 unless your family has a history of late growth spurts
So I'm 15 and I have a first suit head and if you want a fursut that BADLY you should just get a head or a premade head since you're probably not going to grow out of it In the time that it is being made
I'm a young fur and I'm going to get a partial fursuit. ( I'm the girl with the lamb fursona ). I will get a head, hooves attached to fluffly sleeves, and a tail. :)
As somebody who actually puts a maximum amount of effort into anything, i can assure you that if you don’t want a fursuit (meaning don’t want the expensive crap) then a mask is definitely the way to go. Even so, making a mask that goes on the front of your face and simply carving the muzzle and ears and such out of foam, this can be applied to the mask and can be made into a mini fursuit head! i definitely think it’s a really cute way to introduce yourself to the fandom, and it stands as baby steps to making and or purchasing a real one.
Mostly Dino masks are good for children cause they can like paint so I think that would be fun for kids
Another thing to pair with ears and tail is a shirt/pants/other outfit!
A regular white sweater could be colored to match the fursona, then to top off the outfit, make up!
I'm a young fur with paws ears and a tail :)
I also have a non-furry cosplay
I know this is an older video but another cheap, fun way to bring your characters to life are paper dragon puppets! Traditionally they're dragons, but they don't always have to be as I have seen some very cute protogen/animal puppets ^^ They're fairly easy too, there's a bunch of tutorials online
Dude that little wave at the end just made me tear up lol ^-^ dunno why im such a dork haha
hahah thank you
I'm 13 and I plan on making one, I just need to subtlety ask my parents for supplies without them knowing I'm a furry even tho they probably already know bc they've seen my pfp
well if they saw your pfp then they might know, and considering that they havent been giving you any trouble, they might support it. better to have the talk with them as opposed to try to hide it from them, them finding out and being left to their own conclusions as to what being Furry means.
Thanks a lot! This helps so much! I also saw a video where someone fully furred a raptor mask into a head, so I might try that, on top of the other ideas in here! Thanks so much!
i'm 11 and i am a furry. Idon't know why so many people hate furries. They are litterally just people in fursuits. I don't have a fursuit yet but i'm gonna make one myself when i'm 18. Your fursuit is cute btw❤️
Furry haters think they're "gigachads" for harassing innocent people, I just don't get it..
Why wait until 18 only to make it? You can do it with your parents.
I love this so much! I'm on the younger side of the spectrum and obviously since suits are quite expensive i cant afford one, however with these options we can still express ourselves,I'm currently in the process of making a partial right now anyways, but I know many people who cant make them (like my friend) because either their parents don't trust them or they don't have the money for it and so on! I just absolutely love this,Thanks!
can you get a kid a fursuit head? you could jam some foam in if its a bit big ?
When making paper fursuits like that one you should put tape on the other side to make sure mold doesn’t grow on it. Also, don’t make full 3d paper masks because mold grows really easy in those and isn’t a good idea. Happy fursuiting 😀
That's a super cute mask you made of Zee! I've been to TONS of furry conventions over the last 9 years I've been in the fandom. It's pretty rare that I see kids under 16 at cons with a custom suit. If they do have a custom suit, it's usually homemade by the kids and/or parents and not commissioned.
I'm definitely gonna try that last idea, and thank you for this video it was helpful

Honestly you might still grow 😂 your body is not done growing until 26. You most likely won’t but it is a possibility. I think I actually grew an inch somewhere in my 20s lol
Also I would highly recommend making a very cheap mock one first! Lol have fun with it too! Costume making is exciting!
Sorry one more piece of advice. Cut UNDER the fur only cutting the fabric part not cutting with the scissors going over all of it. So slide the top part of the scissors between the fur sticking out and the fabric part. Will save you hair going everywhere AND it will flow nicer

I wonder if you can specialize a mini partial for a growing child? Remove pads as they grow. Or copy the cardboard Panda idea in Turning red. Instead of a red panda, it's your fursona. Similar to the paper mask, but a little more durable. 😊
kigus might be a good option as well! my kigu still fits me and i've had it since i was about 12, and i'm 17 now :3
custom ones can be pretty pricey, but ones from SAZAC are about 69-100USD

i guess so, they've been with me every other moment of my life but they hate furries.. :
lol im a 11/12 and i have a fursuit, and my mom said that it would better to make the fursuit a size larger which also works.
I think if it's a head, tail and paws it'll be better, just probably not footpaws or a bodysuit.
i remember for my first cosplay, which was an mlp character, i bought a hoodie and sweatpants set im the colours of the character and sewed on felt details where needed. that could potentially work for a simple costume of your fursona as well, especially if you buy them a bit too big so you can grow into them and they'll thus last longer!
I’m a 13 year old fur who yes is obviously growing but I do have a dion mask but then you said the paper mask and I was so happy thank you I needed this
Also when getting commissions done it's important that you do a bit of research into the person that's doing the commission cause it's easy for them to draw or show you what it might look like versus the final product and you wan to have really good communication with the creator for updates on the design if they can't do that then its not a good idea to have them make you something cause you don't know what your getting back. ((lil off topic but seeing a lot of people talking about suff like that...prolly why it's best to craft your own if you can))
Hey I want an opinion on this!
While still a minor, I'm done growing. (Confirmed by the fact that I haven't grown at all in the past 3 years, and by doctors) AND I don't think I'm gonna leave the fandom (as I've been a furry for what 7-8 years now)
While, I'm not gonna get/make a full suit yet (due it being my first and wanting to see if I like suiting first) do you think getting/makeing a partial or mini partial would be okay?
you just have to come to terms with not being able to wear it ever again if you do grow out of it unfortunately. it's a lot safer to just wait.
I think this is a very good idea for kids who like the idea of dressing up in a lil fursona or animal. It's similar to simple plate mask only upgraded and still pretty easy. This is a very good option along with maybe gentle easy to wash face paint that I have seen kids wear at fairs and stuff. Plus the design can double like you said as a decoration I might make one just to have as a display. The one you made is actually pretty cute.
To be honest I want a fursuit SO BAD that I am making my own head.
If I’m an early developer, could I still make a partial at a younger age since my body is nearly fully grown. (Im 12 but people think I’m 16 and older ages like that)
Pro tip: if you go to Carolina Ren Faire, the place that does not ears right next to the jousting arena has a wide variety of tails. I got a black and white one, and they're great!
I need to try that paper mask option for a quick Halloween costume lol
I'm planning to make an adjustable fursuit, that with be somewhat big enough to fit my 6ft dad on the biggest setting. it will only be trousers, because of the way my fursona dresses. And there would be adjustable straps to hold it up.
i like that there are supportive parents who want to help their kids express themselves in the most expressive community that there is, but yeah i totally agree with the response in this video, a mask, ears and tail will do for the cubs until they're done growing.
I do ears, tail, horns, & antlers. I shop deals on Amazon, or anywhere I can find them. My horns I usually make by hand.
I have had a kid in my class who would customize dino masks and it was pretty cool
This is a great point! I will say just a fursuit head and tail might work too! Heads can be spacious and still fit so if they grow a bit it'll work! But i will say as a kid, your fursona will change a lot!
I've kept the same fursona for 2 years now.
I actually want to make a kemono fursuit head and paws even though I’m 11, yes,I’m young. But I plan for it to be more oversized so I can grow and still fit so if it doesn’t fit me right away ill know I can possibly grow into it. At the moment I have 2 dino masks, one is a main the other is a random one
i just finished the (3 finger) axolotl paws the tail and the head (axolotl cat hybrid) all i need to do is put reinforcement for the tail and get fabric mesh and paint for the eyes. i'm gonna wear it to the armageddon costume competition. also my little sister looks cute in it
cool! make sure you don't overheat!
@@zeekayart went for a partial so i wouldn't overheat too much (also too expensive to make)
I have seen some cheap furry heads at wal-mart. They're about 20$. They come in fox and in wolf. Now they aren't amazing and you might have to do some editing, but if you have some crafting skills it could be a nice base. Even if you don't you can do some small tweaks to it and make it look amazing. Like with mine I combed the fur to make it look nice cause it was kinda all over the place. I also took some fake stick on mustaches and cut one in half to make eye brows. Then wear some pants, a long speed?
i would highly reccomend checking out box heads too! they are technically their own fandom thing but they can make really fun “fursuits”
Please please PLEASE dont put cardboard around your face! It is VERY dangerous, as toxic molds can grow, risking hospitalization.
@@amp1965 toxic mold can also grow in the foam used to make fursuit heads. If your being careful and taking care of your stuff it wont though.
@@riskoffailure8857 exactly! This is why its also a good idea to not only clean your suit to get rid of smells, but for your own safety too!
Indeed..I've been in the fandom since I was 13 and now I'm 20...I grew alittle and really stopped growing around 15 ..16ish..I'm only 5"3 so I'm short but done growing
Another alternative are dinomasks they are cheap and you can get some acrylic paints and customize it, I think of asking my mom for one.
Some more things you can do
Since Dino masks are adjustable, you can add foam and then it into a base.
If you really want a fursuit, make one of your fursona out of cardboard! Recommended doing protogens as a “test” to make sure the cardboard you’re using is useable
Make ones like paper dragons but bigger so you can wear it as a mask and having a moving jaw.

@@GachaToGo whats wrong with it
You can't grow out of a partial because the skull doesn't grow much, and there's the reason why in art, human height is measured in heads. You only can grow out of a bodysuit.
i have an idea, you can like add those adjusztable things like on the dino massk to a head made of foam if you wanna be more creative. if your a kid maybe mkae the head a little oversized so when you grow older you grow into it. but you cant make a body tho sadly just the head
Idk if this works but i might think that paper mache would work, might just need alot of news paper, wire for the shape of the head, and idk maybe foam for comfortability. Im not sure but it could work
The construction paper mask thing is amazing
I was wondering, since I’m 10, (started being a furry when I was 7) do you have any tips? I’m incredibly gifted with creating stuff so I’m already making myself a partial. (Beginning furring head) I’m thinking on getting a full when I’m 16 and getting a partial from Eastern Dragon Studios when I’m 13-14 because they’re based in Melbourne! (I live there) and I’m saving for a moving tail from The Tail Company
Yeah I’m a young fur and I am almost done with my Dino mask and I furred it and added huge ears and I’ll probably make a tail with it but I’m probably not going to make the paws yet!!
I know that my 8 year old sister has a partial fursuit and her grandma actually made that fursuit and did not my experience at all and the fursuit came out pretty good
As a child I totally agree with this i have Dinomasks and a partial fursuit (head paws and tail)
I'm wondering if there's such a thing if it can be embedded and adjustable fursuit that and grow like maybe what's velcro that can stretch or something that can stretch I don't know if there's a material like that but it would be interesting
As a younger furry, if you really want a fursuit really badly- get a partial!
Just get the head, paws, feet, and tail!
Get a normal sized adult head
1. because you’ll grow into it 2. your hair might be enough space if your hair is long or poofy 3. child (12 or up) heads are usually big enough anyways 4. even if its a bit loose, it still works well and wont fall off as long as you tighten with belts and zipties!
Get paws that fit your hands!
Your hands do grow- yes, but they are very easy to buy more since they aren’t extremely expensive like fursuit heads, and easy to commission for minors anyways! Hands don’t grow as much as the rest of your body, so you have a while!
Same for feet!
Unless you grow a foot each year or something (😂) , buying tails is no issue. Even if you do grow and the tail isnt as big as you’d like, you can commission more since they are easy to commission- and if you cant, small tails are adorable too and nobody will notice the difference!
I’m gonna make my own partial fur suit and I may still have growing to do and I may be a child but I will will do my best to make one
They also sell sheet foam that you can use like you used the paper mask... a bit more comfortable!
I am young and still growing I have a dino mask and its one of the best options I have had it for almost a year now and it still fits me and I am getting another one for my birthday so I definitely recommend
Thank you zee!

I personally am a young furry and I made my own paws. They were expensive to make so I made a string ring thing so I can still use them when my hands are bigger :)

I'm a young fur who has been in the fandom since I was around 5-6. I attempted to make a fursuit a few months ago but it failed and it looks painful. But on Friday my mom is taking me to target to go dinomask hunting and we are gonna order some foam and fur!!! I'm very excited dhdhfhhd
Thanks so much! I’m actually making a dino mask and now I know what age to get a suit :)

I’m a young fur (15) and I wanted to commision someone for a partial but found out that I can’t cause it’s too expensive
And I’ve decided in the winter break of 2023 once the first half year of school ends, I’ll make a Fursuit.
