It's a film that was botched in the edit room unfortunately. There's a fan cut that re-incorporates the Missing Pieces, and it's a much more complete film.
Genuinely one of the most emotionally powerful scenes in cinema, nobody should understand this feeling but an unfortunately high amount of people do (me included).
This scene is so beautiful... I choke up every time. It just perfectly captures the feeling of eternal solitude that we walk around with every day, thats deep inside of us, thats brought to the surface when we are at our most helpless and vulnerable. Such an underrated film, David Lynch´s masterpiece (alongside the series)
Sheryl Lee is just a gem of an actress. This movie must have been hell for her, and she just kills it. She's basically getting tortured in every scene. Just watching her face makes me start to tear up. Good job Mrs. Lee! Can't wait to see more of you in this generous new season of Twin Peaks.
It probably wasn’t that bad to make, it’s all acting at the end of the day but it probably wasn’t the easiest to cope with, playing Laura, who has is carrying around lot of heavy trauma, is definitely not the easiest job. But, Sheryl Lee absolutely killed it!
I can't believe Sheryl Lee didn't have more of a film career after Twin Peaks. I only remember a couple of other things I might have seen her in, like John Carpenter's "Vampires" movie. She was just so damn good as Laura Palmer, and Fire Walk with Me in particular really got to showcase that.
It's such a big triple emotional blow for Laura. Unsettled by the Log Lady's words and seeing her reflection, torn up by this awesomely sad song, and then just crumbles when she realises Donna has tagged along. No wonder the poor girl cries. Then she lights a cigarette, puts her shields up, plays the tough girl again. But inside you know she's still desolate.
I feel as if this scene shows that Laura is accepting the fact that she has to die. It's extremely heart wrenching and its kills me every time to see her pain and suffering. Not one character has ever touched me as much as Laura has. A pure soul yet damaged and flawed soul. She's like a little girl trapped in a woman's body. RIP Laura
+Miss Sadie I feel the same. I'm a grown man at 35 now and watch mainly blockbusters and such but no character in TV or film ever affected me as much as Laura Palmer. I always felt it strange that a fictional character has affected me so much.
In a sense yes. But one can see her not so much as a victim but as person who decides her fate. She's in for a temptation, to dance with the devil or not...in some sense she choses to fall for temptation.
Miss Sadie isn't it strange how this girl who we met dead and wrapped in plastic yet who has been brought to life at the same time and how so many of us love Laura like she was our friend to? Laura is something truly special
DahliasDarkside everyone loves her! Shes just a beautiful soul. Shes like a child trapped in a womans body. No matter how bad she acts she strives to be good, and thats what makes her so innocent.
Miss Sadie it's like she feels so tormented and depressed, I wonder if the significance is that she's nodding to the bartender (forgot his name) that she's ready to just submit to anything, she just ready to die.
I was watching this when I was young, crying. Now my parents are dead and so are the haunting bad memories of alcoholism, abuse and fear. I remember feeling Laura's pain, being depressed like she was. Now listening this song over 25 years later, I realise how short is the human life and how temporary is the suffering.
first saw this 20yrs ago.. bawled like a baby watching Laura go thru her emotional torment.. in walks Donna... watching her torment from afar....such a powerful scene
two highschool girls...... one who had been living in secret torment for years, the other completely unaware of the human condition living in years of blissful safety. IDK how David Lynch got this pushed thru, but, it blew me away. When they use to do promos' Who Killed Laura Palmer?...... i use to say.. HER FATHER... my friends were like, WHAT THE FUCK!! . .......... EWWWWWWWW.. NO FUCKING WAY!......and other such comments. I just sat there, ...... waiting. Til the day, it was revealed. Haight Ashbury storefronts were all about Twin Peaks.. The Marina.. hell, our entire city... i remember the shock rippleing thru the city when the storyline completed...... the most moving series i ever saw was Twin Peaks.
...and then this “brutal" ending of this scene... People are always confused, when I insist that the film has a "happy ending"... Because in the end she's not alone floating dead and on fire in the dark - but she also is accompanied by her angel ❤️
Still watching and loving twin peaks . I watched fire walk with me first not knowing there was seasons of the twin peaks world . Rest In Peace Julee cruise Truly the voice of an angel
This is the moment when Laura -- and everyone else -- realizes she has to die. It's the same exact moment when we realize that WE will join Laura -- all too soon. Brutally honest. Brilliantly written and executed. Existential Angst -- it makes us appreciate the moments we have right now.
I love that the sax player just stands there and never plays. Only Lynch could direct like that. "Put a sax player up there on stage and have him just stand there!"
I just watched it a few days ago. I was prepared for the movie to suck, because of what my friends and people have said, but I disagree. The film hits a lot of emotional marks that the series seemed to only be scraping at, and while a lot of humor is missing, I just can't see how it would have worked here. It looked like David Lynch was just going full force here. This is my favorite part of the movie. It's just so touching, right from the Log Lady to Laura's freak out about Donna.
David Lynch knows how to lay bare that part of our souls, like a knife to the center of whatever has hurt us, what makes us human and what makes us truly FEEL.
Great art divides - this film certainly did. Surreal & brilliant. Only a director with outstanding talent could make something as haunting and moving as this
If you all like Laura you need to read the secret diary book. Jennifer Lynch portrays her character beautifully, in a way that I don't think David or Mark, as much as they contributed through their creation of the show and the character, ever could have.
This scene just shows you how brilliant Lynch is. No dialogue and for almost 3 minutes and yet a deeply emotional story is still able to be told. I wish Moira was the original Donna, because she worked so much better as that character. She had such a warmth towards Laura, a true best friend that is trying to help but doesn’t know how. I really feel that the scene when she speaks to Laura’s grave would’ve been even more powerful, because FWWM Donna is so tender and caring. Sheryl Lee is so wonderful, she just encapsulated Laura and her tortured soul perfectly. No one else could’ve played her. Laura is the only fictional character that I’ve ever felt like I genuinely mourn - and this movie never fails to make me completely break down into a puddle of tears. Lynch is so good at depicting dark reality in a really believable way, even when surreal things are happening. It’s like he’s tapped into the human psyche and is displaying it with no filter. Just letting it run. Like a turkey in the corn.
Esta escena y, en general toda la película, es de una tristeza infinita. La primera vez que la vi no la valoré, pero ahora la considero de lo mejor de Lynch.
One of the most outstanding scenes in this movie. This is dedicated to someone I once loved, but no longer with us. Forever in my heart, there you will be ❤
We were flawed but we were beautiful. The good. The bad. All the times... they were beautiful. "When all the world seemed so right how can love die? Was it me? Was it you? ...Questions in a world of blue...." Perhaps it was the both of us. The universe or this world must've thought a different plan but I'd be lying if I said that I wouldn't give us a chance because I'd do everything for our hearts to be one again. See you again, L. Perhaps not in this time and universe, but in another lifetime.
Why did you go? Why did you turn away from me? When all the world seemed to sing Why, why did you go? Was it me? Was it you? Questions in a world of blue How can a heart that's filled with love Start to cry? When all the world seemed so right How, can love die? Was it me? Was it you? Questions in a world of blue When did the day with all it's light turn into night? When all the world seemed to sing Why, why did you go? Was it me? Was it you? Questions in a world of blue
+queenofhearts I hope everything will be as you like, the music and everything else :) Through all these years i couldn't forget this show, its music and actors, i was hypnotized since the first day i saw it... What a coincidence that Julee Cruise performed on that specific night! I'm so glad David Lynch didn't shut down the bar so he could film, but instead kept it open and grabbed these emotional moments.
💔🖤 Julee Cruise, forever inside our hearts. ❤️🌹 Goodnight to the great singer whose ethereal voice is forever woven into the haunting sonic texture and mood of David Lynch's most haunting and evocative films. Here's her iconic performance of "Questions in a World of Blue" at the Roadhouse in TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME (1992).
David Lynch is a Genius :Eraserhead / Elephant Man / Twin Peaks ( serie and movie ) / Lost Highway / Mulholland Drive / Inland Empire. All these movies prove it + all his other works ( music, photographies, paintings ) :)

Sheryl Lee crying breaks my heart every time.
Perhaps the most underrated film of all time. Laura Palmer burns through her short, brutal life like a falling star.

Then she lights a cigarette, puts her shields up, plays the tough girl again. But inside you know she's still desolate.
Beautifully written
This film is the HEART of Twin Peaks, it's about Laura Palmer herself.
This scene fills me with emotions I can't describe
I feel as if this scene shows that Laura is accepting the fact that she has to die. It's extremely heart wrenching and its kills me every time to see her pain and suffering. Not one character has ever touched me as much as Laura has. A pure soul yet damaged and flawed soul. She's like a little girl trapped in a woman's body. RIP Laura

Such a sad part of the movie, I really don't think any movie captures despair quite like FWWM did. Props to Sheryl Lee for her amazing performance.
If I get to live to 120 I'll never love anyone the way I love Laura Palmer. Julee Cruise is the sound of Laura's soul. So beautiful.
wow..... utterly beautiful statement
Thank you I can't take full credit however, I borrowed it from elsewhere. Felt it warranted repeating
I feel the same. I will never forget Laura Palmer. She is like a tattoo in my soul.
I wish I could go into that bar, take my Laura out of there, to a safe place.
RIP Julee.
the use of color in this scene is just masterful, this and the ending are some of the best moments in cinema, what a masterpiece of a film
RIP Julee. Your voice will live on forever.
This movie really shows how much Laura and Donna loved each other 😢
Poor Laura...an angel falling deeply into her pain.
RIP Julee Cruise. Thanks for the ride.
RIP Julee, you were one of a kind

Here's a question. Will we see Leo again? Stuck in that wheelchair.

RIP Julee. Thanks for sharing your talent. Blessings on your new journey.
one of the best scenes captured ever ever ever
RIP What a beautiful song
The look when she realizes Donna is there to witness her meet older guys to screw them for drugs/money is devastating.
RIP Julee :(
I really like this movie. It took me a half a dozen times to understand it. Very trippy.
Rest in peace Julie. Voice of an angel
was it me, was it you......This whole series was amazing.
I've been that lost a couple times in my life, beautiful but devastating scene
Julee Cruise... RIP My love
💔 Julee, always in my broken heart today. You will always be in my heart.
I just saw it as a "I'll be here waiting for you when you're ready to talk."
One of the best voices I ever heard.

I love that the sax player just stands there and never plays. Only Lynch could direct like that. "Put a sax player up there on stage and have him just stand there!"
“Who gives a *fuckin* *shit* if he plays or not?!”
in this song there is actually sax playing (listen to the whole song for instance here on RUclips)
Maybe an homage to the Cars’ “Drive” video when all the members are standing frozen on stage as the camera slowly pans

So beautifully sung - and what a striking and moving scene.
Rest in peace, Julee
Can't believe it really is me at the bar at the 1 min 55 second mark. Terrific actors one and all there.
Are you Joey Paulson or the guy he’s talking too?
Rest in power Julee and thanks for your heart and art. Most mesmerizing and powerful piece of film meets music right here
If you all like Laura you need to read the secret diary book. Jennifer Lynch portrays her character beautifully, in a way that I don't think David or Mark, as much as they contributed through their creation of the show and the character, ever could have.
RIP JULEE , YOU WERE PERFECT ! ❤️

Damn...watching this, and then the end of Twin Peaks: The Return. So fucking heartbreaking.
You just want to reach out and hold her and tell her it will be ok and you will protect her.
This scene just shows you how brilliant Lynch is. No dialogue and for almost 3 minutes and yet a deeply emotional story is still able to be told.

Why did you go?
Why did you turn
away from me?
When all the world
seemed to sing
Why, why did you go?
Was it me?
Was it you?
Questions in a world of blue
How can a heart
that's filled with love
Start to cry?
When all the world
seemed so right
How, can love die?
Was it me?
Was it you?
Questions in a world of blue
When did the day
with all it's light
turn into night?
When all the world
seemed to sing
Why, why did you go?
Was it me?
Was it you?
Questions in a world of blue
such a powerful scene, so moveing,
RIP Julee Cruise
RIP Julee Cruise 🤍
Rest in peace julee.
In 2017 we are going to see TWIN PEAKS again. I can't wait!
+Nora Nini I insist the 2017 project, simply put, must incorporate the key ingredient of magical music to shred my emotions
+queenofhearts I hope everything will be as you like, the music and everything else :)

hi
It was the best thing ever
What a coincidence that Julee Cruise performed on that specific night! I'm so glad David Lynch didn't shut down the bar so he could film, but instead kept it open and grabbed these emotional moments.
This best way to describe this song and this scene both is heartbreaking.
heavenly
RIP Julie, I’m sure Dale will wait with you until your angel arrives in the lodge.
So so, the track is so memorizing.thanx uploader
the absence of hope and how that weighs on the soul
Don't cry, Laura 😢❤️👍
My favorite Etheral Wave song
It's the most sadly song I've ever heard. Miraculous one.
Id love laura forever shes beautiful xxxx
The music is what makes Twin Peaks so great

+djouletube No love for Blue Velvet? I daresay without that movie, Twin Peaks never would have been made
Yes, I forgot Blue Velvet in my list. Definitly another masterpiece ;)
And Sailor and Lula ;)
I personally hated Inland Empire, but agree with the rest!
Hotel room
AWESOME SONG!
I love you song
The film has goofy scenes, and distractingly confusing scenes, and crazy art house scenes, but at the center of it shows us how horrifying incest feels to the victim in the situation. I mean, the ending, is, just, like, ahhhh... >_>
brilliant piece of work. deserves way more acclaim!
love to you all! the fighters and survivors
Ham Food I think Sheryl Lee should have gotten an Oscar.
I don’t think that’s the main takeaway from the movie. Laura had a lot of troubles. From being raped, an escort, drug addict, hopeless. The movie is about her spiraling down because she didn’t know what else to do
Ham Food fuckin' normies.
Still so affecting and emotional after nearly 30 years, perfectly pitched by Sheryl Lee, and by Lynch.
Only quibble with this clip: should have started with the Log Lady’s epic words to Laura outside.
When this kind of fire starts it’s very hard to put out....
The tender vows of innocence burn the first,
and the wind rises,
and then all goodness is in jeopardy.
the saddest song i have ever heard in my life! the lyrics destroyed me
