My only disagreement with Mark is that the film is best watched in isolation from the series. I thought it cast a profound light on the events of the series and vice-versa. Despite loving this film I have only watched it a couple of times due to how emotionally traumatic I find the experience. How about mentioning the incredible double performance of Ray Wise? But I agree with the letter that complained about the first half-hour.
Feel like you forgot The Straight story? I have to admit, I haven't seen Wild at heart or Blue velvet in full (probably about 20-30 mins of each). But from what I saw, I would say that The Straight Story strikes me as far more accessible. But in many ways, it can't be considered a "Lynch" movie, I suppose
Movies are only movies if you don't want to analyse them. And there's nothing wrong with that, but sometimes its fun and rewarding to look into a film that is particularly deep. You shouldn't really criticize someone who is just doing their job but hey, what do I know. Ignorance is bliss, my friend.
Because having watched said 20-30~ minutes of them, I know that "Wild at Heart, Blue Velvet and the Elephant Man are the easiest movies of Lynch to get into" is not exactly true, when compared to The Straight Story. Just pointing out a movie, previous poster seemed to have forgotten. Maybe you misread me or didn't comprehend, or didn't read who I was replying to. I wasn't knocking David Lynch movies, just saying they aren't exactly easy to get into. Maybe that is just my opinion.
I simply DO NOT get how somebody can’t be blown away by this film, it’s simply phenomenal to me.
