I agree! Just returning to your hometown after you left for school and later dropped out it's an awkward situation. Seeing all the changes and also meeting with that 'you' that you were before you left... I think this game represents all that pretty well!

Can we just talk about how the transition from the Snack Falcon Them to Greggs Theme, is Gregg Changing the radio for absolutely no reason other than to play his theme? Like how freakin genius is that??
IF ANYONE'S CURIOUS, HERE IS WHAT MAE DID AND WHY SHE'S KNOWN AS 'KILLER':
Mae gained notoriety among the townsfolk after being involved in a violent episode at her school's softball match. Six years prior to the events of Night in the Woods, Mae experienced a sudden form of dissociation from the real world - which seemed like an acute episode of derealization. She saw objects and people as just meaningless shapes, and not really existing. She felt a deep sadness for everything around her, lamenting that nothing was there for her anymore and that everything was just "stuff in the universe."
The next day at the softball match, a second episode occurred, something "broke inside her" and before she knew it, she was beating Andy Cullen's head in with a bat in front of the entire school.
Following that, most parents told their children to stay away from Mae. By the events of Night in the Woods, most of the kids in town know Mae through the attack, nicknaming her "Killer". The incident put a strain on Mae's relationship with her family. Financially, the Borowski's went deep into debt trying to treat her.
Mae was sent to Dr. Hank for treatment, where he prescribed keeping a journal as a means of keeping her emotions in check. Mae claims it helps her feel grounded with reality and that it works somewhat. She seemed to be doing alright until she left for college.
There, the effects of dissociation seemed to intensify and Mae never made a single friend at college because she was terrified of leaving her room. She was left starving or else downing entire pizzas in one go. She drank cough syrup just to sleep and forget about her living nightmare. Mae was especially terrified of the rusty statue of the founder outside her window: always a mess of shapes watching and pointing down at her. She felt too scared to phone anyone for help.
After three semesters, Mae finally mustered up the courage to leave and return to the safety of home, where things weren't just "dead shapes."

Old video/series, I know. But, as someone who finds themselves unceremoniously back in their hometown after an extended absence, this game really gets me feeling a certain kind of way from the very beginning. The kind of sinking feeling you get when someone asks you about why you're home instead of... out being who you said you'd be. It took only 10 minutes of gameplay for me to realize what's happened. Very, very good tension and atmosphere while still being cozy and nostalgic. In love with the visuals/art style. Sometimes it takes going home to realize it'll never really be home again. Not in the way it was 😞

It is 2021 and watching this now. And I remember this game giving a strong nostalgic feeling of youth and friendship. How our lives branch off after the carefree days of our summers together. The creative art style is reflective of a time stuck townworld and a modern touch. This game will bring you deeper feelings than you thought it would. Great series to watch

Anyone in 2024 rewatching? I was watching mark play the new fnaf game into the pit, and for some reason it reminded me of this game that jack played, and I really really wish there was more games like this and like uh in the style of little mis unfortunate.

That's why I love this series so much. They're still friends, friendly, and carry on with life despite all of that. It's really a very encouraging series. A tale of survivors carrying on and sticking together, which is nice 😊.

I dunno... it can be kind of relaxing. Especially if you have been away from home for a while. I for one find it relaxing because it reminds me that I'm home, safe in bed, in a place where people know me, and where I know them. But that's just me. I can see why it can be awful when you are trying to sleep.

If you want Mae's dad to move the boxes in the crawl space, just talk to him each night before you go to bed. Talk through all the dialogue until Mae mentions it. And keep looking at the book case cause it has something important. There's A LOT of hidden things throughout the game, so keep your eyes peeled for anything. But I know you mostly just stick to the story with your play throughs cause if you did all the secret things it would take too long. Just thought you should know.
Also whenever you hear scribbling that's Mae drawing a doodle in her book if you want to see that too. I would say more but I don't want to spoil anything, so I hope this helps *gives a thumbs up* This game was SO worth the money! I love it so far!

Edit: Returned again. I went ahead and bought the game a couple weeks ago. I played the entire thing through, for 3 days. I felt so many emotions. This game really is just so cozy.
I... had a traumatic night last night, and, tried playing the game again even though it's a worknight because I really just couldn't process the emotions. Needed something comfortable and calming. Started to fall asleep but kept waking, so I decided to put this on instead. Didn't sleep well, but it did help me get some sleep. Always helps me sleep. Thank you so much Jack. Nothing soothes the soul like this playthrough for some reason. It must sound so daft, like obsession or something, but it just feels like a weighted blanket for the weary mind.
Edit: Returning once again 6 months later during one of those rough patches. It's like a pillow of comfort when everything in the world feels jagged and empty. Usually I listen to help me sleep every night, but now it's helping me sleep and also get through my work day. It's a really bad one this time. I've never SEEN the world in shapes before like Mae does, but I get it. The emptiness of it all. The absolute... why bother. The disconnect from reality. Everything feels pointless. Just shapes. Just. Shapes.
I have returned to this series so many times over the last 3 years to help me sleep when my anxiety and insomnia is too high to be able to. It is so relaxing for me, and having grown up in a small town it is so nostalgic for me. Well. I am stuck back in that small town again. And I just got fired from a job. It sounds dumb but I feel so shitty right now. And as I lay here trying to sleep, I just wanted to say thank you again Jack. For being you. Because my mind won't shut up, so I find myself back at this playthrough again for comfort and help sleeping. Your videos have helped me through many bad days and nights. Given me so many smiles and laughs. So much comfort. I have sensory issues too, but your voice scratches a part of my brain that not everyone's will. So I am able to listen for extended periods and not hate it. I swear and promise this is a compliment. On top of that your commentary is so funny and engaging. Your thoughts are unique and silly and also deep and I appreciate listening to your stream of thoughts while you play, or even on your meme times and other videos. You are so strong too, overcoming the things you have and valuing your own mental health. You are an inspiration, so thank you.

God, I adore night in the woods. It brings me some weird nice nostalgia of fall. Back to school with all the fall leaves and the color palette of the game. Like it takes me back to my freshman year of high school (Even though it was like in 2016/2017) Like just simpler times.
