I recognized the table and the lighting style, which are kind of iconic. The original interviews are on youtube. He'd sit down to talk to one person for an hour every night, about their life story, their work, and their ideas. Sometimes it did get pretty deep, depending on the guest.

I love this clip ! David can see into Cher and seems like she's never looked inside herself. But as soon as she says "This is too intense for me", he stops and gives her a compassionate look. I love David Lynch. Eccentric? Definitely. But he strikes me as a really good man.
In he beginning it seemed like cher's body language made her seem more self assured than Lynch, but in the end, Lynch ended up coasting through the conversation while Cher became increasingly more uncomfortable, and it ends with Lynch giving that mischievous, sort of nervous look that he gave in the beginning. pretty cool

No, the whole thing was written as a little two minute script. Look at how the "dead-silence" at the beginning matched the same dead-silence a the end. Even down to his very sort of sour-faced expression. The intro matched the cadence. This was not a Sonata, but a Sonatina, as they say in music script.
This went exactly as I would picture a Lynch Cher talk going. I love him with my entire heart. I hope her cloud parts and she’s in the light during the happening soon. 👁️

Fascinating, as is everything Davis Lynch creates, but Cher creates a perfect duality with him (even if this is fantasy). They are both iconoclasts, so you know it is going to get edgy. She could have neutralized that tension when she became visibly uncomfortable and used his statement that neither political party would sit down with him to state, “Well David, we have a common denominator; we’re both rebels,” and use that to discuss those similarities in specific (i.e. his bucking the Hollywood system and her bold no-filter, tell it like it is attitude). That move would have diffused the discomfort and moved the discussion from perceived conflict to communality. Ah, but that would have removed that famed Lynch film tension keep our eyes glued to the screen. David is brilliant. Hitchcock would be proud. Side note: He was perfect as John Ford in Steven Spielberg’s, The Fableman’s, creating a great final film scene.
