Yeah, most cities don't adequately fund their public works and then lack the manpower to do proper routine maintenance on things like this. Most folks just don't think it's a priority and take it for granted until there's suddenly a major flood.

I kept looking in the shadows of the water for the Giant Gator coming to eat you, when you turned your back to the water I said he's a goner. My wife laughed and called me an idiot for not paying attention about the ice and the color of the tree leaves, so obviously up North somewhere safe. If you're ever in the South, if you see a body of water and you can't see to the bottom, There's a Gator in there! That will keep you alive for more fun videos if you come down to Gatorland.

Best line of the who video. "I'm having fun!" That is all I needed to hear to give you thumbs up. It isn't worth doing if you can't enjoy it or take pride in your tasks.
Yeah but that generator would have to be maintained. So then you have to put in man hours and pay the wages, then what it all boils down to is you have to make that generator scaled to the point where the effort and money put into it are worth it monetarily. That's why you only really see hydroelectric generators in industrial scale.
@@RabblerouserGT you're totally right, but there is another solution: minimize or remove the maintenance to the point where the energy is worth more than the maintenance. I know it's way easier said than done.
@@starballs2009 I hope we can get to that point soon! I know I've heard about tiny generators that use power from sewage flow but... that would be 🤢 to maintain.
There is something like this a few hundred yards from my house that invariably clogs up with leaves etc if there is heavy rain in the fall. It causes a local wood to flood to the point where paths are under water. People think I am a bit mad so it is great to find that there are others like me out there. Maybe next year I will document it.

This man is doing a great job. He takes pleasure in removing blockages and I share that.
He should have a web page to permently record the reports he makes. When the Highway fails, they can go back and say, "was reported in 2019."
I think for that one he actually spoke on TV and got them to repair it
@@patience__8051 just got a beaver dam removed too! Apparently, some heroes wear boots and carry a rake.
They don't care. Oroville spillway has reported with defects, in file, then waited until it collapsed. How much the repair cost? Over a billion now.

I would gladly do it for free, imagine all that water draining xD, but on the side note, they should pay the guy. helps a lot of houses

it's amazing. Cities and counties spend millions, sometimes billions hiring engineers and constructing these drains. If no one maintains them, it's doing absolutely nothing. Hats off!
sadly they are ignored on purpose to devalue properties so gov't. can do a land-grab!
He's simply getting there before a ranger does, he said it himself that Autumn has only just arrived.
Yeah, most cities don't adequately fund their public works and then lack the manpower to do proper routine maintenance on things like this. Most folks just don't think it's a priority and take it for granted until there's suddenly a major flood.
That’s usually how most things work: not bother with basic maintenance until a disaster happens.
This guy is a star! Cannot sleep it's 3 in the morning and I cannot believe watching a bloke unclogging drains could be so interesting. Give this man a medal!

Being from South Florida, I can't even convey to you how much anxiety I had watching this!
Amen! Gators gators everywhere.
I think that's one of the only thing I don't miss about Florida (and all the other things that want to kill you.) After I moved up north.

Imagine how much energy can be generated by simply putting a hydroelectric generator underneath drains like this.
Oh hell yeah
They should just release all the suppressed technologies that make electricity and power overly abundant..
There is something like this a few hundred yards from my house that invariably clogs up with leaves etc if there is heavy rain in the fall. It causes a local wood to flood to the point where paths are under water. I have unclogged it a couple of times a year for the past few years and it is incredibly satisfying to get it flowing again and see all the water drain out of the woods. People think I am a bit mad so it is great to find that there are others like me out there. Maybe next year I will document it.
Do it! This guy has 331k subscribers so there's clearly an interest for this sort of stuff 👍

I've gone from watching carpets getting cleaned, to seals being rescued from nets, to parasites being removed from shrimps, to drains being unclogged by a lone ranger. I regret nothing.
Edit: for carpets I watch Advanced Cleaning Systems, seals is Ocean Conservation Namibia, and shrimp parasites is Jacob Colvin. I've also started watching bee removals from JPthebeeman, ants living fantastic lives with AntsCanada, and Altai throat singing from VEK (the video, Word of Baatyr. Throat singing, got me hooked). I swear, the internet links me to the strangest, and oddly satisfying, things to watch. I'm here for it though.
Edit again: IDK why, but YT only just started sending me replies for this. For anyone who's interested, the comment chain has some interesting suggestions down there! Cleaning cow hoofs, repairing paintings, barnacles removed from sea turtles, car detailing, ice skating, iceburg seperation, beaver dam removals, guinea pig cleaning; people! I never knew YT could be so interesting! Thank you all for the suggestions, I'm heading to watch some new things soon!
