I did this job on my 01 Grand Prix 10 years ago and again last week. It was burning coolant and had a minor oil leak. While taking it apart, I also discovered that the plenum coolant passages had partially melted. The Feldpro metal LIM gaskets I installed 10 year ago were also starting to fail...gaps in the rubber seals. Nice video...but I think I could do this in my sleep now.
2008 Buick Allure Cx 3.8 v6 series 3.. as soon as I removed my lower intake manifold the back left coolant channel was fully blocked up and caked off.. took out my shot vac and pick tool and had at er. With only 75,850km on it 😮 pretty sure the previous owner did not have the recommended coolant put in the engine.. Just shy of 79,000km now and I have her running beautiful... the only thing I wish I could have gotten my hands on which I was unable to as of right now would be the plastic runner insert that rests beneath my cast aluminum upper intake manifold. One of the 6 runs got a little warped however I just Jerry rigged it.. as for the one plastic coolant elbow resting in the lower intake manifold it got slightly brittle and broke on removal where the oring attached to the lower intake manifold, I just filed it down a bit took some of my left over rtv and gooped up the circumference of the end I filed down seeing as there was no longer a o ring seal and she's been holding up 5 months strong... great job man.. 👏
@PeterMichael-qx8ir (can't ya just buy another lower intake manifold ), or is this a special order for this? It would probably take a week lol nevermind lol.
+1 on the aluminum elbows I just took the plastic ones and put metal ones on mine 3.8. I'm interested in putting that high rise intake on my 3.8 firebird and wondering if it will fit up the same way
No rear valve cover gasket, no plugs and wires replaced, no egr tube in upper manifold, no pcv valve, no Preston green coolant, fresh water flush the entire coolant system with heater core flush too, and fill and new thermostat. But the parts you have done seemed like you were very thorough. All and all not too bad. Enjoyed your work
Don't forget, there is a TSB (technical service bulletin) on the upper intake. They warp and get brittle allowing leaks and you are supposed to replace it per the TSB.
I have the same car but my engine oil is leaking from the passenger side by where the power steering pump is would you happen to know anything about that
Did you ever find a shop or fix it youreself I’m having the same issue smoking from the back ,bogs out at 2/3 thousand rpm /can’t just gas it at a stop light or stop sign or it the car dies and I’ll have to reset the car ,I have oil all around the supercharger and intake ,but the supercharger still works particularly once the boging stops ,
Just did it on my 2000 park ave last weekend. Parts were about $200 and it took me around 3-4 hours doing a very thorough job and cleaning everything in a parts cleaner. Most shops charge $1500-$2000 from what I have seen from others online. Would definitely recommend doing it yourself there is a ton of videos on how to do it
I got a quote from my local mechanic for a 99 lesabre and it was just over $1000CAD/$750USD to do both upper and lower intake manifold. Currently saving for this repair before winter hits. I may also replace the entire upper intake as these have a known issue with the EGR tube melting and newer intakes from Dorman put a metal tube instead of plastic there.
You said the oil was coming through the lower intake bolts. That makes sense. But you did'nt cover how you sealed those bolts!? Would need a thread sealer on those.
When that dexcool Sits for a long time it eventually turns acidic and eats away at the gaskets.. keep up on your flushes and if your diving into your engine it may be worth digging in further than just removing your lower intake manifold as I've seen on other complete engine tear down videos that the coolant holes on the block gaskets that rest between the cylinder heads and the valves tend to get filled in with guck and debris... and thus should be replaced as well...
Wow. You make it look easy. Lol. Great job. Wish you were my mechanic. Question. I have a 2003 chevy impala. I have a throttle problem i think its high idel around 3000 rpm cold and cylinder pops at high gear. Ive replaced every sensor on that throttle body. Im lost. Can you help? 🇺🇸👍😎

@craigoutdoors30 I would replace any plastic plenum on a 3800 though if pulling it.
@jtbuilds9176 really..j got a 2000 regal with the same pooling of oil..not this bad yet..what does the TSB do? And a TSB after this long? Ty
You forgot the rear valve cover gasket, 12:23 bro? Oops....

It doesn't appear that you did both valve covers just the one in front! ?
Mine has 70k & just not finding out it needs this to be done to it.

I did it perfectly with proper specs and I have coolant still pooling in those spots
I’m sorry to hear that. That sucks
