It makes angry and sad that at 50 I’m just figuring out from a pop up ad on the internet that I have this condition, as I can see it in the shape of all the women in my family. Just this week I asked my GP to refer me to someone that could treat lipedema.. she seemed skeptical and said she “could” refer me to a physical therapist that could evaluate me for limphoedema. Had I known what to look for I would have looked in the mirror at age 21 and known I have lipoedema legs. I don’t understand how can there be so many med school graduates with so little knowledge of women’s health.
I agree with you. I was recently diagnosed from a physical therapist with training in vascular issues. I currently see a vascular specialist at Cleveland clinic because many doctors didn’t know what was wrong with me
My mom had these ugly bags under her knees which drove me crazy but didn't seem to bother her, but they didn't make sense as to why they were there. She would always say she had legs like her granny. I prayed that I wouldn't have "four knees" BUT at puberty (of all times) I noticed these lumps forming, no pain, no nothing really but no matter how small I got they lived on!! I also had a huge lump on my hips, the right side was much bigger and deformed moreso than the left. I had liposuction to get rid of both but the doctor never mentioned what they were (long story won't go into it). Now following you, I should have had liposuction on these 2 extra knees. I feel so ugly with them. Now, within the past 5-6 years, I have developed a "puff" above my right wrist. No one notices it until I show them but it's so depressing. Knowing this is heredity is even more disheartening... The good thing is that there's no pain, just lumps that have no sensation.
