I skimmed the description and thus read "but Jason Bourne's not in it" as Jason Isaacs not being in it. I might have overdosed on Kermode and Mayo, and no, it's not OK to have a franchise movie in which Jason Isaacs does not appear. Also, hello to Jason Isaacs!
I am very pleased that I have seen the whole of Blakes 7 before reading this comment. Careful not to give out spoilers, especially for a true classic..
Halloween 3 without Michael Myers was weird at first. And I remember a movie called Executive Decision starring Kurt Russell and I believe Steven Seagal where 1 of them dies very early on after being put all over the commercials. Anyways I love the tags to this video btw.
I really do think that The Bourne Legacy is absolutely the best way to proceed with the franchise. I thought the trilogy was great and am very happy that they didn't decide to recast and continue the adventures of a character who had such a great journey and a fitting ending. But I'm totally interested in seeing the universe explored. And yes, I would watch Zoe Ball in The Kermode Legacy.
Thank you for commenting on this. I find it frustrating that people are finding this movie enjoyable when it was clearly not, and the trailer pretty much showed all the action that was in the movie. I like Renner as an actor. But this wasn't his thing. He's clearly now going to end up doing Hollywood fluff films.
Agreed, I also thought 28 Weeks Later was much better. 28 Days started well but, like most horror films, started to go downhill towards the end. With 28 Weeks it seemed to only get better as it went on.
Exactly, I think we were spoilt by Casino Royale setting the bar so high. But personally, I haven't forgotten about: 1. Brosnan being tortured in North Korea for months and looking none the worse for it. 2. Madonna as a fencing instructor. 3. The invisible car. 4. The worst cgi ever (surfing on the ice) 5. Halle Berry :(
Smokey and the Bandit 3- Smokey IS the Bandit! That's what first came to mind when I saw the Bourne Legacy trailer. That line "Bourne was the tip of iceberg" just reeks of desperate producers clutching at dollars. As if to say, 'Wait, come back! There's more! Honest! Who needs Damon! PLEASE COME BACK!!' And of course, Trail of the Pink Panther and Game of Death are examples of how to make monstrosities of cinema with patched together footage of your deceased star. Thankfully, Matt's alive.
I Have two suggestions. For television, I think the iggest offender is Taggert. Despite the main character dying both on and off screen, they kept the name of the show. As for movies Jurassic park has three films to its name, only the first one taking place at Jurrassic park itself. the other two were set on Site B.
this i agree with. lol bruce lee films were still being made years after he died, Chinese people probably thought we couldnt tell the difference between asians.

LOL!, I was just about to post American Psycho 2, then saw ya beat me to it... DOH!!!. Definitely a prize winner for most ridiculous and audacious franchise spinner. Don't recall Mila Kunis' character being possessed by Bateman, wasn't she the half sister or something like that?.
Kermode won't get that because he doesn't play games but Metal Gear Solid 2 is a freaking great example. Personally I loved Raiden. That game's plot was genius.
Hannibal Lecter movie series. The best movies where the ones where Hannibal was one of the main draws but he was not the main focus of the movie. When he got more screen time and the plot focused more on him in Hannibal and Hannibal Rising, the movies flat out sucked.
Yeah, I love Kermode but I think he was too harsh on this. I really enjoyed the film. I thought Renner and Weisz were good. Some great set-pieces. Same world and atmosphere. I didn't think it was that bad.
Haha, yeah, Steven Seagal doesn't even make it on the hijacked plane, the poor bastard dies in the tube on his way in. But like you said, his name was still all over the movie poster, and if I recall correctly half of it is covered by his face, and the other by Russels.
What with the disabled comments on everything now, as far as youtube goes you had a pretty spectacular quality of commentators. Completely killed any community interaction.
I don't think Bond actually counts here as the character is still the same. There was the sequel to Van WIlder: Party Liason that kept the Van WIlder title, but focused on one of the side characters coming over to England to go to a fake Oxbridge style university and was not even on the same continent when it comes to accurate portrayals of real universities.
Superman Returns. I'm pretty sure that they replaced Superman with DroopyEmo-man. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he didn't throw one punch the entire movie...
28 Weeks Later. Probably not as audacious as other suggestions but this movie angered me incredibly because it had no where near as much heart or intelligence as the previous film, it felt like a massive cash cow.
Jaws 2 and Jaws 3. Jaws 2 different shark. Jaws 3 no Schnieder. Plus any sequel where the original hero isn't in the film. Any prequel, by definition. Amazing Spider Man.. In fact let's just make one film on each topic shall we?
Van Wilder 2... without Van Wilder . i know this is not cinema with a capital C but its a good example of "trying to sell a sequel without the main element from the first movie".
Its an awful idea to have a Bourne film without any Bourne. The title is taken from the 4th book in which Bourne finds out his son is alive and is a killer. THe 4th books is not some story about a genetically enhanced super solider which Jeremy Renner is playing. He's basically going to be Hawkeye meets Captain America meet Bourne. You see from the trailer they are pulling a similar stunt to The Bourne Ultimatum in which the film will splice between the others. It worked once don't try it again.
No problem! I haven't even seen the film and I am finding it very easy to agree with you. It should NOT be enjoyable. I think one of the ways to stop this kind of trash would be to simply stop going. Audiences should know better I think and just not go see this, as tempting as it might be. I like Renner too, but he's quickly becoming type-casted I think. Missions Impossible - gov agent, Avengers - gov agent, Bourne - gov agent. Thor - gov agent. Bourne-less 4 just looks cheap.
well a good example of how it works are the batman films.. Batman Begins is a billion times better than Batman Forever and Batman & Robin put together and Batman Begins had a completely different cast, the only thing that was good about Schunacher's Batman's was the performance of Michael Gough and he can know rest a little easier in his grave knowing that the franchise that he had acted in for almost ten years has been redeemed by the genius Nolan
but when tong po returns in part 4 its a different actor and just the fact thay went on without van dam and killed him off of screen no less and at the end of kick boxer 4 the revenge is still unresolved then thay made part 5 that had nothing to do with 4 and didn't even reference the cliff hanger at the end of KB 4 or the obscure lone wolf and cub tv movie that brought back the actor Tomisaburô Wakayama but not as Ogami Itto but as retsuo the villain i dont recal the name of this tv movie
there was one that never came to be death wish 6 the next generation texes chainsaw the next generation or what about curse of the fly that didn't even have a fly in it and son of dr Jekyll which didnt even feature anyone turn into mr hide or the last hell raiser movie that didnt have Doug Bradly in it the return of the saint or some of the kick boxer sequels where the whole point was to get revenge on tong po for killing van dam but in part 3 he is just talked about briefly
bruceloitation films like game of death, clones of Bruce lee, the man the with, and so on back to the futer 2 and a lesser extent 3 for having a lookalike of crisping Glover but this was actully done rather well as i didn't know it wasn't him for years plane 9 from outta space or even a real garbage movie i saw called demon cop featuring footage of a dead actor called Cameron Mitchell from incomplete movies thay did this again with another movie called jackO
jason bourne was the tip of the iceberg with that whole blackbrior thing in bourne ultimatum...tip of the iceberg omg such a cheap line it reeks with cheapness...its off-putting and i will not go to the cinema to go see that movie
:) I am just sick of people jumping on the bandwagon like this movie was the greatest thing since slice bread.
I skimmed the description and thus read "but Jason Bourne's not in it" as Jason Isaacs not being in it. I might have overdosed on Kermode and Mayo, and no, it's not OK to have a franchise movie in which Jason Isaacs does not appear.

You're right. He appears in a haze with poor ADR near the end. Wouldn't be surprised though if the shot's ripped from one of the previous films.
Agreed, I also thought 28 Weeks Later was much better. 28 Days started well but, like most horror films, started to go downhill towards the end. With 28 Weeks it seemed to only get better as it went on.
I never saw Dumb and Dumberer but it was exactly what came up in my head 0.5 seconds before Kermode mentioned it.:-)
Mark, I don't remember if you mentioned this, but is Bourne in this movie?
Exactly, I think we were spoilt by Casino Royale setting the bar so high. But personally, I haven't forgotten about:
1. Brosnan being tortured in North Korea for months and looking none the worse for it.
2. Madonna as a fencing instructor.

I have a question for kermodean,I would like to know what he
thinks about brosnan?Just curious?

Trail of the Pink Panther. Use off-cuts of other Pink Panther movies and add Roger Moore as Turk Thrust II
Years ago I remember watching Smokey & the Bandit 3 and wasn't Burt Reynolds aka The Bandit in that for like 10secs?
this i agree with. lol
bruce lee films were still being made years after he died, Chinese people probably thought we couldnt tell the difference between asians.

I've always liked the idea that James Bond is as much as a code name as 007
LOL!, I was just about to post American Psycho 2, then saw ya beat me to it... DOH!!!. Definitely a prize winner for most ridiculous and audacious franchise spinner. Don't recall Mila Kunis' character being possessed by Bateman, wasn't she the half sister or something like that?.

@DeadCamper Haha absolutely. I remember watching it and thinking, after he died, is this movie almost over? Lol
What about Troll 2? Like Troll 1 but there arent any trolls in it!
Probably some doctor who episodes or The Film Inglouris Barstards in which they rarely appear in the film itself.
Good answer.
Couldn't of put it better myself.
"Being John Malkovich" - have I got the right idea?
Haha, yeah, Steven Seagal doesn't even make it on the hijacked plane, the poor bastard dies in the tube on his way in. But like you said, his name was still all over the movie poster, and if I recall correctly half of it is covered by his face, and the other by Russels.
but its no event listed on IMDB
Do the "Local People" count from League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse?
What with the disabled comments on everything now, as far as youtube goes you had a pretty spectacular quality of commentators. Completely killed any community interaction.

well put i agree 100%
Superman Returns. I'm pretty sure that they replaced Superman with DroopyEmo-man. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he didn't throw one punch the entire movie...
I wish I had imagined the last one he was in. :(
Surely, it's the Pink Panther which only appears in 2 out of 7 movies (not including the remake).
My suggestion: Jurassic Park 3, getting the Spinosaurus instead of our beloved T-Rex. Does that count?
The Invisible Man
28 Weeks Later.
Franchise with the hero not in it? I'm ashamed to mention this one, but s. Darko: A Donnie Darko Tale
what goes on in this town is none of your busin-
Van Wilder 2... without Van Wilder . i know this is not cinema with a capital C but its a good example of "trying to sell a sequel without the main element from the first movie".
That's debatable.
Does Evan Almighty count? Speaking of Jim Carrey, the only sequel franchise he's ever returned to for a sequel is Ace Ventura.
The Assassination of Richard Nixon
Road House 2
The Great Escape II: The Untold Story
The Rage: Carrie 2
I guess Mark isn't going to get that! Too true though.
Halloween 3?
@LucasW180: He's in the whole film, just as a bad guy.
The Evil Dead remake without Ash that's coming out.
Where's Pierce Brosnan?
jaws 3D AND jaws the revenge did not have Roy Scheider as Martin Brody who was the hero because he killed the sharks in jaws and jaws 2

Doctor Who, 2006-2010. Nope, no sign of "The Doctor" there.
Smokey and the Bandit 3!
Doctor Who? Jaws?

Ouch! No love for Brosnan?
Um, every Incredible Hulk/The Crow movie?
Donnie Darko 2:S.Darko.

Smokey And The Bandit 3;)
American Psycho 2? Didn't Mila Kunis get possessed by Patrick Bateman or something ridiculous??
Doctor Who?

Yes, and what a terrible terrible film that was. Smokey IS the bandit!
