I built a nearly identical keyboard back in june, using my holy pandas made from trash pandas and halo trues, and using a poly carb plate instead of brass. I've been loving this keyboard since.
Ah man now is the point that I'm really getting into custom boards and I'm glad to have a well laid out video on one from one of my favorite reviewers 😄😄
So I have recently joined the gb's for the holy pandas and the modern dolch light keycaps, and now I know exactly what case and pcb I'm getting to complete the keyboard. Thanks BT, it's like your videos are always on point with what I'm looking for!
This is a great video! I'm interested in building my own and you described the initial feelings perfectly- intimidating, worried about cost, etc Feeling more comfortable around the idea of making my own now. :D Yours looks and sounds awesome!
I actually waited for something like this to do see and maybe do it myself, but the costs to import everything to germany is so expensive 😂.Like personally i dont like to spend so much on "just a keyboard" lol.Happy too see you with your new kb,have a lot of fun with it.Could you do a video on your kbs in a few months, where you break down durability of keycaps, feels etc? Nice editing and color grading btw. Peace out!👌🔥
Hey BT, thanks for making this video. I just got into the custom mech keyboard community for about a few weeks and it goes down like a rabbit hole. This 7 mins of essentials helps me a lot!
I put in my order for the Massrop ALT, barebones. Still deciding which switches to throw on. After watching this, I def gotta lube them all up too. Dammit BT~ hahaha
DUDE - I just started my build yesterday. SAME case, SAME PCB, SAME Stabs, different switches. I went with lubed Zealios 67g. Only problem. My PCB came with 4 LED's not coming on when plugged into power. Working with 1UP on a fix. Hopefully flashing the firmware tonight gets it working properly!
So this was the video that taught me how to build keyboards. In a span of six months I have learned a lot. I have built a Tofu keyboard and I have a Space65 Cybervoyager on the way. It’s 2 am and I was just watching random videos and I came to this video. Now that I am quite knowledgeable of keyboards I am confused... why did this man lube linear switches with 3203...
Hey BT great video, you basically condensed hours of random RUclips videos into 7 min!! ABOUT THE LEMON SWITCH - I’m pretty sure the switches where working correctly. With my hotswap boards some of the plastic can scrap off when inserting the switches, as well as poor mounting because PCB mounts don’t sit flush to the PCB. With that said re inserting switches should solve the problem, as you did. Just thought I’d shoot that out there cause the above happens to me when swapping switches
You uploaded this at the perfect time I was about to purchase the parts and you saved me on the case was about to buy a aluminum case, but this one just stunning! Any key cap recommendations that are up to $60? wish i can get those massdrop caps :(
Depends on if you are going to line them or not, if you'll live, than it is definitely absolutely worth it. But if you are just going to use stock stabs, than it basically doesnt matter/won't make a difference
One thing to note: stabilizers are easily the hardest part of building a keyboard, and they aren't hard per say, just time consuming and maybe a bit finicky your first time. Getting the right amount of lube can be a little tough until you put the board together and feel which ones are right and which ones aren't. (I haven't lubed switches yet, that's a slippery slope of time sinks). I'll add is that you can get foam to fill the space between your pcb and the case, also between the pcb and the plate if you want to get fancy, or you can buy some pre-cut foam from Mkultra. Helps fill out the sound of your keyboard and can get rid of plate ping if you encounter it. If you really want to get fancy on a case mount keyboard you can buy some tiny 1mm orings to put between the case stands and the pcb to make a sorta diy gasket mount.
0:39 I think it's because we say "building" which makes it sound harder than it is. With these kits it's just assembly like legos so it's childs play really. A screw goes in pre screwed holes with all measurements done for you and everything fits neatly together. It's not like you have to machine your own parts or design your specific switch or PCB in CAD or circuit maker.
Looks great! Didn't want to go all in with a solder build? Also gateron inks over your zeal switches. Oh no haha just paid a butt load for my KBD75V2 build for some zeal v2s!

@@BTaesthetics Lol it came from personal experience. just posted a pic of my new Kira in the Discord
My k95 spacebar is great. I got a HyperX Alloy Elite RGB at the same time to return one and the HyperX board had a really rattly spacebar :(
Anyone know a keyboard company that doesn’t have rattly stabilizers other than razer?
I’m glad to see you get into custom keyboards!
I love seeing new people join the comm.

Phantasm does the 1 UP PCB have light blue /cyan rgb or somewhere you can customise it to that colour £?

I’ve actually watched this video like 20 times and bought the exact build, thanks for the video!!
never really cared for a sound test till this one. that was sweet music to my ears, so beautifully smooth

So I have recently joined the gb's for the holy pandas and the modern dolch light keycaps, and now I know exactly what case and pcb I'm getting to complete the keyboard. Thanks BT, it's like your videos are always on point with what I'm looking for!
Good job. Tofu is a classic first time builder choice. What's next, keycult?
I mean, at least he wouldnt have to buy any other keebs afterwards ever again

Bruh this build is so clean. I might need to copy it bc the keycaps and the cable and the rgb makes everything look so nice!
Austin Froelich those caps have been out of stock for a few months
kealoha mahone damn rlly?
Austin Froelich ya they gb closed in March on drop . But typically drop will re-run things if they get enough requests

mikeisu no I ended up just buying a gk64 but changed the switches and caps
I have had a similar build coming close to a year now. Everything is the same I just have the KBDFans T1. Lubed and band-aided for the win!
Love it...that frosted case is so nice
its sick af

Love the keyboard! Just wondering did you have to dremel the center to fit with the Tofu 60 or did it fit perfectly as is?
I don’t care what anyone says. The part that BT does after the sound test is the funniest/best part of the video 😂😂
welcome to the custom mechanical keyboard gang

You should try the kailh box reds/blacks
They’re my favorite switch I’ve tested so far
We need a review on this! Dope vid
cool song Brandon!

Depends on if you are going to line them or not, if you'll live, than it is definitely absolutely worth it. But if you are just going to use stock stabs, than it basically doesnt matter/won't make a difference
Sentraq acrylic case is the best one.

I have heard that gateron black are heavy. I would recommend going with reds maybe. Or maybe thise yellows. 65-67 bottom out switches are the best XD
