I'm 19 in spain. The only car I've spend time in is a Kia Ceed, and it does give a lot of confidence, even in the wet despite being FWD. It isn't no lexus or mercedes, but my friends drive 10+ year old economy cars so in comparison it isn't bad.

You guys nailed it on a few points. The Kia / Hyundai buying experience blows. It's the worst I've ever experienced. But the cars aren't bad and seem to be getting better by the year. And Jack often does refer to his 'bigness'. Mid-western winters? A hellscape, for sure! I could see the car rusting away on the lift.
I know styling is subjective but when kia came out with the next generation on Optima in 2011, that styling is what got me into the brand in the first place. I loved it.
I fell in love with the Tiger Nose grille and the electronics. I have a 2nd gen Kia Soul and I've had zero problems so far. The driving dynamics remind me of a Ford Focus.
Who is hating on this video with thumbs down...If you don't like the car I get it, but do complain to KIA. Mr Goose and Singapore's job on the reviews and quality is superb.
I own this 2021 k5 1.6L with AWD. Though, it doesn't snow in southern Florida, there are torrential rains. This variant of the K5 suits me fine with plenty of peppiness for city driving. I thought one of the reviewers greatly diminished the aesthetics of the interior focusing on some of the hard touch plastic areas. I would have liked a full 10" digital gauge cluster found in the Stinger and the inclusion of a Bose sound system. The feedback to steering could be better. Frequent comparisons were made to Honda & Toyota. My second car is a 2021 Honda Accord Sport 2.0T, which I love!
So true! But these guys like many reviewers see all kinds of cars, even super high end luxury or sports cars so it’s hard to lower your standards when you go back to reviewing a normal mainstream midsize sedan
Same here on both points. I'm not wealthy, so I have never driven any high priced German cars. Compared to the 3 Camrys I've owned, the K5 kills them in the Fun to Drive element.
I was going to say that, as a Sonata owner, I'm excited for this video. I'm going to correct myself, I am interested in this. I will say that as someone from Canada, I've had an excellent Hyundai experience at the dealership.
I own a 2019 Fortw and the buying experience had no issues at all for so far as well as service. I think all branda have bad dealerships, it depends on thw mindset and style of each dealership management.
I work at a Kia dealership and I wouldn't touch these with a 20ft pole. I've seen a dozen trans replacement jobs (done under warranty ofc) performed in the past 5 weeks alone. Wait until they figure out the dct issues at least
Nissan gets bashed for their CVT issues, but KIA gets a free ride. Look at KIA's recent recall of 295,000 vehicles due to engine fire risks. They have tons of recalls.
like i say with every kia/hyundai turbo engine....prepaire to need a new engine every 40-60,000kms, they do not know how to make a good 4 cyl turbo engine. they all suffer from the same issue and that is lack of lubrication on the bottom end wich causes crank bearings to burn up and melt....as a cert hyundai tech i have replaced in the last few month probly 50-100 engines. When anyone asks me or says there buying a turbo hyundai or kia i would do my best to push them away and say if they MUST get a kia or hyundai get the v6.....
Thanks for the information yes a straight V6 is nicer I'm a Toyota Lexus lover but I want to see Kia and Hyundai raise the bar they are making some nice looking units
Those turbo engines must be problems eh. My friends 2014 hyundai Santa fe just stopped working and with less than 200k km or just over 120k miles. She is driving a rental as we speak and also almost certain to get a toyota corolla. Never thought I would even say this.

I was a fan of the old Optima, it's FWD, torque steering, presence was like a lower hp take on my trusty Impala. And that big ol' girl is fantastic in winter. The weight at the front gives it traction to deal with snow, and it holds firm pulling around bends and corners on the mountain roads in the Rockies. She will spin the tires a lot from a stop, but going easy on the throttle gets it going, and then it's all good. The Optima/K5/new Sonata are good vehicles, I just wonder how they fair going up and down those mountain roads that the Chevy eats like candy.
Hey Jack you commented that the Kia buying experience was somehow "less than" I would disagree as I have had a couple of kia's and found the buying and service experience to be excellent.
KIA’s trim levels don’t match the options and it makes absolutely no sense. However, most cars, including luxury brands have plastic on the lower part of the doors.
Sadly its true.... why do you think kia offers 10 year warranty for? Their turbo engines are not that great and there was one hyundai mechanic on this threads who tells people to get the v6 version of those instead of 4 cylinder.
@@alvinsimba734 their turbo engines are theta now Alvin. These are new engines in most of Kia’s lineup and the Hyundai lineup. The new sonata, k5, Sorento, and Santa Fe have the new smartstream engine which are dual injection which means direct and port injection. These engines just came out so time will tell, but now that it’s dual injection, it’s much more reliable.
OK Savage - 4 cyl Kias - K5 GT-line AWD, K5 GT, or Stinger GT-line (4 cyl turbo). Which one do you choose as a daily driver? Why are manufacturers so reluctant to put an LSD in a FWD family sedan when they already have one in the parts bin? (Hyundai Veloster N (LSD) into Sonata N-line, Civic R LSD into Accord 2.0T... etc.)
I've driven driven an Accord Touring and K4 AWD (EX). Yes the interior is a little bit more "upscale" in the Accord, but I honestly still think it feels cheap. K5, you can tell it cut corners in some places to give you the AWD and heated windshield, but I'm not going to get hung up about cheaper plastic lower door cards imo
I thought you guys were too critical of this Kia K-5! This is a car that majority of people in the world can afford. For the price this car is very nice.
The camrys trying ti go upmarket? Those things feel terrible in the interior, I thought it was just reliability that kept buyers incentivezed to go towards a camry?
They focused on a couple of places only. Nobody spends their time examining the inside of the glove compartment. On the whole the interior looks all right. The Camry interior is styled worse, though may be made of slightly better plastics in some areas.
@@markmiller3279 I get your point, but I just think the camry is noticeably cust cutting its plastics and has some poor interior design especially with its swooping infotainment screen which juts into the passengers knees and the small door-pads that definitely aren't comfort inspired. I like the looks of it but, like the Sonata, I don’t think these designs will age particularly well. But for now, it looks good and the interior looks premium (not upscale). I love the red leather. Great review guys!!
I agree on the K5, it already feels pretty "meh" to be honest. The Sonata seems to be aging well enough though, new Audi and Mercedes facelifts almost seem to be going the same way. People seem to like the K5 way more, or at launch they did, but I don't even recognize them on the road. When I see a Sonata I'm like "Oh! A new Sonata!" which is WEIRD for such a cheap car. Lol.
literally on fire that is why there is a lawsuit against them for the 4 cyl turbo engines blowing up every 40-80,000kms and they knowingly knew about it and refuse to fix the issue. instead they just give u a longer warranty.

Rented the K5 LS for 2 weeks. Car is beautiful, and fun to drive. Excellent gas mileage.
I've had 3 kias, one being a Optima turbo, it was unbelievable
As in you you couldn’t believe how much of a shitbox it was?
I'd take this, Sonata, & Mazda over the other competitors. Hyundai/Kia is nailing it!!
The 'big engine' GT (read, no 'line' after), is just now being shipped to dealers. It's been on preorder before that. I think only one reviewer on YT, have gotten within 5 feet of one, let alone test drive it on an extended basis. Would be interesting to see SG's take on it
Isn't it still FWD though?
Simplicity, reliability, value for money !!! 💥🏆💥
We need that K5 in Europe !!! 👍
Last time I was this early SavageGeese and Turbowski were still learning how to drive gocarts at the local track.

I bought the AWD K5 last month in white. What a great car for 28k!
Goose, just want to say thanks for all you bring to the RUclips car community! If it wasn’t for you, I would have not thought to test drive and buy my Mazda3 GT that I bought back in 2018. It’s treated me very well for nearly 40k miles now. Been a sub since late 2017 and I love this channel!
I'm 19 in spain. The only car I've spend time in is a Kia Ceed, and it does give a lot of confidence, even in the wet despite being FWD. It isn't no lexus or mercedes, but my friends drive 10+ year old economy cars so in comparison it isn't bad.
Man, if you could get AWD on the GT or the DCT on the GT-Line it would be perfect.
I think the latter would be the far more likely and value optimizing option.
I was pissed off I couldn't get the GT-Line with the Bose audio system however I was extremely pleased with the stock system! It was fantastic. A little research and I found it's really easy to take the door panel off and install new speakers. Everything is plug and play, 4 screws. Stupid easy. Anyone can do it. I'll be throwing in some Alpines or JBL to the front and rear doors.
Handling > Acceleration IMO. There's this obsession with straight line acceleration but in terms of joy of driving, handling is far more important.
Go drive a Miata, pansie

Dear Kia:
Please make the high end audio available on the GT-line, change the hideous tail lights, and remove the chrome window trim.
Thank you.
Just get the Camry
You guys nailed it on a few points. The Kia / Hyundai buying experience blows. It's the worst I've ever experienced. But the cars aren't bad and seem to be getting better by the year. And Jack often does refer to his 'bigness'. Mid-western winters? A hellscape, for sure! I could see the car rusting away on the lift.
My cousin had the first generation Optima, it was not bad. He enjoyed it for many years.
"Supposably"? Get it together, Jack. We love ya
Sbubbosbably
It’s called addicting, tremendous journaling.
KIA seems to be taking styling cues from Peugeot (exterior wise), and I like it.
"Mark and I have already done a long video on the K5 2.5...." Where is this video?
I know styling is subjective but when kia came out with the next generation on Optima in 2011, that styling is what got me into the brand in the first place. I loved it.
I fell in love with the Tiger Nose grille and the electronics. I have a 2nd gen Kia Soul and I've had zero problems so far. The driving dynamics remind me of a Ford Focus.
This car looks great. I see a lot of Lincoln MKZ in it's shape
Who is hating on this video with thumbs down...If you don't like the car I get it, but do complain to KIA. Mr Goose and Singapore's job on the reviews and quality is superb.
I like how the Korean guy is presenting the Kia 👍🏻
I own the AWD K5 GT Line and it’s far from a “shit box”. Easily the best car I’ve owned.
No space helmet premium PPE? I thought you guys mean business...
I just called the Illinois snitch line for them not social distancing and wearing masks
I own a 2019 Fortw and the buying experience had no issues at all for so far as well as service.
I think all branda have bad dealerships, it depends on thw mindset and style of each dealership management.
Available AWD in mid-size sedans may be how these things survive until people realize they don't really need an SUV and that physics still exists.
Did I hear supposably when the word you intended to use was supposedly? oh no alert the press! I love you videos! great team work between you two!
I have this car! It’s awesome!
Jack is a treasure. Amazing deadpan delivery.
Dude i really liked this review. Let's grow this channel
Best car review channel.
@@alvinsimba734 on my 2007 Avalon Limited it's at 218,000 miles drives like it's 20,000 miles that Japanese 3.5 L is a well-put-together unit except I got screwed by a Toyota franchise went in for oil change came back out motor mounts and transmission mounts or loosing
My 1.6T in my 14sx is going strong at 150k soooooo....
You have replaced 50 - 100 of these engines, that's a large discrepancy dude, not great at counting are you?
I was a fan of the old Optima, it's FWD, torque steering, presence was like a lower hp take on my trusty Impala. And that big ol' girl is fantastic in winter. The weight at the front gives it traction to deal with snow, and it holds firm pulling around bends and corners on the mountain roads in the Rockies. She will spin the tires a lot from a stop, but going easy on the throttle gets it going, and then it's all good.
The Optima/K5/new Sonata are good vehicles, I just wonder how they fair going up and down those mountain roads that the Chevy eats like candy.
Supposedly, not supposeably.
Somebody should ax them to edit that.
It surprises me how common this error is.
Irregardless, this review was exspecially good. I won’t soon take them for granite, as this is clearly the heighth of the form.
@@upshifter5316 It WAS exspecially good, but I wouldn't put them on a pedal stool.

Kia is KILLING it. I just bought a 2021 Telluride SX Prestige. Amazing vehicle.
I like to fly down the highway in my lowered 2015 IS350 thumping the latest K pop so I subscribed.
Hey Jack you commented that the Kia buying experience was somehow "less than" I would disagree as I have had a couple of kia's and found the buying and service experience to be excellent.
The poverty spec?! Geez so savage.
-geese
So geese.
KIA’s trim levels don’t match the options and it makes absolutely no sense. However, most cars, including luxury brands have plastic on the lower part of the doors.
I subscribed - when can I expect my free BendPak lift to arrive?
Jeez, Kia is absolutely nailing design.
"Kia's poverty system"
lol
Sadly its true.... why do you think kia offers 10 year warranty for? Their turbo engines are not that great and there was one hyundai mechanic on this threads who tells people to get the v6 version of those instead of 4 cylinder.
@@alvinsimba734 no the sound system.
@@alvinsimba734 it’s not true.
The Rio.
(Hyundai Veloster N (LSD) into Sonata N-line, Civic R LSD into Accord 2.0T... etc.)
2:51 - they actually played off the part where mark said that about jack in the K5 FWD review 5 months ago 😂
You guys know exactly what I care about in a car review, well done.
We just bought one a couple weeks ago and we love it!
"Sentient Lemur" wins the internet! 🤣
I thought you guys were too critical of this Kia K-5! This is a car that majority of people in the world can afford. For the price this car is very nice.
For 32k? Yeah…no…I owned a Kia Optima never again 👎🏽.
The camrys trying ti go upmarket? Those things feel terrible in the interior, I thought it was just reliability that kept buyers incentivezed to go towards a camry?
Kia have good reliability, definitely better than any American car.
I was shocked when I went into a new camry since I always loved the comfort of my 20 year old camry, and the new one seemed terrible except for some nicely supportive seats and a smooth as hell ridem
@@jackfishcampbell6745 Kia/Hyundai have definitely made progress, but they are still a bit behind Toyota. They still get some random stupid issues (coil packs, paint), but they are hungry for market and constantly improving and fixing the issues they have
I agree with these guys! I have the same car, but in pearl white and Black... and I love it!
My dad explained something to me about front wheel drive cars years ago. He doesn't recommend hard acceleration when the wheels are fully turned because it's not good for the axle joints. (From a dead stop)
He’s not wrong that there’s increased wear but you must be pushing a lot of power for that to do any real damage.
Lol.
They absolutely nailed these. Kia and Hyundai are on fire right now.
literally on fire that is why there is a lawsuit against them for the 4 cyl turbo engines blowing up every 40-80,000kms and they knowingly knew about it and refuse to fix the issue. instead they just give u a longer warranty.
@@Scypher0th interesting. Guess it’s a bit of a gamble but as long as it’s under warranty I’d probably still take the chance.
@@Scypher0th lol, that was the old theta II engines that were catching on fire. The k5 and sonata now have smartstream engines. They are direct/port injection like Toyota does. It is much more reliable and now reports of issues with them so far.
