In my first job, I was surrounded by several devout Catholics for the first time in my life; the way the Holy Spirit acted through them and they lived their lives left a mark on me that eventually led me to be received into the Catholic Church this Easter.

Yep, lots of people tend to forget that our witnessing is very powerful. Apologetics, knowledge and book smarts only go so far. A lot of people aren't sold by facts necessarily.
Lots of atheists will flat out say, "If God showed up before me, I still wouldn't worship". It then isn't a problem with belief, but what's in their heart that's blocking them.
This is probably just telling you to pray and be humble.

Back when I listened to Trent Horn he made a good video on this quote and how it is falsely attributed to St. Francis and how it is misguiding advice. Really recommend the video since it explores the half-truth of the statement which I had been fond of for a while
