    I love how humble Chris Pine is playing Robert the Bruce. After all he is just a man, appointed as king of Scotland by his faithful followers.
    There has been real controversy of how good this movie is, but as a Scotsman he sounds very naturally Scottish and that is not an easy thing to do for an American. I loved this film, very well made and will be remembered forever.

    • @Sabhail_ar_Alba
      @Sabhail_ar_Alba 6 лет назад +7

      You call yourself a Scotsman and then you refer to Bruce as "king of Scotland" which he wasn't of course, but rather the King of Scots and the Community of the Realm. Basic history.

      @Achilles 1776 Virtually none, for the majority of Roberts Reign, other monarchs never recognised him as king after being excommunicated by the pope, which was eventually lifted and he was recognised as king of scotland, angus mac is literally just trying to show off how uber scottish he is.....
      EDIT:- You could also argue that there was no scotland to be king of per say as before roberts first war of independence, most of the clans would fight each other in petty squabbles, but its fair to say that it was Robert that united scotland therefore made him the first king of the entirety of scotland.

      My dad, the son of Scottish immigrants, could mimic a Scots accent so well you'd think he'd just stepped off the boat from Edinburgh. I'm named for Bruce, btw, "Arbeedubya" being a spelling out of my initials, RBW. I won't say what the "W" stands for, but the "RB" is Robert Bruce. One other thing: I understand Bruce could be pretty damned bloodthirsty and ruthless himself. Didn't he have a large number of people, including women and children, massacred at Buchan when they didn't recognize him as King?

    Black Douglas is one of the most under recognised and under celebrated patriots of Scotland. A true tactician and warrior on the battlefield. He did massacre that church and claim back his home stolen from him, His capture of Roxburgh castle is legendary. The depiction of Edward II is ...very inaccurate. He was a shadow of what his father was as a king, however he was actually a very attentive and kind person, it his known that he often speaked with many of his vassals and servants, which was a very unusual practice by the realty at the time. He also was not present in the Battle of Loudoun Hill, at that time he was in the South of England. Anyways I understand that changes had to be made for dramatic purposes. Oddly enough, when I heard book Stannis was no firm-follower of the Lord of Light like the TV show Stannis, I could actually picture him making this very same speech to his men right before a battle, or at least a very similar one.
      After all, if book fans told me the truth, the guy did say once: "Half my followers are non-believers. Forget burning! Pray harder!"

    • @Jon.A.Scholt
      @Jon.A.Scholt 4 года назад +1

      Book stannis is a tricky character. I think he is more of a follower than not, if that makes sense. He's not hardcore by any stretch but is enough of a follower to allow the Melisandre to do some pretty awful things in its name , though you could say he does it for power. Luckily he has Davos there some of the times to curb his excesses, namely the burning of Roberts bastard Edric Storm. And stannis also knows lightbringer, his glowing sword to not be the genuine article. Pretty much stannis is an absolutely awesome, grey character, though certainly righteous in his claim.

    Should make a film about James Douglas he became one of the Bruce's most loyal and trusted friends. Apparently he took Robert's heart in a cask to crusade in the holy land and wore it round his neck on a chain and when he met the saracens in battle he supposedly flung the heart towards the saracens and shouted 'lead on brave heart'

    In Braveheart, Mel was unfair to Robert Bruce... This movie was historically accurate. Bruce fought against the English at every turn, he only made peace with King Edward when that was the only option. As soon as he had a couple hundred men to resist him, he did. He fought so many tiny skirmishes and gorilla style fights, the man's life was nothing but violence. If anybody deserves to be the king, he did. That kids story about the spider is so true with Robert Bruce. He kept on going forward slowly gathering a following and he had men follow him because he was a real leader. Bruce is definitely up there with the most badass men in history, imo.
